Really interesting video! I have a Micheal Kelly that I've owned for 9 years. I've never had it setup and it needs it! The frets are large like this one you worked on. It plays and sounds good for the price range but after acquiring a nice old gibson I can really feel how hard it is to fret. I'd be happy for you to work on it! It is my jam mando and it would be great to have it play better!
I expect you already know this, but just in case, StewMac makes a special pair of pliers for widening the tang if the fit is sloppy. The jaws look like miniature pinking shears. Thumbs up to crush a troll.
Very nice work.... but just as you said theres no fretbuzz, it sounded like there was.... could be clipping or my fone though. Very enjoyable informative video, and enjoy your written comments after you've said something 👍👍👍peace from Rome👍🇬🇧
Should be an industry wide rule that every instrument comes from the factory with a good setup. We will never know how many potentially great players gave up because a student-level instrument was too hard to play. I stopped playing for a while in my early years because of this. I deeply regret the lost time.
It also annoys me that a setup is usually included in the price, if you buy it in a real music store (at least around here) -- IF you ask for it! Nobody ever told me to ask for it. Of course, some stores do it anyway, but many don't.
You have only got to look in a local pawn shop or face book ebay to see how many give up because of poor badly set up guitars dont get me wrong there are some decent shops out there that want your custom on a regular basses not just a one off it and then dont care them shops or stores dont seem to last long any way
Hello Jerry. Love your vidoes because you explain it so nicely. I was considering one of these but did not realize they used such large frets. What size do would you say they are? Did you measure the height and width of the wire they used? It would be interesting to know if this is what they use on all their mandolins. Thanks for any info.
I’ve done a level and crown on my electric guitars (and one acoustic) and went all the way up to 2000 grit then polished with a dremel to a mirror finish which makes string bending much smoother and plays like the proverbial “buttah”. I guess it’s of little benefit on a mandolin? I’m curious though, what is the market value of that mandolin in comparison to what you charged for the refret?
Jerry: Wanna hear a great mando intro? Download "Rosie Jones" by Quick Silver? Featuring Steve Gullen. Lawson nails the mando intro. Song was written by Buck Owens. Try it you'll like it as a mando player.
Good Job Jerry as usual, I want too ask you a question I mean no disrespect But why dont you heat the frets when your pulling them out?? Your the only person I have seen that doesnt heat the frets duiring removal. Man I could see the tailpeice was off center that would bother the hell out of me too, I know it wasnt your fault & you couldnt move it without realigning the neck also. But you are quite the craftsman I hope too be half as good as you some day. Thanks Jerry God Bless
Just never learned to do it that way. Doesn't make a lot of common sense to me. It doesn't take much heat at all to expand brass quite a bit. So it's just going to be tighter in the slot.
Jerry: What's your take on mando "cross picking" ala Jesse McReynolds. Great example is Jim & Jesse doing "Memory of you". "I turned the key in your lock tonite, and walked slowly in the room". That one!

"Gee Whiz!" I think that is a term that needs to be brought back en masse! Thanks, Jerry!
Another great makeover. My day is always made when a Rosa repair video goes up!
I love watching Rosa, learning lots and the tips and techniques are so helpful in my retirement hobby...
Nice work Jerry, that mandolin sounds nice!
Nice set up...I enjoy watching you work...Thanks for sharing.
Good job Jerry. That’s the third MK dragonfly mandolin I’ve seen with the neck set crooked in the body.🇺🇸
Another pleasant and informative view.I particularily enjoyed the music overdubs.
I couldn't resist to crack a smile when you described the strange spacing anticipating the new nut ;o)
Thanks for the video Jerry. Please keep them coming.
Nice job on the string positioning problem - SOOO much better !!

Great work! I also enjoyed the background music - I like it!
He should buy a new Mandolin. And sell this headack to someone else . Thanks for sharing your video. I hope you have a blessed summer.
Awesome, as usual, Jerry!
that's a good idea on that tool you made! man that mando seems to be really loud!

Great idea with the fret radius bender Gerry there so expensive to buy for what they are
Good video Jerry!!!!!!!!!!!)))🎸🎸🎸👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼😊
I had a Michael Kelly Dragonfly but didn't like the inlay that I found distracting. It had a good pickup.
Good job Sounds good!
Thanks. Very informative.
. . IMO, Michael Kelley should pay her Bill! Cheers

Tall or jumbo frets are great for guitar, but for mandolins I would think are way to big, great job Jerry
Jerry: I doubt mando star, Herschel Sizemore would like hi frets!!!!

Enjoyed the set up but curious as to why it didn't get a Antler saddle? Thx for the video Doc.
Already over budget

I would think that heating them really only helps if they’ve been glued in .
The original string spacing was atrocious. I'm sure the customer appreciated you fixing a major manufacturing oversight.

Awesome 👍
Perfick!

Sounds about par with SM prices lol
No thanks🤣
you can use a capodastre when you glue the frets??
Rosa: Give us a link to your T Shirt source. PLEASE.
