My grandpa was born in 1903 and orphaned at 3. I don’t believe he went to school beyond 6th grade. Once when I was young I asked him if he went to high school and he told me he went to school high on a mountain. As I grew up I realized he was one of the smartest and wisest and kindest men I ever knew. Matt reminds me of that kind of a man. There are all kinds of smart and while formal education has many benefits there is a lot to be said for common sense and the school of life.
LOL! Matt your story about the glasses in 7th grade is so relatable! You crack me up man! Best part is, you are so real and matter of fact about it. Keep em comin man!
I agree. Matt might not have loved school but he certainly absorbed a great amount of knowledge sometime in his life to be able to build a home for his family and to help Corie and Austin remodel their home. Not a lot of men can do that. I used to work on a medical school campus. One day I saw a car parked on the street with a flat tire. It sat there for 2 days. On the 3rd day, I was passing by and had to chuckle. There were 2 med students standing by the car, just staring at the wheel. One asked the other, "do you know how to change a tire?" HA! Neither one did. I think a maintenance man came out of the building to help them. They might have scored high grades and passed their MCAT exams, but they had no practical knowledge or skill when it was needed.
Hello from a random English guy who's found your channel randomly & have thoroughly enjoyed listening to you guys. Hope all is well in your corner of the world.
I missed you last night, I looked and looked for you and never did fine you. We had a real bad storm last Thursday and blew out 2 of my tv’s. It really scared me. I think it’s reall great that you are still getting a few vegetables. Matt you are not alone, I didn’t like school either. But my problem was we were really poor and I didn’t have clothes to wear. I only had one shirt and one pair of jeans , I had one bra and I wore it until it was nothing but a rag. Even today it brings back sad memories, My Dad was a coal miner and did the best he could for his family. Sending love and prayers. God bless
My family was really poor also. One pair of shoes, and one skirt and one blouse.I had 8 brothers and sisters.I love them, but really hard growing up.kids were mean in school because of our clothes. It really affected us and still does.I am almost 73 years old. God bless you.
A quick story about "school". I hated it. It's not about "learning". It's about conditioning. Brainwashing. I feel you Matt. I did nothing in school. Never took a book home. Hated it but somehow I was in the graduating class after all those years of torment. Blew my mind! So my school posted in the lobby where all the students measured up in the class at the end of the year. I was curious so I went and looked for my name starting at the bottom of the list. I finally found my named right in the middle of the class. I felt a failure. Why was I not last!
My glasses story is so different. I couldn't see as a child, my parents never got it. In the fourth grade a teacher had us all walk from the back of the room to the front till we could see the writing on the blackboard. I walked to about 3 feet from the board. Lucky for us there was a free glasses clinic. Loss of the chestnuts is so sad. So nice you had a corn harvest!
Ms. Tipper, the only way I passed Algebra 1 and 2 was by memorizing the equations. I can't remember a single thing about it. I also found out many years later I had mild dyslexia. If I was under stress I reverse numbers. I found this out by accident by calling in license plate numbers. My dispatcher finally figured it out. I reversed numbers only. I never understood why it wasn't letters too. I was like Matt about school because we have a big farm and my dad raised a lot of tobacco and hay. I still think I was slave labor 😁. I was ecstatic when we started bailing big round bales. The best way we irrigated was with a water pump running off the PTO on the tractor. A line to the water and a line out is all you need. Matt looks like he's getting skinny. He really looks unfed😬
This was the first time, I had no winter squash, in decades of growing. This is why I say be thankful for the bumper crops, and don't worry about ones that aren't up to snuff❤
Opening a jar of pickles. I laughed so hard. Thank you Tipper for clarifying that. Crows are my favorite bird. I guess the crows around here REALLY like pickles. (I wonder where they stash the jars.) 🤔
My Dad was like Matt about school. He hated it with a passion. Dad was a smart man, but he was not interested in sitting in a desk listening to things he wasn't interested in. He used to say, "My mind was miiiiiiiiiles away under the hood of a car!" ; )
Enjoyed hearing y’all speak about eating peanuts. One of my favorite subject since I grew up in Houston county AL where you celebrate the peanut with close to a month celebration with parades , beauty contests, fair , all kinds of contests relating to everything from farming to calf and hog shows. We love peanuts in southeast AL and of course peanut farmers. Glad to know you like peanuts as well. Kept the videos coming I never miss them and look forward.
