Actually, the first meal looked better than what I usually got on my UA flights: chicken or pasta… but it’s a shame that it didn’t taste good. I have very low expectations for UA’s catering service and crew. What I like most flying with them is the IFE
Pre-Covid, I visit my family in China every other year by flying Singapore Airlines round trip from SFO to HKG (SQ 001 departs: 1:15 PDT arrives: 6:35+1 HKG time) and (SQ 002 departs: 23:30 HKG time arrives: 21:15 PDT).
@@BayAreaTraveler The amazing sunrise as you approach the coast is one upside to UA's timeslot, I had the same beautiful view on my flight with UA. My food experience with UA was also disappointing but surprisingly the catering on my flight from TPE to SEA 6 months later was also not very good.
@@papatango2362 That's false patriotism. Do you think United treat you better because you are an American? They get taxpayer money from the federal government to bail themselves out during Covid and still often give subpar service to passengers.
I personally think that EVA is better when it comes to flying this route. The food is better and the seats are bigger. But there is the fact that EVA is expensive. UAL is great with their Polaris first class. U personally think that it is one of the better first class seats in America. But UAL has a better IFE. UAL also has more availability from America to Taiwan.
I'm going to mainland China and Taiwan this summer. First, I'm flying United Airlines UA 871 (departs: 14:30 PDT arrives: 18:45+1 Taipei time (note: +1 means flight arrives at the destination the day after I departed.)) in economy class from SFO to Taipei on July 22. Then, I'm flying China Eastern Airlines MU 2088 (departs: 18:40 Taipei time arrives: 22:00 Wuhan time) in economy class from Taipei to Wuhan on July 29. Finally, I'm flying United Airlines UA 878 (departs: 22:30 HKG time arrives: 20:30 PDT) in economy class from HKG to SFO on August 10.
So far, I've been to 5 countries including Hong Kong. The 5 countries that I have been to are Canada, Mexico, Hong Kong, Mainland China, and Kenya. Hong Kong and Kenya are the only countries that I've been to that drives on the left.
When I choose my departing flight, I would always pick a flight that departs in the morning on a Saturday. When I choose my returning flight, I would always pick a flight that arrives at night on a Saturday. I like to begin my vacation on a Saturday morning and end my vacation on a Saturday night.
@BayAreaTraveler. Hello. Thanks for your video! will be flying UA to Rome on the B777 my favorite aircraft. Do you think being airborne affects sense of taste? Have you informed UA of your dissatisfaction with their meals?
I believe that taste does change due to the lower cabin pressure. I haven’t informed UA about the taste issue. For the most part, the food on UA has improved over the years. Usually flights originating from San Francisco, the food quality has been pretty good. I think my Taiwan flight was just a one off situation.
I have only flown direct flights to the United States on China Airlines and EVA Air before, and I hope to have the opportunity to try United Airlines. By the way, could I gether to know how to create the route map at 00:21 in the video?
It's really unfortunate United has incorporated the same lackluster catering into their transpacific flight. The food looks really Ugh ! With the two daily flights departing Taipei only a few hours apart, I really wish United would move one of the flights to the evening. Some travelers like myself would prefer an evening departure to have almost an extra day in Taiwan. Hope United Execs are listening !
Thanks for your comment. The food has been okay but for some reason, the catering for this flight was not that great. I think UA does not have an evening departure is because of UA tries to utilize and take advantage of connecting flights. If you land at night, the selection of flights to other destination is less than if the flight landed in the morning which is why a lot of flights from Asia or South Pacific land.
I can’t imagine anyone using this airline by choice, especially to The Orient, where carriers like EVA/JAL/ANA/Korean are ALL far superior to US carriers.
Certainly the Asian carriers are vastly superior to the US airlines in many aspects. However, in general I find them more expensive than UA. The advantage that UA has is its vast Asia and South Pacific network. As a result I use UA the most because I can fly to both Australia and Asia and accumulate frequent flyer miles and gain status.
You're correct that while the Asian carriers are far superior to the US airlines(I'm originally from NY but I've been living and working in Japan for 20 years so I know firsthand), they're also more expensive. If you can afford and justify the cost, certainly choose the likes of EVA, ANA ,JAL, Singapore Airlines, Korean Air. But if the price and things like the airline network are mitigating factors, I can see why you choose UA.
I would rather go to China especially Northern China (e.g. Harbin, Changchun, Shenyang, Xining, Urumqi) in summer because there's better air quality. I mostly stay in Shenzhen. I have some families living in Shenzhen and some families living in Jingzhou. I don't like the winter in Northern China because it's too cold and the air quality there sucks in the winter. I would rather spend winter in Southern China (e.g. Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Sanya, Haikou) because it's not too cold and the air quality is better.
was so dissapointed with United 777 flew from DC to San Diego no IFE, crew were nice with the exception of one who was not so friendly. I prefer Airbus planes....
Don't understand how speeding certain parts make it look "fake". If I show those parts in realtime, my videos would be much too long and my audience would not want to watch my videos. Keeping my videos between 15 to 20 mins is most appropriate for my audience.

I agree UA's IFE is quite good. I feel it's quite underrated.
At 1:40, anybody who's wondering what the kid's wearing, it reads: "My grandpa loves me very much" in Chinese.
Awww......so cute !

I will always pick EVA over United on this route. EVA hands down beat United on seating comfort, onboard food and entertainment options.
I agree EVA is better on amenities, comfort and service. Unfortunately it's more expensive than UA and hence that's why I chose UA as it was cheaper.

I think it’s better to choose the airline from your home country. As an American, I would fly United.

united gives me a very good experience overall
I agree, overall UA is a good experience even despite the meal issues.

Amazing flight very enjoyed your video holiday trip
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video

the route map is a feature in iMovie under Maps & Background

I am curious, how much did you pay to fly United to San Francisco?
Round trip was around $1500, the thing is that it was a multi city trip as the outbound flight was actually to HKG.
Okay I see. Thanks.
I have never been to Taiwan.
It’s a beautiful place to visit and very friendly locals
Why was my response to a comment deleted?
What was your comment? I did not delete any comment. You did comment a few days ago on choosing EVA over UA and that comment is still visible.
No it was a response not to you but another comment about UA. Odd, maybe a quirk of youtube I guess.
United? Good luck

Yeah I too prefer Airbus. UAs 777-200 fleet is really old and showing their age. The FA service can quite often make or break the flight.
