Probably the best overall Bioshock because its gameplay is much improved over Bioshock 1 but to me nothing beats Rapture. The audio diaries and characters like Sander Cohen and Dr. Steinman and Suchong are just better. Bioshock 1 will always be my favorite but this is an overall better game. Now if they remaster Bioshock 1 and give it some gameplay tweaks, my life would be complete because the Bioshock series is something I play through every single year..
Alex Sosna I do not think it is a better game, it is too easy... Not really fun to play, I always feel like something is missing in the game, bioshock 2 was amazing
I finished this game back in 2013. After this game I played many more games and finished them. But trust me nothing felt like this one. The ending was just unbelievable. The creator is a true genius. I feel like playing BioShock Infinite over and over again. This game is a recommended game for all the gamers out there. Forever it will be the best game in my life.
I used to be like that too. Why get a PC if I can play the same games on console? I actually ended up getting a decent PC and playing Infinite at 4k, 60fps has to be one of the greatest experiences I've ever had in my life. I'm glad to have added another platform in my gaming life. 👍🏻
BioShock: Infinite is by far the best game of this generation. I didn't think anything could beat BioShock but Infinite just leaves its mark on you. You fall in love with the characters, best level design I have ever seen (I spent just as much time fighting as I did exploring for fun) Fun gameplay and the best story I have ever seen in a game. Never before have I beaten a game and sat their in awe from what I had experienced. This game doesn't deserve a 10/10, it deserves an 11/10
Bioshock in my opinion is Half-Life's counterpart. It incorporates story, good writing, enjoyable combat and meshes those all together to formulate what makes a memorable game. Both Valve and the creators of Bioshock understand good pacing making sure to balance combat while giving the player those moments away from those action sequences to become enriched in the story of the game.
The last time I experienced a story that impacted me, made me feel and made me think like Infinite has done, was Chinatown. That's saying something. Chinatown is one of the greatest movies ever made, with arguably the greatest script. The fact that this game is comparable to such a seminal work of art is a testament to its brilliance. This game proves to me that video games are art.
I encountered about 4-5 handymen in my playthrough. You have to note that they drop gear as well so if there were plenty in the game they'd have to make lots of different gear items so you wouldn't pick up the same thing. They were like mini-boss fights and were honestly quite difficult to take down, I don't think I would have wanted many more in the game. I think better Boys of Silence encounters would have been nice but otherwise I am personally happy. Oh and yes I can't wait for DLC also :D
The game is fantastic, well worth per-ordering. A few of the achievements were a little too easy though. They could've made some really cool ones like: *Execute a Crow on Hard difficulty*
Stretched middle? I'm happy about that! More content! What I don't like is how limited I feel to just two vigors and then hasn't to pull up the wheel to switch because I like varying my vigors based on different situations and pulling up the wheel gets annoying
I want to use my PC for other things. The consoles get me into gaming mood more smoothly. I like the feel of a game controller and the presence of a dedicated gaming machine. The last thing I want to do is hand out a big sum for a gaming PC and deal with stuff like installation. Hate that crap. Although I gotta admit PCs maybe better for RTS games like Warcraft. So IGN, please note that there are people that have various reasons for sticking with consoles and set aside your 'better get a PC' attitude. Other than that great review. Want to get it for my PS3.
You've seen nothing unless you experience the game in 4k 60fps like I have. Still used an Xbox One controller instead of mouse and keyboard. Wish this game was released on PS4/XBO too
Dude I have seen a ps3 vs PC and ps3 looks better just face u say PC is super but that's just because u wasted 100000's of dollars for the same thing as a 300$ ps3
I Remember when PC gamers had 0 friends and would sit at home by themselves and console gamers would pack up their stuff and head over to a friend's house and hook it up. Usually playing at the kids house with the biggest tv unless the other kids mom made the best snacks. Then the internet came along...........
No , they were based in/on Rapture, a mid atlantic underwater city and so Columbia is very different. It is a bioshock title because of the plasmids (now called vigors) and things like that!
Alright so im wondering if this is worth getting on 360. Earlier i bought crysis 3 and farcry 3 for xbox and my biggest complaint about those games was that the framerate wasnt steady at all. Does this game have a steady frame rate on xbox?
Thing is, ign's argument is irrellevent about the stetched middle when you think about it. Remember in bioshck one when we met Sander Cohen. That part of the game wasnt needed but it was still incredibly entertaining and we all loved that crazy mainiac
If it changes the game enough that it matters than yes, they do need to mention The thing about having to pause the game in order to select more weapons on consoles. The inability to see the vistas as they are meant to be, etc.
Drawing similarities and differences to its other counterparts allows for comparative analysis. He does make a valid point with his comparisons like saying the button layouts and to a lesser extent graphics on the Xbox/PS3 versions take you out of the world requiring you to pause it. I don't think you do "get it." The point is to review by analyzing the work not in a vacuum. They also discussed the first Bioshock in regards to style and intention. Mentioned shooters genre as a whole, ect.
This is the only time I've seen IGN make a separate PC review and also pointing to the comparison with consoles, I think this a huge hint that the console version will suffer greatly without outright bashing it. Can't wait for the new consoles!
im half way through finding the telescopes and kinescopes and not even half way to finding voxophones i think the acheivments are pretty cool they give alot replayability hearthbreaker 50g or shooting a handyman only in the heart. was a good challenge it took me awhile to find all the combinations for the vigors acheivments were good in my view