I only saw the first bit of the title and I was going to say Tipper needs to lock Matt's glasses up in a safe and only take them out for special occasions 😂
Hi, just wanted to comment about your crow that sounds like opening a jar of pickles. I learned that raspy sound makes him a raven. I am on team grape popsicle, and have eaten extra ones this summer because of you two.😉 Thank you for such appreciation of gardening. Talking about large trees, we were lucky to go to the Redwood Forest in CA last year. FIFTY of us on the bus tour climbed into one that had been struck long ago by lightning we figured. We all sang "How Great Thou Art".❤
Matt what will you tell one of your grandsons if one of them hate school as bad you did? So funny the things we do when we are young and then see the light when we are older.
My favorite part of your videos is your talks. I bet Matt was a rascal when he was young. Throwing his glasses in the dumpster. No telling what other shenanigans he got up to. God bless y'all. Love and prayers 🙏❤🙏❤🙏❤🙏❤🙏❤
Hi Tipper and Matt glad to hear from you again pretty good bean haul they will be good on a cold winter day with cornbread love to all God bless you all
My sister and I both had to wear glasses from a young age. I was able to get contacts when I turned fourteen. Daddy said I came home and looked all around like I had never really seen the place. We still laugh at that. Sunday was always visiting time after church. I feel like your Sunday talks continue that tradition and bond us together as online distant relatives. I think that might be the beauty and draw of Appalachia. Making people feel like family is an old old practice around here. Have a nice week ahead and enjoy this restful time before the holidays start.
Will you all still do the popsicles talks, inside when the cold weather begins? I really enjoy the videos. We got an inch and a half of rain, finally, after a hot, dry drought. I loved watching it fall. It was like I could tell how happy the trees, grass, flowers, animals were. 🌺🌼🌻🌳🌈🐝🦋🦗🐿️🐇
Sure a lot of green trees up behind you when ya'll were sitting in that ol' chair. Sittin' and listening to you Tipper and Matt, reminded me of being around my own family when I was a child. My folks would chat and laugh. I never really understood them being I was so young. Yet I remember that feeling of family. I cherish those long ago times. Nice visit with you both, thanks. 😊
I'm in upstate NY. Our apples have come in well. I was travelling through the country earlier this month, and saw a farmstand with an abundance of squash, hubbards, too.
Oh, we had a big crow in our back yard this morning…we never have them. We have a big hock that visits each year. You are talking about the Jessie Stewart, an author that I like lives in our area. We pass his museum some times 4 or 5 times a week. They are making some kind of camp ground or something on his property, just about 15 miles from our house.
I so envy that "nasturtium colony' !!! Here in Texas, I plant them and they look nice (never big as yours, nor so abundant) and then July happens. They do not love this TX heat, but they're wonderful to see while they last. Husband munches them right up like a 🐇, just loves what he calls a 'peppery' taste. THANK YOU Tipper & Matt, as always! 💞 🙌🏼
I guess I did well, I married a Gayla, I really enjoy Matt’s stories how he hated school. Ok ! Tipper, Matt is tired of that one seater. lol .. Good job ! Pressley’s.. Good stuff.
Well, Matt is hitting all my marks in this video. I was smart enough, and school bored me all to tears, too. I hated going. Also, I love apples, but those peels have to go. Same with pears and peaches! I'm in Texas now and can not find boiled peanuts here. Every time I visit my folks back east, I find a stand. Thanks for my Sunday smiles.
Tipper I could listen to you talk all day. The things you talk about are usually amusing and always interesting. My mom was like that. Matt is also fun to listen to. He has a down home sense of humor I grew up with and miss so much. Keep the chair. 😆
Seems just like yesterday you folks working on planting all those beans. I had to laugh about the glasses story; it brought to mind when my own son was 6 yrs. old he through his brand new pair of glasses down the sewer on the way home from school because some boy in school called him four-eyes.
