- In this week's narrowboat vlog, I meet Andy Flint from Forces Vets Afloat who has a wonderful 1921 coal butty which is being restored for a Veteran who needs a home. It has so many unique features which haven't been seen on a boat before. Sit back, relax and enjoy x

It's always lovely to hear from you and I will get back to you!
Excellent channel!! I'm an old US Navy Veteran and I absolutely adore the thought and progress of the project boats. More power to it. The measure of the greatness of a country is how it treats its veterans. And I loved the poetry at the end. You truly are a rare talent. Fair winds and following seas. Young lady.
Welcome aboard, Lee! Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I'm so glad that you liked the Forces Vets Afloat Boat and that it had some significance for you. Have a wonderful rest of the week. Take care🌻🦋
Your boar, journal, sketches, channel, and YOU are most beautiful...thank you for a wonderful experience.
Thank you so much for such a kind comment. I am so chuffed that you like the channel. Have a wonderful rest of the week. Take care🌻🦋
Thanks for bringing the Veterans Afloat project to our attention. Just a wonderful idea! I’ve visited their go fund me site and hope others will as well.
It is such a wonderful idea, isn't it? I will look out for more of their boats as I travel the waterways. Well done for visiting their Go Fund Me site; it is such a great cause. Take care🌻🦋
No, it can’t be the end, no whistle from the kettle, no cookies on a plate, no clang of spoon stirring and a different cup…..
The donation of the boat and volunteers to do work on it is so gracious and what a terrific idea to give a home to a veteran ❤ I sure hope we get to see the gifting !!!
I’m a little off put at finding your channel this week, I’ve gotten very little done 😉
Blessings
I think it's super that you are watching the vlogs and going through some of the old ones too. I stopped showing the kettle and tea making for a while, even though I always have a tea and a treat with my journal, but then several viewers said that they missed it; so I try and include it in the edit now. Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care🦋🌻
What a beautiful commentary - very rare to have such perfect diction! The content brilliant too.
Hi Derek, thank you for such a lovely comment! I am so pleased that you enjoyed the vlog. Have a wonderful rest of the week. Take care🌻🦋
Just magnificent,Thank you
Thank you so much, Steve! I am so pleased that you enjoyed it. Wishing you a wonderful rest of the weekend and week ahead.🌻🦋
How cool is this story about the old boats. What a great man and amazing thing to do.
Andy and his team of volunteers are doing an amazing job. Thank you for your comment.🌻🦋
What a wonderful thing to set up a vet for success in a new life!
It is such a brilliant idea isn't is? And what a special boat this one is too! Thank you so much for watching. Have a super Sunday and week ahead, take care🦋🌻
The grebes are so amusing. Courtship dances.
I love watching the Grebes!🥰 Take care🦋🌻
Standing ovation to the cute little sedge warbler!!! Encore encore...to the kind people who donated the narrow boat for the Vets...what a fantastic idea, I hope it takes off and its not just a one of. Good luck guys. May I be bold enough to say in public Vanesssa that I notice your vlogs have changed a little...I miss the mindful meander at the end of your videos they dont seem as long as they used to be...
Hi Jenny, that sedge warbler stole my heart🥰! Thank you so much for your comment about the vlogs; I love getting feedback. Do you mean the mindful cruise at the end? I think I changed things up a bit as my audience are mainly narrowboat enthusiasts and I was leaving that bit to the end by which time, they had switched off! Let me know, and I can see what changes I can make to the order. Have a super lovely evening.🌻🦋
@@themindfulnarrowboat Hi Vanessa the whole reason I watch you is that you dont just deal with the workings of narrowboats, how to fix an engine, the history in depth of every place you visit or the history of the canals.. you share your views on nature. Show what you see eg birds I would never see in Oz,, stunning scenery I also wouldnt see in Oz. You meet interesting characters like ?Allan doing up the donated or abandoned (people really do that??) NB's for ex Vets. I love your artistry (photography, poems and sketches in your journals)..you are different to the rest. My comment re the endings was more that at the start you told us what was happening then it was "sit back, relax and enjoy the mindful meanderings" I just thought the mindful part seemed to be shorter, and if people cut off before viewing that, then that's sad because that's the whole point of your channel. Dont change anything, mine was just a comment. You are terrific. Everyone is looking for different things about narrowboating and thats fine. I happen to like your channel best BECAUSE of its content not because of what it doesnt have like someone else...if you understand my waffle...maybe its my Aussie accent LOL
PS I think Neil Waite below says it so much better than me and in less words ha ha
