  • Hi guys!
Here is my reaction to my audition at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama last month. Sorry for the delay in my final set of videos but I've been dealing with a lot recently.

Thanks for this video mate, I got in Central this year and watching this video helped considerably! Carry on doing your thing Joseph! I'm 17, I don't think I understand the pressures of it I think yet, but I'm going to give it my all!
Once again Joseph, thank you for this video, helped me reach my goal! I hope to see more Drama school videos in future.

I always find your videos super informative! Thank you for sharing your experiences! Last year I auditioned to Central in NYC and it was one of the most positive audition experiences I'd ever had. There was a terrific warm up session, great workshop, a Q &A about the school, and group auditions. It also helped that I got unconditional acceptance into the musical theatre course (my 1st choice). Foolishly I declined as I did not feel ready to "cross the pond" and live on my own in London. I took a gap year instead and decided to reauditon. Well...this year's Central audition was by far the WORST I've experienced. There was no workshop at all. No Q&A. The panel was ONE person (there were about 4 last year). Despite the fact that mt was again my first choice, I was NOT made to sing!!!! I used the exact same monologues as last year (I had other ones ready, but since the "one person panel" was completely new to me, I decided to use last year's as they had brought me luck). And...I did not get past 1st round. My audition lasted a grand total of 4 minutes. I received no input from the panel lady. Just said my two monologues and left. I contacted Central asking whether a video audition would be possible since I had not been asked to sing, , but received a reply that mt auditions can only be done in person as they need to hear the auditionee's voice "live".

Hey mate, enjoy your videos a lot. You've seemed a bit down on the last two (which is fine), and though I don't know you just thought I'd say to keep your chin up. Hope everything's good with you and be sure everything will work itself out.

you mentioned them having you do a Shakespeare piece that you never had done prior- so was that memorized or a cold read?

+Becky Meek Yes it was. Even if you only want to do straight acting Central's audition process involves three parts on the initial day. A panel audition, a movement/improv/singing workshop mainly focused towards looking at suitability for the CDT course and a tour. Everybody sings regardless of your course preference.

Is it a necessity to be good or are they just looking for vocal range and basic knowledge of pitch, tone etc.?
