I am 43. I am attempting to save five or six grand in two or three months. I started de-cluttering my living space on my own. I am half-way through de-cluttering on my own. I am taking initiative. I am saving for a used SUV.

Yes, I always make enough for at least 2 meals. Sometime during the week I make a batch of hard boiled eggs, steam a big pot of broccoli, and bake a tray of chicken thighs. That way, I don't have to cook every day.

I learned about money because I started working while in H.S., purchased all my own clothes, and saved money.
Another tip is once you pay off debt, keep paying it to a savings account.
Or emergency fund.
Or, divvy up the payment to emergency fund, investment, savings
One thing that has saved me money is to stay out of the stores unless I need something. I have been keeping track since the end of February and I have been spending only about 2 thirds of my biweekly budget. I saved over $300.

I retired 3 weeks ago. My husband is still working (he loves his job!), and i have an income coming in from an investment. So im in a unique situation. I understand i can't go crazy with money, but im going to enjoy every day. I've lost 85 lbs over the past year. So it's my time to shine! We just got back from a week trip. ** My frugal tip is... plan your trips by having as much paid for in advance as possible. Flight, hotel, rental car (or start putting money on your uber account till you build that up) tickets for shows. The more you have paid for in advance, the less stress and more time to experience things. Start an envelope for eating out or buying groceries on your trip. We like eating out on vacation because we never do at home. Get cash ahead of time for tips! Im really good at planning low cost SUPER fun vacations. 🎉🎉🎉🎉

I am a widow now so I can plan all my money things (I am a saver, my husband was not). I have a credit card with good travel mile benefits, so I charge everything. I keep absolute great records on what I spend and pay it off every month. I'm seriously thinking about charging a car next month because my son was involved in an accident. I have the money saved. (He has already paid me back). Gotta check if that will fly. I have saved enough money over the last few years. I think about of all the frequent flyer miles that might be worth!
I paid for my used car with cash when it was 2 yo. It’s now 8 yo and running like a champ. I’m currently saving for when I have to replace it. As a single person I have always lived frugally. My dad taught me a bout sinking funds when I was in high school (since I had a pt job). Invaluable. He also taught me when I got my first credit card at 23 to ALWAYS pay the balance each month. And I too take frugal vacations. These things have helped me to be financially stable even when I had periods of underemployment. Also allowed me to buy my first condo and pay off quickly. Now I just pay cash for my home. All you lovely single ladies- you can do it!!! 🙌🏻 🤗

For me the book was "Your Money or Your Life" that turned my husband and myself into frugal folks about 30 years ago. Now as a widow, i continue to be frugal. I save money mowing my own lawn (takes about 1 1/2 hours with a walk behind mower and is quite the workout), i bag my clippings to use in my compost, then the following spring I add the compost to my vegetable garden, and during the summer and fall, I eat the vegetables and can and freeze them. Cycle of life!
I am a single senior. I recently recently divorced and I just retired. So I have really been changing the way I spend money. I made two phone calls and saved almost $1000 between Mint Mobile and AAA homeowners and auto insurance. I kept my heat down this winter and I’m staying home and cutting my own grass. I bought the same mower last year. Thanks for the reminder of having people over to save money. I always liked going to peoples homes more than going out to a restaurant since the pandemic. I just need to clean up my deck and patio.

Changing my diet has changed my life. I shop less, I cook less, I save more and I feel better than ever. ( low to no carbs) looking forward to my lab work next month! Also, setting up savings “buckets” for Taxes, Insurance, Gifts/ Christmas, Utilizing Fetch App & Reward points on my CC for Gift cards, AND zeroing out my CC balance (never pay a penny of interest!) using automated bill pay and savings has made life in this economy doable.
Groceries are minimal and buying either bulk or sales for meats is keeping ahead of the game.
No junk food on the list. Buying only the produce we eat it that week ( no waste) helps.
Planning as much as possible ahead is key. But being Debt Free is everything. Knowing your numbers for your expenses and not avoiding them or ignoring them helps you make informed decisions and have less pain down the road. ❤️ it is a process and a learning curve…we all go through it. 👍🏼

Congratulations, as I’m a work in progress. How do you cut out carbs or low carbs. Because my numbers are off.
@jaderoyale-brown stop eating grain products, bread, pastas, snacks except for nuts or cheese, and no drinks except water and unsweetened tea or coffee. Low to no carbs. Basically, don't eat prepackaged foods. If it is sold at the store in a box, you probably shouldn't eat it... Fresh fruits and vegetables are OK if you are doing low carb. If you want no carb, forget fruits and veges, eat only protein foods and drink plenty of water. Oh, and the fattiest cuts of meat are actually the most filling and nutritious according to Dr. Berry's videos. I checked him out and he is a real doctor. Of course, you can look him up on the internet as well, if it will up your confidence in this "proper human diet" as he calls it... Good luck, have fun!