Good evening Vanessa what a lovely vlog tonight full of everything🙂 Mr Mindful has done a great job with ur new roof garden a good space to grow a variety of things, Alice Grace will be full of colour hopefully this summer. What a good idea to refurbish the old narrowboat for homeless veterans every one deserves a place to call home. Take care and see u next week 🦋🍅🌶🥦🥬🍓
Hi Simon, I hope that you had a good week. Mr Mindful has outdone himself with those veg boxes so I better develop some green fingers and grow us some food to eat now! You must know your plants well as all of your fruit and veg emojis are on my roof, but the tumbling versions of tomatoes as we can't have anything blocking the view when we are cruising. Thank you for your lovely comment. Wishing you a wonderful weekend.🦋🌻
@@themindfulnarrowboat if that's the case may be a bow camera is needed, we don't want the new paint work to get damaged after ur hard work.
Sedge warblers are the most fantastic singers. They really seem to do it for pleasure. The old boat was very interesting. So much history and character. It would have taken families on some memorable holidays.
I could listen to a sedge warbler all day long, 🥰 and that particular one sang for such a long time that I had to edit a lot of it out of the vlog! I'm glad that you found the old boat interesting. Thank you so much for your comment. Wishing you a wonderful weekend, Bicyclehub.🦋🌻
So great to see such life-changing donations being made for our ex servicemen what a brilliant scheme ….
It is such a beautiful charity isn't it? Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Take care 🌻🦋
Vann, We just love it when you stop and talk to people and when you take us all along with you when you walk through
...towns and villages.
Hi John, I am so pleased that you enjoy the interactions as I just love meeting new people and finding out about them, but often, I feel embarrassed to ask if I can film them and don't mention the vlog. Andy was a star and what a super cause too! Wishing you a wonderful weekend.🌻🦋
Love the style of your videos. You have found the sweet-spot.
Thank you so much, Doc Jay for such a lovely comment. It is great to know that you are enjoying the vlogs. Have a super weekend, take care🦋🌻
your videos are so beautiful, peacefull and calming. thank you! 🙂
What a lovely comment! Thank you so much for taking the time to send it. Have a great week. Take care🌻🦋
Another relaxing vlog and what a great thing to do for the Vets….. altho they shouldn’t be homeless in the first place!!! 🙏
Hi Caz, thank you so much for your lovely comment! I agree with you that our Veterans shouldn't be homeless in the first place. Take care🌻🦋
The word "enjoy" doesn't really cover it, I can't begin to describe the heart warming feeling I get when I see the good things people can do, and the amazing nature shots as always. LOVED it. Take care.
Russell, what a beautiful comment. Thank you so much for writing it! It’s such a pleasure to be able to share stories like Andy’s and I am so pleased that you enjoyed the vlog. Wishing you a wonderful rest of the weekend 🦋🌻
My neck of the woods again, we moor at Sawley Marina, you drove right past the paint where I fell in, right opposite the lovely houseboat that you passed. We often do a short cruise to eat at one of the lovely village pubs in Shardlow. We take our cat Rio with us and he sits outside with us while we eat. You saw some amazing wildlife again, I’m missing the water, we’ve not cruised for a couple of weeks because my husband is poorly, he’s been taken into hospital today. It’s been a long day and I really needed this vlog. What a fantastic idea that is to give boats to veterans who need somewhere to live. An amazing idea and so special! Thanks for a lovely vlog Vanessa, stay safe, lots of love. xxxx
Shirley, I hope you and your husband are ok. What a worrying time for you all. You’ll be in my thoughts and prayers and I wish your husband a speedy recovery. I think it’s wonderful that your cat goes out with you for a meal and waits outside! What an amazing feline you must have. Take care, wishing you all my love🦋🌻
vanessa thanks for my weekly fix of mindfulness blessings love peace davey
You are so welcome, daveyboy price!😊 Wishing you a wonderful weekend.🦋🌻
Excellent vlog Vanessa! Had a bit of everything in this one. And what a great cause for them boats to go to the homeless veterans! Really enjoyed it!
Hi Vince, thank you so much! I agree with you about the great cause; there are so many wonderful people out there, helping others. Meeting people like that just restores my faith in humankind. Happy cruising!🌻🦋
Yes.
The boat Daisy brings tears to the eyes.
It is such a special boat for such a special cause that it really does bring tears to the eyes, Trev. Thank you for your comment. Happy cruising!🦋🌻
The red campion looking great. Such a cool idea.
Thank you! The front fender has absolutely nothing on it though, not even a weed!🤣 Take care🦋🌻
You sure have captured nature in it’s splendour. Wonderful. Thank you..
Thank you so much, that is a very kind thing to comment. Have a super week, take care🌻🦋

