Thanks so much again for this. I myself had this recital taped at the time though it deteriorated due to a long sojourn in a damp garage. NK's performance of the Dupre is probably even finer than his version at Westminster, though the latter remains for me, still the ultimate recording of that work.
@@ArchiveofRecordedOrganMu-by7li Nicolas told me that this all started back in 1968 with the "Great Cathedral Organ" EMI typo. He said that he corrected it, but they didn't.
This and the Westminster Cathedral version were recorded around 1986, ie the Dupre centenary which saw the beginning of a Dupre Renaissance. I heard Kynaston play 2e Symphonie in Winchester that year - he was obviously touring the piece. His playing of it was top notch, like this. The programme also included the Germani Toccata!
I should add I heard Simon Preston play the Symphonie Passion a couple of times that year. Also the well known John Scott St Paul's Dupre recordings were issued. Etc, etc.
Stunning playing.
Agreed! The bigger surprise is how interesting this instrument is! I've never heard much about it all.
I think the Weir/Hradetzky disc was 1970s? i.e. some time before the Dupre centenary performances by Kynaston.

Pedant alert: N Kynaston is 'Nicolas'.
🤣That's what happens when I do these things last at night!

Wow, a third upload of Dupré's Deuxième Symphonie. Was it really popular back in the days?
