I have tried it both ways and I prefer to do my hot oil treatments before I shampoo. When I did it after shampooing, my hair felt like it had an oily buildup.
Great demonstration of hot oil treatment for washed/ unwashed hair. I wash my hair first then apply hot oil, followed by a deep condition. It works for me😉
I do my hot oil after shampoo then I wash it out with a mixture of shampoo with conditioner (1 part shampoo 2 part conditioner) followed by deep conditioning treatment with good results
When I was relaxed, I would shampoo, condition and then apply the hot oil treatment. Rinse and wrap my hair. When I do a hot oil treatment, these days, I do it the same way. Shampoo, condition, hot oil treatment, rinse (plus a butter to seal). It pretty much just replaces the "O" in the LOB method, for me. Thanks for sharing your experience with us! I enjoyed the video, as always.
Oh! I want to ask you a question about a product I purchased today. Do you have experience with collagen powder supplements? I purchased some, for my skin, which has been very dry and flaky, but the container says it is for skin, nails, hair, joints and bones. It has 300 mcg of biotin in it, as well.
I have been reading up on collagen (probably should have researched, beforehand, as I usually do), but it is, in fact, a protein. I just wanted to share that, in case anyone else was curious.
I follow Naturaliciois suggestion of shampooing first then to save time do your conditioner & hot oil treatment at the same time. Put the conditioner first then apply the oil & use some type of indirect heat. I love your videos as always?💖💖
Very interesting. I’m glad you had good results with the hot oil treatment after shampooing. When I did that, my hair was weighed down. I do hot oil treatments before shampooing now.
Your hair is more shrunken when u did the hot oil treatment after shampoo. I prefer to do it before shampoo cos I find it easier and my hair gets oil build up very easily. Thanks for the video
Girl I subscribed as soon as you said let's be confused together 😂 I'm currently doing hot oil before shampoo but will try after next time bc my hair is so dry right now I feel like it could help
Before shampooing...and I usually just mix whatever oils I have available ( almond, coconut, olive, moringa, hemp, etc). If I do it after I shampoo, I finds that it leaves my hair feeling to heavy and greasy and that my deep conditioner doesn't work as well.🤔
I am currently transitioning I find that doing hot oil treatments before I shampoo works best because it helps not leaving an oily coat plus I’m low porosity as well. I will continue to use the hot oil as a prepoo also I leave it in overnight with a plastic cap. It helps keeps my hair moisturize and after the process I add my leave in conditioner to help seal in everything
I have never done a hot oil treatment on my hair, I have a relaxer, don’t remember ever having the salon do one on my hair either....hmmm! I’ve always wanted to do a hot oil treatment because I hear so much positive things about doing one. Now that I’m in my late 40’s I notice how my hair is thinning , so I’m definitely gonna try. I also plan on doing my daughters as well, she is natural and her hair is short and extremely dry....your video gave some great Tips.
When I worked in a salon, we did hot oil treatments after shampoo & w/ deep conditioner under dryer for 15 min. Then just rinse out. We did that w/ relaxed hair though! So is it the same w/ natural hair? That’s the question!
I think the 2nd one was most effective. I say this because your hair seemed more shrunken which means it accepted more water/moisture into it and that's the goal with us low porosity girls. Either way though, your hair looked amazing!
Hello ma'am, thanks for making this video, I really appreciate your sense of humour. I do the hot oil treatment, been doing it for sometime now and it's been really helpful for tangles, moisture and knots. I do it before and after shampooing. Before using neem oil cos of its smell, and after shampooing with mixture of different oils. It's really beneficial and I'd recommend it anytime, any day. 💕💕
I am so glad this helps. I want to try Neem oil but that smell😂😂 so I like using products that have a little of it such as Kadima hair oil. The other oils in that hair oil masks the smell well
Hello. So you use to do it both? For me I think it depends on season... because I used to do it before as prepoo in sumer but it sets my hair and now in winter is worst when I do it after shampoo
Of you use treatment after shampoo, make sure you use lighter oils so it wont feel so oily. I love to do mine before shampoo so I can detangle with thicker oils. Everyone's hair is different.
The results when you did it before the shampoo looked more shiny and full and your hair was less shrunken... I normally do my hot oil treatment before my shampoo because I think it works best that way... just wet the hair with warm water to remove some of the product build up before applying the oil
This is exactly what i was wondering. I use hot oil treatments as pre shampoo, but was thinking im just washing the benefit of the oils out🤷🏾♀️might try after shampoo and incorporate it with my deep condition.
Love this! I used to do hot oil treatments but then I stopped using oil in my hair because my scalp and hair is prone to product buildup. Now I started hot oil treatments again because it's winter and my hair was so tangled it needed the extra help. I do it before I shampoo to help with tangles but also because I cannot leave oil residue in my hair or on my scalp. It causes itchiness and irritation for me. But it's definitely something I'm adding to my weekly winter routine
I’m relaxed but I’ve been doing my hot oil treatment after shampooing and just adding it to my deep conditioner, my hair is usually greasy right after but I notice throughout the weak my hair slowly absorbs it and it remains moisturized without me having to add anything to it. I’m I’m gonna try doing it before shampoo just to see what happens