Thank you for donating. And thank you for sharing this video (& your insightful reply last week!) Another blessed vlog
Thank you so much, Jeff and you are very welcome! Wishing you a wonderful weekend.🌻🦋
Vanessa! I don’t know how I missed this vlog. We traveled from Colorado in May of this year to rent a lovely NB from Sawley Marina. I caught a glimpse of her as she is moored just across from the Veteran’s boat! I’ve seen that boat…and was so happy to see the bright orange bow of NB Tiller Girl. One of our best ever (if not THE BEST) Holidays in our 35 years together. Thank you! Made my whole day❤ also…of course yet another lovely Vlog
Hi Jayne, Tiller Girl is a beautiful boat. I saw her a few times when I was there. Your holiday sounds lovely; that’s how living on one starts! Thank you for your comment. Have a wonderful week, take care🦋🌻
BRILLIANT..AMAZING CAPTURE OF THE BIRD SINGING...

Hi Sandy, how lovely to be able to hear the birdsong through your iPad as the air is filled with wonderful chirpings and chirrups at the moment. Thank you for your lovely comment. Wishing you a wonderful weekend.🦋🌻

Jack, you are so welcome and thank you so much for such a lovely comment. Take care🌻🦋
Hello - just discovered your channel. I like the way you name the various plants and creatures that meet you on your travels, and the gentle background music. I've passed your url to another man who fights for the rights for homeless vet's.
Welcome aboard, hamshackleton and thank you for joining the journey! I am so glad that you enjoyed the vlog. It is so kind of you to share the channel with someone that you know. He might be interested in the Forces Vets Afloat charity which I have included a link to in the video description. Have a great week!🦋🌻

Hi wonderful vlog. Thanks for showing the boat that was donated to go to a vet. What a great idea. I guessed correctly what you would paint this week. POEM WAS LOVELY I’m not yelling. Must have poked wrong button. Thank you
Congratulations on your guess and I only chose two things for the journal this week, so you did really well to know which two that I would choose!⭐️🤩 I am so glad that you enjoyed the vlog and the poem. Wishing you a wonderful weekend.🌻🦋

hi vanessa my mom was a good story teller way back in the 1950ies for when we went camping in the middle of nowhere and put words to what ever the birds were saying
Oh Harris, I love the sound of your Mum! Camping in the middle of nowhere, story telling with the birds, what a magical experience that must have been for you as a child. Thank you so much for sharing this. Wishing you a wonderful weekend.🌻🦋

Hello Vanessa - greetings from Poland
Congratulations on reaching number 100. I'm only 35 behind you now!
A wonderful video. Loved the narrow boat for homeless military vets. What a great idea
This vlog had a bit of everything. I really enjoyed it. Thank you.
Hi Michael, only 35 behind! Don't stop now will you!?! 😃 Thank you for your lovely comment. I think that I read somewhere that there is a sedge warbler in Poland, but it has a different song? Is this true? Wishing you a wonderful weekend.🌻🦋
he Aquatic Warbler (Acrocephalus paludicola) is the rarest, and only globally threatened, passerine bird (IUCN status “vulnerable”), found in mainland Europe, with a very small world population of only 13,500-21,000 pairs. Once widespread and numerous on fen mires and wet meadows, this habitat specialist has disappeared from most of its former key range in northern Germany and Poland due to habitat loss and degradation.
@@michaelpilling9659 Thank you for getting back to me about the Aquatic Warbler. Are there reintroduction programmes and protected sites for these birds do you know?
No sites that I can find. Nor do I have any details about reintroduction either. Please let me investigate and I'll get back know to you
First video of yours I've ever watched....very well done. Just subscribed!
Welcome aboard, Fred and thank you so much for subscribing! 🌻🦋
Beautiful and informative as usual with plenty of compassion for a great cause.
Thank you so much for your kindness, Michael. I am so pleased that you enjoyed the vlog. Wishing you a wonderful weekend.🦋🌻