Once you're out of debt, there will be so much relief....A new freedom. This is when you get that 6 month emergency fund and start investing. DO NOT EVER get into DEBT for anything.

My best friend continued making car payments (into savings) after she actually paid off the loan. She has been able to pay cash outright for every car that she owned since.

I like to gather up rain checks! During the last day of grocery sales stores often run out of flyer deals. Go that evening and get rain checks for the future when you will need that product even if you don’t need it now. Saves a lot of money!

@@christinelarkin2361 It's a piece of paper saying you can purchase a particular item at the discounted sale price, even after the sale is over, because the store ran out of the item during the sale period. You redeem it later (as you would a coupon) when the item comes back in stock.
When I first moved to Portland OR when I was 53 years old, I realized that they had a robust bicycle community. As a fun social experiment I parked my car for a month and biked everywhere. After the first two weeks I never even thought of my car at all. I ran the numbers and realized that getting rid of my car would save me almost $6K a year. I thought I might rent a car every so often but I've only done it about twice a year. I do take a Lyft ride about once or twice a week as an indulgence but the cost of doing that is radically cheaper than owning a car. I know it's not for everyone but really since I got rid of my car in 2008 it's been amazing. Not every city can support this but do give some thought to thinking out of the box.
I wish that was possible here in Southern California, but ppl drive like homicidal maniacs here so for me it would be too risky. I'd really like an electric bike but even that wouldn't be safe enough, not to mention it would probably be ripped off the first time you left it. California is not a bike friendly state.
The #1 issue i see for singles is that all too often they are encouraged one way or another to hold off on the possessions, activities, and financial provisions deemed necessary necessary for the intact, 2 parent family of 2.4 children and a dog. Singles can and should enjoy a diet of wholesome, home cooked foods from scratch prepared with a quality knife and eaten on/ with real dishware at a real table; cloth napkins over paper saves money in the single household as well as the multi person household. Without using credit card based entitlement, singles deserve a comfortable mattress and something besides upturned milk crates or 5 gallon buckets in the home furnishing department. The same goes for all aspects of socio-economic lifestyle and money allocations. What singles with 2 pennies to rub together need to watch out for is using shopping for your social interaction and those fleeting moments of impulse buying glee.

I'm single and I don't live like that. My single friends don't either.
We makes home cook meals and freeze them.
We freeze cooked meats and every day we pop one in our portable electric food warmer with vegetable and a grain. We warm it up 1 hr before lunch at work.
We bring water to work and a fruit. We don't skimp on eating quality foods. We buy organic from Whole Foods, Trader Joes or WaWalmart organic sections.
Our homes are nicely decorated. We own our homes and they are paid off before 30 years in case we get sick or lose our jobs. We prepaid billa and keep one year expense account separate from emergency funds. All cars are purchase cash. We eat off China plates. No paper plates in our homes.
We live frugally but aren't mean to our selves. Vacations is usually at a 5 star holiday . My friends and I won't stay anywhere if the rooms are less than our bedrooms at home.
We drive simple reliable cars like civics or Corollas.
Cars are just transportation.
We don't live like the singles you describe. Those may be struggling singles. We stay connected to our extended families especially siblings and their children. They will be our heirs.

Lots of small changes can accumulate. Tuesday is the cheapest day to buy gas. Avoid filling up right before holidays. I take care of my own yard. Push mower, electric weed whacker. Do what you can manage.
I paid my car off last summer. I make sure to be proactive about getting oil changes and if something seems wrong with my car getting it checked out I want to keep this car until it doesn’t run anymore. I know you asked for something about saving money. I feel like this is saving money because I’m not having to buy a more expensive car and I’m not having to pay for repairs if I can help it.

I own a 2005 Honda Pilot and it has served me well. I keep up on the maintenance. It has almost 300,000 miles on it and I am looking forward to when it reaches that milestone. The maintenance has always been cheaper than a car payment.
It is. I had a car 17 years old, still ran great, only got rid of because of age and very high mileage and had to drive through a long stretch of scary deserted places, and another long stretch of very high crime places carrying cash with my young kid in the back. Changed the oil and had it checked if I thought there might be a problem.
I need some advice! I have a car loan of about $20,000 with 5.9% interest rate. Also have. hELCO loan of $40,000 with a variable interest rate of 9.5%. I want to try to pay one down faster so should I put my extra money on the car or HELOC?
@@nancyh1892 if I were you, I’d work on paying the car off. That is unless you planning on selling your house soon. That way you’ll get the title and that will be something that you own outright. I doubt they’re going to raise interest rates anymore so hopefully your variable HELOC will come down in interest.
Once again another EXCELLENT video with invaluable advice (especially for the beginning savers). On the subject of lawn maintenance...when I bought my house 19 years ago I bought a brand new gas push mower (middle of the road price-wise). I still use that same mower today. The only thing that is REALLY important to do each year is on that final cut of the season, make sure you run the gas out to nothing. If any gas is left in the tank, it fouls up internal parts and makes a financial burden.