Love this every Sunday evening. Hopefully this coming week the temperature falls to more like fall weather. Looks like you're going to have some beans in the fall. I planted some broccoli, carrots and garlic a few weeks ago. Of course, garlic for next year. Broccoli and carrots are doing good. I have them in raised beds so easy to water. Thanks, Tipper, for a wonderful Sunday evening video.
I'm enjoying all your green, but soon have to change the green Heart to orange. Another great visit, Thank you both. God Bless. 💚&🙏🙏'ers & love to all. Jean
My husband and I just got done watching you make a pumpkin roll. We love your channel. You are so amazing. I make my husband watch the end of all your videos where you all are helping each other wash the dishes and clean the kitchen. My husband never help me so I'm hoping he'll learn something from this. Lol
My friends mom died yesterday so I went to the wake last night. I came back late and started watching your video and I fell asleep. Woke up with the cellphone in my hand and first thing in the morning, rewatched the whole thing. You two are great. God is good! I wish our school system was wiser and could recognize the needs of our students. Everything is not for everyone. The purpose is school is not suffering and torture. There should be options for all kids to thrive and learn different things in different ways. God bless you Tipper, Matt and all the family. Love from far away. ❤️🇨🇷
Always look forward to your Sunday video…❤ funny story about Matt throwing away his glasses when he was young😂😂 h y’all have a great week…hope you get some rain
When I was growing up my grandparents had a huge, beautiful chestnut tree on the edge of their property. I remember picking up the fallen chestnuts and eat them. As much I have tried to like them, I have never been able to stand the taste of boiled peanuts. I love peanuts any other way, but you, Matt and Granny can eat my share! 😉
Matt I had trouble with school. Is found out in third grade. I was partially deaf. In ninth grade, I found out.I have dyslexic. So I spent most of my life struggling. Trying to make good grades and couldn't do it.. I did my best. And help my Mom, Who Is blind. So I had to take over the cookie and cleaning the house. I was the only girl.
It’s been cool in the mornings but hot in the middle of the day here in middle Georgia. We need rain too. Praying y’all get some rain soon. It’s suppose to cool off here this week, I sure hope the weather lady is right! . Would you please pray for our sweet friend, Melissa who had an emergency C-section today, 6 weeks before her baby girl was due. The baby is in the NICU and doing ok. Melissa had developed pre-eclampsia and she is in critical condition. She and her husband have two boys who are 10 and 5. The 5 year old is severely disabled and can’t speak. This family needs lots of prayers! Thank you for praying.
We've still got crickets and grasshoppers going here in New Hampshire, but they are slowing down as the nights get colder. It really is a sign of fall coming, even if they do start in late August. Garden plants here look like they are on their last leg, too, but the days are warm, so they look about where yours are: hanging in there. The trees are vibrant with color, though, and in about two weeks we probably won't have any leaves left. It's so interesting to watch and see the similarities and differences in our two climates. Love the glasses in the dumpster story! Matt sounds like my Dad or my brother.
We call the yellow and white bean a golden eye pea, like black eye or pink eye peas, I’ve never had any fresh, only dried and they were really hard to find and expensive in my area, but recently believe it or not I saw them for sale in Ingles, dried in a bag under the store brand, Laura Lynn. I have not tried them to see if they are as good as the dried ones I’ve bought at farm stands and the big Asheville farmers market, but I was pleasantly surprised to find them in the grocery store, and no more expensive than a pinto. Such a joy to be able to grow your own 😊😊
I absolutely love your chats together. I look forward every Sunday waiting for you both❤. I just have to tell you, when Matt talked about school, I’m right there with him!! I think I fall in the middle of Matt and you. I did graduate with OK grade’s, but I hated every minute of going to school. 💕🙏🙏
We will definitely try the pepper spray next year on our cucumbers. Matt I'm with you I absolutely hated school lol still do. Lol when we took the boys and had to go to school with them lol like I had flashbacks. We are working on our garden clean up. Take care God bless. Hope y'all have a great week.