I feel exactly the same about meeting people and hearing their stories as we pass through on our boats. You do it so naturally on your cruises. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Happy cruising.🌻🦋
I love your way you take us on a nature trail. You make it so interesting and the photography is superb. What wonderful people are in this world who work hard to help others. Thank you for giving us an insight to their work they are doing. Thanks again. Trish (Vince`s Mum)
Hi Patricia, thank you so much for your lovely comment. You are so right about there being so many wonderful people in the world, helping others and it's a pleasure to be able to meet them. Have a great week!🦋🌻
Hi Vanessa, this weeks video just oozes everything that's good from the kindness of yours and other people's hearts to others, to the beautiful scenery and natural world. about you! How we need these atrributes in this confusing world!Your videos are very much appreciated. Thankyou!
James you are so welcome and thank you for such a lovely comment! It is really special to get feedback like this; it means a lot to me. Wishing you a wonderful weekend.🌻🦋
Hi Vanessa from down under (New Zealand). Love your vlog. Found your channel a couple of weeks ago and have started viewing your vlogs from the begining. My wife and I came to the UK in 2010 and spent 5 weeks with friends on their 57 ft NB Mair, starting from Bristol, K&A, Thames, Limehouse Basin, Regent, Little Venice and moored for 2 weeks on a pontoon adjacent M&S Head office in Paddington Basin. We both agreed that it was one of the best holidays we ever had and decided that we would get our own NB when we retired. I have some comments and questions for you and will write an email when I finish viewing all your vlogs. Very well presented and informative, I love your style. Thank you and bye for now.
Hi Wayne and Mrs Shepherd, welcome aboard and thank you for joining our journey! I know those waters and moorings well and before I started my vlog, I did all of the waters in the south. Little Venice is one of my all time favourite places to moor; it's unbelievable to be in the heart of London and in such a picturesque spot for such a small amount of money! You covered a lot of ground in your 5 weeks on board. I am always happy to answer questions, so I'll await your email. Wishing you a wonderful weekend.🌻🦋
Beautiful video , beautiful poetry and paintings . Thank you for sharing .
Thank you so much, Mario for such a lovely comment! What kind things to say😊 Have a super Sunday and wonderful week ahead! Take care🌻🦋

Hi John, I hope you are well. I am so glad you enjoyed the vlog and Daisy the Narrowboat! Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care 🌻🦋
Loving all you videos of your life aboard a narrowboat. The scenery is so beautiful I’m really very envious of your life, it’s something I should have done a few years ago….too long in the tooth now!
At some stage will you be publishing your journals for us to enjoy please, they remind me of ‘The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady’ by Edith Holden. Your poetry and artwork are both stunning! Thank you for sharing some of it with us! 🥰
Thank you so much for such a lovely comment, Edlin. I am so pleased that you are enjoying the vlogs. I’m not sure how old you are but I have met 70 and 80 year olds out on their narrowboats, so never give up on your dreams. I’m hoping to print off this year’s journal at the end of 2022 as some viewers have also asked about having a copy. I am so flattered to be asked about it and really grateful to you for expressing an interest in my journal too- thank you ☺️ Have a wonderful rest of the weekend and week ahead, take care🦋🌻
Thanks Vanessa for another interesting vlog, what a great idea to repurpose the boats for veterans. You have another fan, my cat loves to listen to the birdsong.
Hugs and kisses to your cat, Christine and a big thank you to you for a lovely comment. Wishing you a wonderful weekend.🐱🤗🌻🦋
I have just stumbled across your blog and it was delightful! We're on the verge of making the splash into canal boating and are well aware of the pitfalls and difficulties but this was a timely reminder of the peaceful, positive side to canal life. Such a variety in the one video and the Mindful Narrowboat fulfils it's name. I love the nature, the art work and the poetry as well as the community interest story. I'll be back for some more little gems like this. Thank you Vanessa.
Welcome aboard GLB60 and thank you so much for your lovely comment! It sounds like you have exciting times ahead and I wish you the best of luck with your move; you won't regret it. Wishing you a wonderful week!🌻🦋
If I was younger I could see me living aboard a narrow boat. But I'm here living in Florida and spending my time rebuilding my home and large yards. I would like to go on a short cruise though. Maybe sometime soon I can do this.
Hi John, thank you so much for watching my vlog and for your lovely comment too. I hope you get to go on that cruise one day soon. Take care🌻🦋