I haven't done a hot oil treatment in years...but when I was doing it..it was in the fall and winter after I shampoo. The follow up with a conditioner. I may go back to that
I’m going to start doing them this winter. I don’t really do them often but I’ve always done them (from what I can remember) before I shampooed... You do make a good point about the products being on our hair so maybe I will try after I shampoo just to see.
Thanks for this! 1. I NEVER knew too this had to be a step? 2. I do wonder though if this is the same with adding oils to one's shampoo or/and to one's Deep Conditioner? 3. What I will also like to know to compare with the two experiments you did is, how big a difference is it WHEN you DONT do the Hot Oil treatment at all? 4. Is Hot Oil treatment the same, in effect, as OIL RINSING? 5. And do you do Oil rinsing? 6. I would love to see these 3 experiments too on your HP daughters hair? I am going to try to do it and see for my HP hair in the coming weeks. Am so HP and dry that I am doing many things to combat quick dryness and reduce Hand-in-Hair syndrome. In the end, it may be an individual thing that each unique hair has to discover. I learnt the step early but did not keep consistent with it in my regimen. I guess I thought adding oil into shampoo or/and into conditioner takes care of it, or DOES IT? WOULD love to know your results, sweet namesake. Mwah and anyone too, that tried all three! Since this is a 2018 video, I will bring this in too to your/our FB page, (though smh I don't know how, our dear Hostesses manages to see and reply to later posts, Bless her.) - DiscoveringNatural - facebook.com/groups/1631183233647662/
Hi, it is not mandatory to do hot oil treatment. You can do if you feel a need to. I only do it in the fall when my hair is acting weird. I have never done oil rinses. This hot oil treatment is not similar to adding oils to shampoo
I tried it before shampoo and my hair felt so dense, to much oily, a mess. I will try after shampoo and see. I'm 3a/3b. Love you from Argentina. (Sorry my English)
Hot oil treatment is great for scalp and hair. It can help with dry scalp and dandruff and can also help with dry hair and help strength and bring shine to hair
For my daughters hair I prefer to do it on freshly washed hair, for my hair on dirty hair, however I tend to do a pre poo and hot oil all at once lol Great video by the way x
Well with my daughter i noticed her hair is so much softer doing it after i shampoo her hair and with my hair when i do a hot oil treatment after i shampoo my hair products don't penetrate my hair strands as well, however doing it before i shampoo i don't have that problem.
This will be my first time doing a hot oil treatment soo I'm learning how to do it i think I'm going to try doing it after just to see how it's going to turn out

A few weeks ago I was reading up on collagen but I didn’t do any testing. I do know people do use it on their hair

Yes Auntie, this natural hair game keeps me so shook. 😫
We are in this together, my dear
I will definitely do it after I shampoo as I want the oil to stay in my hair so it can help with my dryness:)

Most people shampoo before hot oil treatment and then use a hydrating shampoo again lightly after the oil treatment to get rid of the excess oil
Ah this method is different but quite interesting

You do it after washing so when you do the hot oil treatment; you rinse it out instead or washing it out: this keeps the moisture

Is the hair accepting more water a good thing or could that lead to hygral fatigue?
I like to do mine as a prepoo treatment! If I do it after shampoo my hair is greasy and buildup happens a lot fastest.
