Meadowsweet is probably one of the best medicinal plants around,it's nice to see how common this plant is on both sides of the Atlantic ! Taste so much better than willow and is imo more effective !
Hi I grow those plant I have it along the creek now how do you use it for medecine after bloom do you use all the plant & flower how do you do it dry it boil it I wish you can give me the info thank you
One of my life savers. I make the cordial to last me all year. 10 years now. As I have heart failure. Makes sure you just use the flower heads. The green parts have a greater density of the acid but also contain other phyto chemicals that have strong unwanted effects.. Thus keep it with just the flowers . I have stuff made from the plant that will ..well you dont want to know lol. Lets just say morphine isnt strong by comparison.
Can you tell me how you make the cordial? I have noted to use flowers only. I’m hoping to replace some fairly heavy duty pain meds with it and until reading your comment I really didn’t think that was possible. I thought maybe it could replace the anti inflammatory, but thought I would be stuck on the other one forever. I like the idea of cordial too. Tinctures are all well and good but I really don’t like the taste of alcohol so would rather avoid that for something I’ll need to take daily.
I would make a big batch....use some and then the rest freeze. Then that saved wont go alcoholic. (as is its want).Enought for 4 weeks at a time would be ideal as long as it is always in the fridge.
@@Knobbynomates yes a big batch would be a good idea. How do you make it though? What do you use to extract the medicinal properties? Just water? Sugar?
@@Knobbynomates oh wait. I think the term cordial has confused me. Here in Australia it’s what we call a flavoured drink concentrate for kids. Generally full of sugar, but certainly no alcohol! I think it’s pretty much like Kool Aid except it’s a liquid rather than a powder. So I thought you meant you were doing something alcohol free that’s different to the standard. I just googled and I see that a herbal cordial is very much a standard thing!
@@moniquem783 A cordial is just sugar water and flavouring. But you see in the natural world where nature dictates what happens, meadowsweet like lots of other plants contains yeast. And when you have yeast that will turn the sugar content into alcohol over time. Thus that's why I said it needs to be frozen....that prevents that from happening. Thus it will not go alcoholic if it's kept in the fridge for 4 weeks or so and that's what I explained!. That's why I also suggested that the sugar should be reduced by 75% in meadowsweet cordial. Thus keeping it from turning. If you had serious issues....in the body then you might well need the cordial to turn to wine.. That's also why I said depends on your health issues as to whether it would be any good. That's why I included my email !
I'm also looking for an answer to this? Did you ever find out? I have many woody spirea on my property, planted for Ornamental use, and am curious if they can be used medicinally.
I would love so much to go wherever this man is and study under him. He has so much knowledge.
I believe they are in NC, an hour from Asheville.
Very informative, I salute you my friend for the free teaching
