Hi Mandy, so happy to hear that you adjusted the course to fit your student's needs! Chemistry is a rigorous course indeed, and we're so glad to hear that the video instruction was helpful for you.

Thank you so much! It was hard, but we learned a lot and my son grew in this course. It presented challenges for him, and we saw him really applying himself to pass this course. When he got a passing grade on his exam, he was the happiest kid EVER! He worked so hard and we're really proud of him. We can't wait to start our next Apologia course this fall!

Thank you for being so open about doing open book tests. I loved chemistry but helping a non-science kid isn’t easy. Great video 😊

I have heard that Apologia High school courses are like college level courses with as in-depth as they go.

Masterbooks has Chemistry and you can add their teaching and lab where you can watch it as well. My son did their Biology this year and it was good with the teaching and lab to watch as well.

My 9th grader loves APOLOGIA, she did General science, Creation Science, and will do Biology next year. The content isn’t boring and she actually retained a lot of information. Great Video Mandy ❤

Dr. Wile from Berean has a Chemistry that MANY kiddos love. “Discovering Design With Chemistry”
I have it and Masterbooks. I have not decided which we will use.

We switched from Apologia to Berean Builders. The Chemistry by Berean is fabulous, rigorous, and I highly recommend the optional videos.

@@mandy-maltz Thank you, yes- I know Apologia does. 😊 I was wondering about Berean Builders. After your review, I know my son won’t be able to handle Apologia’s Chemistry without excessive modifications, so I’ll need to find something else. 😬

@@heatheranderson2388 I have found all of the labs on RUclips for Berean Builders. The Self-Paced prerecorded videos for the class do not contain the labs. I do not know if he demonstrates the labs in the online classes or not. I have found all of the labs for chemistry on RUclips, and they are very well done. I can look up the RUclips handle of the family that does them if you would like.

Thank you so much for this review!! Even though my kids are still in elementary grades, I like to start thinking about things early and plan ahead of time because I know how important HS is. Can you show us what one of the labs looks like?? Thank u for being such a blessing for us 😊

Thank you so much for the information. We will be diving into high school material next year and bought the biology course . My question is how often do you do science a week with your son ? What’s a good pace for those who are starting out ? ☀️☀️☀️

My daughter is 7th grade this year and we are planning to do Apologia's General Science next year, but may stretch it out over 18 months or 2 years. I am already checking out high school courses and tossing up between Apologia and Berean Builders. Here in New Zealand students doing science don't do 1 subject per year. They would do biology level 1 one year, then level 2 the next year and level 3 after that. They may be doing both bio and chemistry and even physics at the same time but at the appropriate level. If my daughter decides she wants to focus on the sciences I am thinking of doing at least bio and chemistry at the same time but split the courses up over a couple of years. Just thought I would share in case this is a new idea that helps someone.

Hello Mandy. We've been using Apologia for 4 years now. I purchase for my daughter the Text book on Audible and also Kindle. She listens to the book at the speed she's comfortable with and reads along from her Kindle version as she listens. We also buy the thumb drive as well. We do the labs either while watching the video lab or shortly after. She finds watching the teacher do the video instruction helpful as well. I know it sounds like a lot of redundancy but Apologia highschool science courses are rigorous and I want my daughter to have every chance of success. The notebook is a must have in all the sciences.

Thank you!! Thank you for doing this video. I am wrestling with science choices for my kids, and have been eyeing Apologia. One of my biggest questions is whether the thumb drive is necessary and whether it is worth the cost. Would you say the thumb drive is more essential for different courses? My kids are in middle school, so we would likely start with General science.