For those of us who are disabled and dual eligible Medicare Medicaid renting might actually be a smarter financial move. We get a stipend that pays about 2 months worth of my rent a year that can't be used on a mortgage. No lawn Care, minimal garbage care, for those of us who have very limited energy renting might be better.
Only enter stores when you have a list of items you need- I usually allow one or two unexpected items. It really helps to get you in and out. I can usually get out of target in 15 minutes or less.
I have so many ways of being frugal. First is multiple high yield online savings accounts. Second, we bought two really nice Priuses with cash. Next I buy all our meat on sales or specials. I shop the weekly ads for those specials and also produce specials. I do online order pickup for convenience and also to avoid impulse buys. I also love thrifting and am constantly finding such treasures as cashmere sweaters, wool jackets and silk blouses. I have a mandatory diet so I cook almost every meal. I keep chickens and never have to buy eggs. I also do canning and freezing when produce prices go down in the warmer seasons. I use solar power as much as possible and collect rainwater for gardening use. Whew, I could keep going!! 😂

A way I save money is waiting till the week of Black Friday to subscribe to a streaming service for the black Friday discount and lock the price in for the year, and that way by the time it’s time to expire Black Friday is a week or 2 away and I can just subscribe again at the discount rate.. currently been paying $1 a month for Hulu for the last 3 years and that’s the only streaming service I use as well cause there’s no sense in having multiple streaming channels cause you should be using your leisure time to be more productive and learning instead of trying to entertain yourself, so one streaming company is more than enough… #Love your content Kate and feel free to use this frugal tip in a video if you find it useful beloved ❤

I love having the lawn mower. We got it on FB Marketplace (the guy just bought it for his GF and they broke up, so it was new in box, but STEEPLY discounted). I love that I can use the same battery for our blower and weed whacker (also found on FB marketplace). We don't have a big yard, but we do have a ton of trees out front and the blower is nice to use on our driveway (a lot of Pine needles and pinecones).

One way I save money is to budget every month. In particular, I have a couple items that are variable such as groceries and gas. I do my best to not spend the full amount I budget, anything leftover from those variable items goes toward savings. I have a major goal to pay off my house in the next year, so I am very motivated; and I'm just few years from retirement. Accomplishing paying off my house will make my retirement so much more peaceful, since it will be one less bill to worry about.

I have furnished my home with thrifted items (and have learned simple upholstery and how to re-web chairs in the process).
I flip furniture. When I get tired of a piece of furniture, I resell it. Sometimes all I did was clean it up so I could use it, sometimes I painted, often did small repairs. But I ALWAYS made more money than I originally spent on the piece.
I paid off a 6-year car loan in 3. I’ve had the car almost 10 years and it still going strong. I like to buy new cars because I keep them forever. Last car had 13 years and 250000 miles. Current car only has 90000 miles. It’s good for many more years.
An older car costs less to insure and, in my state, to register. I have a Prius and have saved a lot of money in gas despite the higher initial price of the car.
I spend where it is important to spend, but I spend wisely.
I pretty much always by at sales prices and will wait for a better price.
I shop thrift stores for a lot of things I use: dish wares, glassware, serving items, holiday decor, garden decor, etc. Again, when I get tired of something or replace it, I sell. 98% of my house is furnished in second-hand goods.
The consignment store is my best friend for buying and selling quality items, including clothing, furniture, and housewares.
I use a credit card with cash back for all purchases and RELIGIOSITY pay it off each month.
I waited until I reached full retirement to draw social security. I still work and will use the SS to pad other retirement investments and as a sinking fund.
I finally got a really good financial advisor. Wish I had done this years ago.

Hi Kate, great video, hugs to Kaden. When I was working a lot of overtime for a few years I hired a house cleaner to come every 2 weeks. It cost me $100 for 3 hours. Some months it was $300. I finally had to let her go, because I have been working less for a while. Doing it myself has given me a great feeling, and the house has not been this clean in years.