Hi Mellie, thank you for your lovely comment. Publishing some of the journals has only recently become a project as I didn't think anyone would want to buy them, but I have been so pleasantly surprised with some requests that I am now in the process of putting something together. Wishing you a wonderful weekend.🌻🦋
I should add that I'm an old US 7th fleet Navy vet who served during Vietnam and afterwards. My family has a long history with ships.
I can't imagine what you have been through in your life having served in Vietnam. You must be an incredibly brave person, to be so dedicated towards serving your country at the risk of your own life. I admire that courage. I hope you are enjoying life now rebuilding your home and yards. Thank you so much for your comment. Take care🌻🦋
Hi Vanessa & Zephyr and Mr Mindful
I can't put in words how Beautiful this particular episode was. You just keep getting the tone right, every time.
The Boats for Vet's charity is so heartwarming, and that old Narrowboat, with all it's history, will hopefully change the life for a Veteran, that needs a lift.
Those Great Crested Grebes are stunning. I love their mirrored courtship dances. Strictly on the Canal 💃🏽🕺🏽💜.
I read your article in the WaterWays Magazine. That magazine is a gem. I picked it up at the Boating museum in Elsemere Port.
Thank you again, for a beautiful, mindful, video. 🙏🏻🐶🐾
Hi Julie, thank you for such a lovely comment; your 'Strictly on the Canal' made me laugh, but it's so true when it comes to the Great Crested Grebes. They are just mesmerising to watch!
It is great to know that you read the article in Waterways World; I was very nervous about being interviewed, and it is really strange to see myself in print, but I am so grateful to have been asked.
Anyway, I hope that you have a wonderful rest of the week and thank you once again!🦋🌻
Love and enjoy your vlog very much. Always learn something. God bless and be safe.

If they give them to American vets, please do not forget me..USNavy..sailed with HMS Aurora on a Nato cruise back in the early 70s, even picked up an english sea captain and did a burial at sea on the way back to the US.. Shardlow! That brings back memories from my childhood - a good starting place for canal and country walks in the 50s. Loved the vet boat; a reminder of the people who are neglected by government and who deserve better. Beautiful episode , as always. Thanks.

What a wonderful idea to help ex serviceman. And how incredibly sad that they can end up homeless in the first place. I am planning to buy a narrowboat and stumbled across your channel today. After my initial excitement I started having some anxieties (total life change at 49), but seeing your channel and gentle energy has reminded me why I was attracted to this lifestyle, thank you ☺️

