When you asked what a phonograph record was, I thought Lord I’m old😂.
The performances are amazing on this song, but the song itself is brilliant in the way the lyrics work to tell a "cover story" and yet also give you enough pieces to put together what really happened. It's like watching a classic western.
Ray Charles did a whole album of duets with other musicians too. It's called genius loves. This duet is off that album.
True thing this was my grandfather’s favorite song it always makes me cry cause he passed i was 7y.o. and was not meant to survive my first year of living so he called me his lil angel

I know you guys like Travis Tritt. Years ago before Ray died, he recorded and played with Travis on several occasions. Ray was quoted in an interview calling Travis ‘an old soul in a young country rocker.’ The only thing I saw on RUclips was Movin’ On but you should check it out. It’s a live performance.
Also, if you weren’t aware, Ray always loved country music. He recorded more than one full country music album if you’re curious to check out more. I think I Can’t Stop Loving You was one of his country music releases. ♥️

This was recorded on the set of Austin City Limits... a music program filmed in Austin Texas... Both Ray and Willie are legions... and both are DEEEP rabbit holes for you to explore. Willie was writing songs in the late 50s (Patsy Cline's Crazy for one) so he has been around quite a while!
A good song is by Alabama - Angels Among Us but watch the one where he is on a stage by himself U will absolutely love that one i promise

Your baby is beautiful. First time we've ever been able to see anything but her little back and butt, so thanks for showing her off. As for this haunting song, I believe the Seven Spanish Angels represent the seven angels who stood before the throne of God in the Book of Revelation. And I think Willie was just being cute when he said they were going to make a "phonograph record." I believe phonographs were already archaic by the time this was recorded, but I could be wrong. Love you guys.
