I like how the old guy who collects casings to sell also takes his time to shoot and dosent just waste ammo, one of the only ones not wasting ammo, and the only one who has a good reason to waste ammo
Yep. The problem is their superiors are under an illusion that the regular soldiers aren't. I wonder how long it will be before the Taliban are back in power.
I was hesitant to watch this for years thinking it would be some anti-military propaganda or something along those lines. I will be the first to admit that I am wrong. This documentary really shows the "damned if we do, damned if we don't" nature of US-Afghan relations at the time, and it's saddening to me to see that there is so little that can be done, but so much that should.
I think it’s really valuable actually. If the public is informed on what the real factors are, they can adjust / reform their pressure towards pursuing more productive policies (and not supporting dumb or hasty policies).
The guy at the start seems really intelligent. Splitting a force into an Infil Group, Attack Support Group, and Reservists is smart. Also utilizing local resources is smart as well to know where and how much the enemy presence is in certain areas.
Yeah, I would guess he is one of the few that actually paid attention to the training/education by western forces. I can't speak for other branches or militaries, but that was some of the basics from battle drill 1: conduct a platoon attack.
That man gave an impassioned plea for those village elders to join him, and it was well constructed, and crafted to his audience. It takes a long time to teach someone how to do that. I suspect it was more from who he was as a whole person, not just some military training. He just couldn't get a "yes" out of them for the reasons given shortly thereafter.

If you ask me, I say we get all our boys home and those idiots down there can quite frankly go and f.... And worst thing is that soldiers want to serve their country, but with politicians like those shown, the sad truth is that their sacrifice was for nothing and doesn't change a bit. This is a terrible situation down there and we shouldn't intervene.
dude. how are the this shit at this? god damn back in the Marines it seemed like we thought we didn't know what the fuck we were doing but these guys are making us look like incredible special ops guys.
My friend stationed there who just came home told me a story of how bad it is over there.... And quote: "By far the poorest country on earth, I was called on a walk about for a missing child. We rolled up to a Cesspool and I saw that the child was face down dead in a pile of shit in the pool. I walked chest deep into the shit to pull this dead child out by his legs. By the time we got to the father's house we had learned that the father killed the child cause he was tired of hearing him whining from an ear ache. He didn't know what to do so the father killed him and threw him in the cesspool".
As sad as it is that's the kind of sick, disturbing thing that happens daily over there and no matter what the U.S. tries to do nothing will change it.
KOZ PRODUCTIONS Yeah same here I faced many scenes like that over there. Mothers who bash their heads in of babies because they wouldn’t stop crying from hunger so they just kill them! Forget using a rubber not having to get in the first place or sterilization in mass
I don't think there's a more frustrating summation of the situation than at 19:00 to 20:00 The implication that he wouldn't be as frank is that they knew they were being bullshitted and didn't mind, because it was bullshit they liked hearing. That is a horrible subtext.

Nah, I'm a fan of the guy who was absolutely off his ass on whatever opiod, clearly knows what he was doing.
There aren't many like him around over there.
Seeing the Afghan solder wearing a Russian helmet from the Soviet invasion really just shows you how much of a futile effort the US involvement in Afghanistan really is
One more Bowl The first video showed there is a lot of effort from the marines.
Lol, we aren’t gonna kit them up with nice stuff? Tf? They’ll just sell it

Cyphrix101 Don’t be fooled Vice has produced some amazing documentaries.
I think it’s really valuable actually. If the public is informed on what the real factors are, they can adjust / reform their pressure towards pursuing more productive policies (and not supporting dumb or hasty policies).
Just leave them be!! It's the only thing that it will actually work!!

If he only had a discipline soldiers I bet they can accomplish every operation they had
It's clear the afghans don't want to fight for themselves
they just want to be left to smoke weed, opium and diddle boys

And worst thing is that soldiers want to serve their country, but with politicians like those shown, the sad truth is that their sacrifice was for nothing and doesn't change a bit.
