I had one of these. The transducer fit the recess in my kayak hull perfectly for a no-drill semi-permanent installation. It worked OK -- perfect for depth, good for bottom composition, and sort of useful for detecting fish. It uses ordinary AAA batteries, which is very convenient. After a year and a half, it just quit working. Fortunately, my son is going to give me his, because he's moving up to something fancier. I think the finder is well worth having at this price if your needs are simple, which mine are.

Thanks for the review! You’re helping folks like me make informed decisions. I just watched a whole hour long series by another gentleman on here who was explaining how to read some of the more high-end sonar displays.
Essentially, the best systems are time-domain depth-range displays that use multiple colors to indicate the intensity of the sonar return. The high resolution, while requiring a learning curve and experienced operator, offer a wealth of detail about the environment that cannot be represented by an LCD pictogram. Being a radio scanner enthusiast, I liken this choice to that between a handheld radio scanner vs a spectrum analyzer; the former does a lot of the work for you and tells you enough, while the latter requires you to use your brain, but will yield an incredible depth and breadth of information when leveraged properly.
All I’m looking for is a transducer and a 7-segment display to tell me how deep my stuff is going to be when I tip over! That being said this seems like a decent tool for the money. Thanks again.

My wife got me one and I love it for ice fishing. It marks fish, tells me the depth, and if you pour water on it above the ice it will give you a signal without having to drill. Wonderful product and the battery lasted me many trips of multi hour use.

I don’t understand how you youtube fishers get so much fish. I go to multiple places for hours, lakes, creeks, rivers, and try multiple lures and baits... and nothing but the occasional tiny thing the size of my finger.

Season. Time of day. Particular lures require particular technique / speed. So many variables that have to be played with that make a fishermen a fishermen oh and a bit of luck!

It's better than nothing. Good for finding drop offs and other contour changes. That helps. I'd use in my budget kayak set up.

I think you have to divide the depth shown on the screen by 10 (as there are 10 boxes on the right) and then multiply this number by which ever box is highlighted. So top box is 1, bottom box is 10... this will give the depth that the fish are at.

Got a question: have you ever fished for walleye? If so, do you actually NEED a fish finder/sonar?
I mostly fish for Pike but turns out here in Saskatchewan, our university fisheries tend to focus on Walleye for all our Lakes... and frankly, walleye kinda piss me off because of how stupid they are.
I can’t afford to be loosing jigs every other cast from getting hooked on the bottom waiting for them to feel like biting.
Pike? Pike I understand. Apex predatory fish that eat just about anything you offer them.

I have this and used it once maybe twice. The number of times you'll need to move this around is crazy, you won't get any fishing in. It only has a 45° radius and the areas where you're casting, you can't get this out there. Probably only good for dock fishing IMO
They make a wireless version that you put on the line, it looks like a yellow submarine. I have one it works for a simple finder for the money. has the same interface on the screen.
The hand held Tiger edition of fish finders, while everyone else is using game boy or the really rich, game gear.

This looks like a newer version of a Hawkeye fish finder that I bought used off Amazon. Never worked for me. It might have been crapped out s we hen I bought it or user error. IDK.
I got one from Amazon I thought it would help me but I fish in small lakes and it doesn't work as good as I would like it to.
The whole point of telephones, broadcast, youtube etc is that you can communicate with people over large distances WITHOUT SHOUTING!
I have this finder and the instructions say it's not accurate in less than 6 feet. I dont think it was tested properly here. (2-3 feet of water)
would be nice if you could actually see the size difference of the fish it finds but i guess use your best judgement.. bluegill prob not gonna be down 10 feet right

Amazon 34 Amazon store clearance. They sell damaged boxed items. Nothing wrong with it you just have to get use to it. It takes a little working but it’s doable for $34 Received it just in time for the herring run and the stripers underneath