Wow, what a small world. SWIFTS BOAT PAINTING who's sign you filmed did work on Holly the cafe boat.
Small world indeed! I might be needing that boat painter if I mess my own attempt up. Wishing you a wonderful rest of the weekend 🌻🦋
What a joy! Thank you for the lovely spring vlog. The boat for a vet is indeed so lovely. I love it’s history and the special touches from those who care. Here is hoping that Daisy’s occupant vlogs a bit, or that you are able to introduce the vet or vets. Your garden looks lovely. I just picked up some more starts for my garden. It has been so wet that planting in my beds has had to wait. That was perfect as I have a broken arm. I should be released to plant next week. Thank you for your journal.
Oh no, Nanci, a broken arm! I hope you repair quickly. If I find out more information about Daisy’s new owner, then I’ll let you all know but I think the boat makeover will take a while yet, especially the engine maintenance. Rest that arm of yours, take care🌻🦋
Lovely 🏵️
Thank you, Top Flight Photography and Video! Do you have a RUclips channel? Take care🌻🦋
@@themindfulnarrowboat yes I've a channel bits of all sorts really perhaps take a look 👍
Hello. Really enjoying your vlog which really embraces and captures the many enchanting and beautiful things that i love so much about narrow boating and its way of life. I actually moored a couple boats away from you a few week back in Alrewas. I was unaware of your vlog at the time however i noticed the monkey on the side and Heywood beneath. Im originally from Heywood in north Manchester and this was what attracted my attention to your boat. Not sure if someone has already commented but Heywood is known as "monkey town" and back in the day, all the public houses had bar stools with holes in them so the monkeys could put their tails through them. Hence the monkey on the stool with its tail through the hole with Heywood displayed below it. Now a distant memory for you as i saw your vlog removing it and giving Alice Grace a facelift. I also enjoyed the vlogs on the middle levels and its rivers and tributaries. I spent 10 years moored on that system and it brought back some fond memories of my time spent there. Keep up the Vlogs, look forward to seeing your future adventures with the lovely poetry summing up the wonderful events experienced on your travels.
Hi Pete, thank you so much for your lovely comment and welcome aboard!
I only found out recently, after I had removed the monkey, that it was a "Heywood Monkey" as someone on Twitter told me the story. Then I felt guilty that I had removed a transfer that related to its previous owners home town! Now, I am half thinking that my daisy painting will be cursed by the Heywood Monkey!🤣 🐒
It must have been amazing to spend 10 years on the middle levels and the rivers around there. I absolutely loved it, especially the River Great Ouse.
Happy cruising and have a great week.🦋🌻

Hi Anthony, thank you so much for another beautiful comment. You asked how many miles that we have covered in our boat and I will have to work it out to include the most recent adventures but it is well over a thousand by now. Wishing you a wonderful rest of the weekend and week ahead. Take care🦋🌻
Hi Vanessa - a great vlog. You are certainly leading an very interesting life which is a little different to my boating life in Qld Aus.
Hi there, Don! Thank you for your lovely comment.😊 How wonderful to be on a boat in Qld, Aus. Which part of Qld? Have a great rest of the week.🌻🦋
Hi Vanessa. I live at Hervey Bay Qld which has Fraser Island close by and travel north to Whitsunday Islands and beyond to Cape York. Hopefully will get to Broome WA one day.
I went to Fraser Island 25 years ago!😍 I was sick over everyone on the light aircraft over there, but the island made up for that very quickly. You lucky thing living in that part of the world! Whale watching territory too.🐳🌻🦋
Vanessa you went to the island at the right time. The island is still a beautiful place however vehicle traffic & visitor numbers are through the roof & I envisage limits will be introduced on a daily basis sometime in the future. Whales are plentiful. I have a home & a mooring in the" Bay".
Another wonderful well done video. Artistic, educational, well thought out and constructed. I have forwarded the link to a number of friends. I have made many trips to Great Britain during my career and your videos bring back many great memories. -8 f here toady and will climb all the way up to +12 f, just like summer so will go for a walk 🌞
Thank you so much for your lovely comment and for passing on my channel to your friends. @@themindfulnarrowboat thanks and you too! 🌞🌿🌸
Love plants you have this must have been last year
It was 2 years ago and I was growing a potato vine in the front called GlasNevin. It made such beautiful flowers that crept all along the front door, but sadly the winter made it very poorly and it never recovered! 😢 I am trying to grow an evergreen honeysuckle on the roof in the hope that it will trail down and produce fragrant flowers that attract the elephant hawk moth caterpillar and moth, but that is a work in progress at the moment.Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super week. Take care 🌻🦋
You are amazing .❤disabled ex service man.
You are 100 x more amazing for having been in the Services. Thank you so much! Take care 🌻🦋👏
@@themindfulnarrowboat Thank you I also love your poetry which I use to write a lot of.
Where is your poetry now? Writing poetry is a great way to lose yourself for a while isn’t it?🌻🦋
@@themindfulnarrowboat Still have it put away for safekeeping even had some of it published in the international poet's society it help me to deal with my PTSD .
Being a vet myself and lucky enough to own my own home it saddens me that charities are helping those who have given so much instead of our own penny pinching government.
How right you are! Also, thank you for the work you have done and I hope you are happy and enjoying you veteran years. Wishing you a wonderful weekend.🌻🦋
