Seit 1992 dauert nun schon die grandiose Karriere von Shaggy an. Er ist einer der bekanntesten jamaikanischen Reggae-Künstler und weltweit beliebt. "Mr. Lover Lover" ist nicht nur Musiker und mehrfacher Grammy-Preisträger, sondern auch DJ und Schauspieler.
1968 als Orville Richar Burrell in Kingston geboren, nahm Shaggy ab 1987 Gesangsunterricht und wurde im Jahr darauf entdeckt, als er mit Kumpels in der Straße sang. Doch die Gesangskarriere musste warten, denn Shaggy ging zu den US-Marines und diente auch im Zweiten Golfkrieg. Nach seiner Rückkehr startete er 1992 seine Karriere als Musiker.
Schon 1993 hatte Shaggy mit "Oh Carolina", dem Dancehall-Remix eines alten Ska-Songs, seinen ersten Welthit und wurde zum Star. Es folgten Hits wie "Boombastic", "Angel", "It Wasn't Me" und viele andere. 2018 überraschte Shaggy die Musikwelt mit dem Album "44/876", das er gemeinsam mit Sting aufnahm. 2019 experimentierte er auf "Wah Gwaan?!" mit verschiedenen musikalischen Genres.
2007 wurde Shaggy in den Rang des Commander im jamaikanischen Order of Distinction erhoben und erhielt 2022 die Ehrendoktorwürde der Brown University.

He never lost it shaggy is incredible indeed industry done him wrong was massive back in the 90 and before but think people judgemental over weather shaggy is reggae/soca/dancehall/bashment/pop/electro
Cheesy or not u can’t change a musician who done it all sometimes redoing album to make modern sound era sometimes haveing 2 versions of the same album one being original authentic for that generation one version completely different. Don’t understand but guess people took the mickey of one album to the extreme with criticism it being one genre is why we got modern version. Most of the successful bands musicians of that era made massive comebacks and successful multiple times many years later. Timeless masterpieces don’t need redoing years later somethings modern bands today don’t think it sells and they wrong but you can’t shame musician for being cheesy if the musician still makeing music today and is currently still successful in completely new age of 2023 of generation of people don’t appreciate the artist of back then still here today the musician still reviving career that is already well established in his own rights from the very beginning
@ohnlyons Nope he never lost it, I saw him July 2023 outdoors in ARIZONA 112 degrees.......and we were having some record breaking HOT as fire days. The poor lovely ladies from TLC (who opened for him) cut their set extremely short, they had to get off the stage it was so damn hot.........
I was at a shaggy concert in Cape Town for my birthday. I was escorted to the front row with my sister's. Best experience ever. Shaggy is phenomenal.

Ich war dort. Shaggy hat sich völlig lächerlich gemacht. Die ganze zeit zuviel rumgelabert. Zum Schluss hat er die Zeit gerissen und die orga hat im den Saft abgedreht. Er war beleidigt wie ein kleines Kind. Weniger labern, mehr Musik machen.....