never played a bioshock game before for the main fact that it was a FPS and it seemed lack luster to me but this game looks unique and not like other FPS games im considering getting this for sure
I did actually :-D Spec Ops is one of my favourite games of all time. It's cool because, you know, it started out as a sort of "gears of war clone" but in a desert setting, and people dismissed that game (people I know of, at least), and then ut came out, and everybody was taken by surprise by how good the story in that game was. It details the horrors of war on a human being better than apocalypse now did, IMO. I was sincerely shocked at the end.... looking this devastated guy in the eyes
When it comes to consoles it is, Gears of War and Halo at some point or another have been on the PC, does that mean that they are no longer exclusives anymore?
This game was great and I didn't realize how much I was sucked into the story line until I accidentally shot Elizabeth with an RPG and I yelled out "OH MY GOD!!!" because I thought I killed her...Buy this game people.
Hey what are all the actions you do i mean is it lyk cod bo2??? Are there minigames??? its my first cd! or instead of this which else game can i buy for my xbox 360 (not tooo costly) Pls reply!!!!
considering youve spoiled enough can you tell me what return to sender does i dont know if it picks up any object around the map or only bullets you should know considering you know this soo called apparent ending to the game because im being told many different things about return to sender im being told its the new telekinesis and im being told that it only uses the force to pick up weapons in mid air and control bullets
i only encountoured 4 handymen theyre could be more in locations i didnt bother too look theyre a great enemy. and yes i agree theyre should off been more boys of silence. a great dlc idea you get to play as a handyman who remebers his identity and escapes fink manuafactures to get revenge and you have handyman abilites such as leaping distances throwing objects at enemies and as new colelctibles you could find your body parts such as kidneys other organs that would be a brillaint campaign dlc
I don't think the intention was to have an insane amount of heavy hitters in the game, I felt they added them in only when it was appropriate to the situation. Like you'll notice that you only find Sirens and Boys of Silence in the end sequences in certain areas. It would have been fun to fight more Handmen but I feel with 1999 mode and just the general replayability of the game that we'll jump back in to fight some more of them.
This game is very good, and now that we now know what BF4 is now going to look like. I think if there is a shooter worth keeping your eyes on and that can make huge waves, its Metro Last Light
They got a much deserved GOTY for CoD4 back in 07 or 08. That deserved it, it was an amazing game especially on the PC. I'll never forget that time when I first played Star Wars and Bumper cars. Oh how I miss CoD4
Many things made this year the year for gaming. The PS4, Xbox 720, bioshock infinite, tomb raider, GTA, Saints Row, kingdom hearts 1.5 and a lot more add to this year. And, even though some were disappointments (aliens, walking dead, and sim city), we are in the third month and we already got 3 9 rated games. (Fire emblem, tomb raider, and bioshock infinite). I can't wait for this game, or what the rest of the year awaits for us.
In the options menu I turned the FPS lock off. It may lead to screen tearing but it gave me a really nice frame rate through out the game on Xbox, and I think it works for PS3 as well.
the little tune at the beginning reminds me of once upon a time in america, anyway this looks amazing its getting delivered to me today from amazon i cant wait.
After finishing this. It is certainly a masterpiece, and sets the new standard for stories. Hands down, one of the most complex narratives in gaming history. And while it's FAR from perfect. I know what you mean dude, I really do. I am the first complaining about how videogames have become stale (to use an euphemism) in the last years. Ken Levine is a genius, a sensible and intelligent guy, that has incredible ideas and more importantly, has the balls to make them a reality. Most developers prefer rely on the old tactics of space marines vs aliens, with big guns and explosions, and zero story.
He made it pretty clear that the story was engaging and well told. Personally I don't want any more from that because I want to discover that myself. I do want to know technical details because it can help me decide which version to purchase (which it did.) That's fine, no-one is saying you're not entitled to your opinion. But you can't lower the value of game just because you didn't like it. That is the path that leads to the will-of-one-man and is basically what Bioshock is warning us about!
The only thing I hated was the check points and saving of the game. I would play for 30 minutes to take my time with each level to try and find all the keys and items and would stop playing because I would have to go to work. Coming back to start playing just to find out that I would start back all the way in the beginning of the level. Also at one point in the game I finished two levels and leaving those levels (1 hour) thinking that it would save, but didn't. Decided not to finish the game
In the end Booker finds out he was touched by his uncle in sensitive places and that Elizabeth is actually the avatar and can bend the 4 elements... but what many people did not know is that Bookers is actually his own uncle, and that songbird is Bookers 2nd being but at the same time is his Mother. O.O
Okay seriously, is this a Bioshock review, or IGN telling me to get a PC?
Get a PC fuckhead
Scotty Nguyen's 80s Mullet ps4 version is perfect
Most of the time, PC version of the games are better.
PS3 Version is better of all. My opinion.
Did you get the pc?
Probably the best overall Bioshock because its gameplay is much improved over Bioshock 1 but to me nothing beats Rapture. +DrCerebro I know that this comment is old but that's not how you talk to a beautiful lady man
AngryEsper94 I don't use mine. It's always a chore to get things working. The PS4 version is perfect though
Turel it really is not. Just buy the game off Steam. Download, install, play.
Wow none of these comments aged well
I love how the PC version is the same exact video except with a 9.5 at the end instead of 9.4