First time here. just thought I'd mention that a very healthy, and frugal way of eating is the whole food plant based lifestyle. We love it.....endless options without expensive meat and dairy or processed foods. Batch cooking is a time saver too! Good for you starting at a young age....some of us didn't really "get it" until later in life.
I went on the Eat To Live plant based diet and found it to be very easy and thrifty. Stopped it but will go back on it again.
Grocery shopping:
• Shop the weekly ads first and only buy what you know you'll definitely eat
• Shop your rewards points items
•Use the online coupons
• Buy store brand whenever possible
• Get as many rewards points as you can and cash them in as close to the end of the month as possible. Usually they don't roll over into the next month. My supermarket has gas stations so I can cash in my rewards points for discounts per gallon at the pump. I've filled my tank for FREE on numerous occasions.
• Don't do all your grocery shopping at the same store if you can help it. Check other stores for savings. I go to a different store for the healthy juice I like which sell for half the price of my supermarket. The same store has my dog's brand name food for $6 less at their regular price.
• If you have a Grocery Outlet near you, give it a try. I've gotten some great deals there

Excellent video! I've found strictly doing pickup grocery orders, I save a ton on impulse buying! No more cookies or sweets (only occasionally,) no getting lost in the cosmetic dept and buying more nail polish etc I don't need. No more magazines & candybars at the checkout. #2 Tip: Switched to Prepaid Cell Service. If T-Mobile works in your area, try "Tello" that works off T-Mobile towers. I pay $10 a month ($11.34 w/tax) for Unltd Talk, Text & 2GB Data; no contract! Bought a great, new compatible, unlocked Samsung 5G Phone for $175 direct from Samsung, & a good case. Hey not a tip on the channel today, but I've heard this in five videos over the past week. Go paperless and do auto pay. If you get benefits like snap or Medicaid or SSD/I do not go paperless on your main bills like housing utilities phone or bank statements. DHS and social security can ask for copies of your bills at any time

We have done as much as we can as possible ourselves and this has given us a higher economic life stlye than income both when flush and lean. This has required "investment purchases" like Kate's lawn mower; tools, kitchen equipment, craft and hobby items, etc... Another over riding theme has been to consider "operational costs" or the costs to operate and maintain the 4 walls, behicles, tools, and toys. My saying is that if you save enough pennies, you'll have enough money for a Mc Donald's hot fudge Sunday.

I find it sad that so many of us single people have these qualities but can’t find a spouse or significant other or even an accountability partner who shares a like mindset who would be so beneficial to our mindset, our hearts etc. When I watch DR and see some power couples I am jealous of that relationship, but more often than not I hear mostly women calling asking how to get their husbands on board with saving money and paying bills…
We're smarter than them. Men don't like that. I'm n late 60's. Little to no $$$, single and happy. I can't drive, so that saves alot

was married for 28 years. she was disabled the last 2o years. i worked 6 days a week. we were always broke. when she died in her sleep, i learned she paid all the big bills, but she was a shopaholic. ended up with a paid for house,but no money. worst and best day when she died. had more money than i ever had because of simple life style. got a dog for companionship. people relationships are overrated. it does help to be a happy hermit, however. consider local community groups for ''financial partners''. they are out there. good luck!
I was raised in a female dominant family of 10 sisters and 18 aunties. Some were married and few stayed single. I work in community healthcare. I'm in people's homes frequently due to my job.I've seen good marriages and bad ones. There is so much women have to put up with from men just to stay married. Marriage is not what women who desire a husband thinks it is.
There should be classes for men on how to be husbands. The "good" ones could improve and the bad ones could really learn the process.

The way I saved money is got rid of cable bought a Ruku and have internet only. I work from home so I do have to have that. I buy local fruits and vegetables stands or you pick um and try to eat more veggies they are healthier and cheaper anyway.
I sell on eBay to coupons and buy my clothes and extra food and personal stuff a side hustle helps you not depend on credit cards and yours pay check yiu are very smart

I also pay my car insurance in two lump sums. I use Ally Bank, and I’ve found it useful to use the Buckets available in their savings and spending accounts. I have a bucket for car insurance and I typically build up the amount each month to the set “goal” amount which is the cost of the insurance. Works really well to have saved a little overtime to then be able to pay in the lump sum when the time comes.
I belong to a meetup ladies group, but I'm selective to do only 1 dinner or happy hour a month. We also went to a Total Wine - wine tasting for $20 with some snacks.

Money advice is so helpful and will change your life. I'm 47 single and debt and mortgage free I travel and live and amazing life. Work hard play hard. It's definitely not easy but so so worth it. Hard work grinding pays off. Good on you. Don't be like everyone else!!

We buy skim milk powder and make yogurt from scratch at the press of a button! This can save hundreds of dollars a year and it’s healthier for you!
Recently I started making a gallon of milk by dumping in a 12 oz can of evaporated milk and filling with filtered water. I use it mostly for my dogs and kitties, but I wondered if I could make cheese and yogurt out of it. I know you can't use frozen milk for farmer's cheese so wondered if the canning process might negatively affect cheese making.
its by design that they dont teach anyone anything about money in the schools....great advice on paying off car....I'm still driving my 2007 toyota camry....only 82k miles....don't drive alot...just locally....will drive it forever hopefully...:)
i am not sure if mowing your lawn with a battery powered mower will save you money long term if you include your time as well. hopefully the battery will last a while before you need to change it. best not to leave it in a hot storage spot like a shed with the sun hitting it.