I wish I could find some Virginia Beauty apples. Growing up we had a tree on our farm and they were so good. I have a friend that has a tree but hers have not done much the past 2 years. We love mashed potatoes with our sauerkraut and wieners and of course cornbread. 😊 I’m not too fond of boiled peanuts but love them otherwise. Tipper I thought that crow sounded like he was opening up a jar of pickles also. 😂 Thanks for the visit.
❤I Enjoyed Your Video & Always Love Popsicle Time with You Tipper & Matt..Both Your Stories are Such Remembrance For Me of Times When My Dad would Tell of His Youth and a Different Time.. Later Mom would Talk of Her Years Growing Up. ❤ I haven't Been Listening To Your Book Reading on Friday's I can Never Stay Away.. I will As a Running Time. I Appreciate Your Time with Us. ❤So Happy Granny Had a GOOD REPORT!!❤
It takes Cosmos all summer long to bloom. Mine are now all in full bloom! I planted butternut squash for the first time and thankfully I got lots of those.
I had just about decided to stop planting zinnias this year, because no matter which packets of seeds I get at the store (I always go for the thumbelinas) they always turn out 3 feet tall and all leggy. But then I noticed this year that the hummingbirds were feeding off them, so I guess I'll keep putting them in along with the yellow marigolds and the bee balm.

Ms. Tipper, the only way I passed Algebra 1 and 2 was by memorizing the equations. I can't remember a single thing about it. I also found out many years later I had mild dyslexia. @@CelebratingAppalachiaYou're welcome.😊
Loved the video Matt and Tipper ❤️ Shelby
When I was growing up my grandparents had a huge, beautiful chestnut tree on the edge of their property. I remember picking up the fallen chestnuts and eat them. As much I have tried to like them, I have never been able to stand the taste of boiled peanuts. I love peanuts any other way, but you, Matt and Granny can eat my share! 😉
I can't stand the flavor of boiled peanuts either. I enjoy Tippers and Matt's Sunday chats too.
Matt I had trouble with school. Is found out in third grade. I was partially deaf. In ninth grade, I found out.I have dyslexic. So I spent most of my life struggling. Trying to make good grades and couldn't do it.. I did my best. And help my Mom, Who
Is blind. So I had to take over the cookie and cleaning the house. I was the only girl.
A very delightful video❤
You have a beautiful place
Thank you!
I feel for you Matt! I tend to lose my glasses by mysterious means several times a month. So far I've been fortunate enough to find them!!
Such a nice visit! I always enjoy listening to the happenings that are going on with you and Matt and the family. Always so peaceful and fun. 😃
Thank you so much!
Late cherry tomatoes are always nice to find. Stay safe!

Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you 😊
I like each volunteer plant surprise!!! 👏👏👏👏
I will pray for Melissa and her family.
@@CelebratingAppalachia Thank you!
I’m joining in prayer here in Costa Rica. 🙏❤️
@@mariadewey4369 thank you! The prayers of many are surely heard by God.
@@triciatinker9456 I am absolutely sure of that. ❤️🙏 God is good!
Such a joy to be able to grow your own 😊😊
It’s great you still have a garden that’s still producing. Good eatin for the winter!
I absolutely love your chats together. I look forward every Sunday waiting for you both❤. I just have to tell you, when Matt talked about school, I’m right there with him!! I think I fall in the middle of Matt and you. I did graduate with OK grade’s, but I hated every minute of going to school. 💕🙏🙏
oh, how I love the sound of crickets.
Yeah, until you have them in your garage or house, lol
Thank you for sharing for everyone to see 🙏
Our pleasure!
Awesome cool video thumbs up. The flowers are pretty.
Hope y’all have a good one too!!
Hi Tipper and Matt I just became a new member and I am so excited. I have been following you for years and I am also a new member.
Thank you Kim 😊 We appreciate you!!
Always enjoy your set and talks
the one seater talk just cracked me up!!!!!!
❤I Enjoyed Your Video & Always Love Popsicle Time with You Tipper & Matt..Both Your Stories are Such Remembrance For Me of Times When My Dad would Tell of His Youth and a Different Time.. I Appreciate Your Time with Us. ❤So Happy Granny Had a GOOD REPORT!!❤
Thank you so much!