Funny you say that, the AI for Elizabeth is compared to Alyx in HL2 Ep 2 a lot.
I remember seeing the twist for the first time. I legit fell off my couch and I couldn't go on for a good ten minutes. My mind was meltedc

I got the PC- Version for Christmas, and it's amazing. :).
Why are you on the console review then?
+The Veneficus That's kind of a dumb question, don't you think? It's the same game, PC or Console.
@wennethicus5212 He also talked about the PC version in the video.
The ending omg i just cant stop thinking about its so mysterious one of the best endings ive ever encounter cant wait for burial at sea ep2 :D

This is on ps4 free to download this month

Did anyone notice that this and the PC review are the EXACT same video except the final score part at the end?
The game is fantastic, well worth per-ordering.
A few of the achievements were a little too easy though.
They could've made some really cool ones like:
*Execute a Crow on Hard difficulty*
Just got this game a few hours ago and I'm in love this game is beautiful I'm 5 hours in and still in awe
is this game a prequel to the entire Bioshock series?
Yes

I may not always agree with igns reviews but they have like the best opening for a game review that was nice and calming
One of the greatest games of all time.
Yes it was.
Even years later, IGN's PC-bias is ridiculous.
theyre only telling the truth...
Best game I have played in ages, ending was amazing and I was completely shocked on the outcome. I want more!
This is what a sequel to a game should be, they leave the controls and ideas there so it feels familiar but they switch up so much it feels new
same here,it should be a 10,I found 0 problems during my playthrough,my favorite FPS game ever made.

It can be, but it will make more sense as you progress through the game.

The thing about having to pause the game in order to select more weapons on consoles. The inability to see the vistas as they are meant to be, etc.
Is this as open as the original Bioshock or is it as linear as Bioshock 2?
So, after you finished the main story, can can't do anything except to play the story again?
would i need an understanding of the events of the previous bioshock games to play and understand infinite?
What's that? I can't hear you over all these exclusives, free online, and Blu-Ray.
The lutece field keeps atoms suspended in motion, allowing for levitation. Its in some of the voxophones.
