      In what way is he competent, apart from representing his union members? He hasn't run a public service such as a railway, or indeed any service. He hasn't been an MP. Its a completely different thing. He has got some good ideas but he has no idea how things would be paid for because he doesn't actually care as long as his members get paid.

      As a representative of one of those unions that fund the Labour Party, we had one of those conversations yesterday. The consensus was to keep funding them, because the alternative is a Tory government. Whilst we don't agree with the direction Labour is taking right now, we hope that our affiliations can continue to try change that direction going forward. Opinions are very split though and if Keir Starmer reverses some of his promises, we will find more and more unions unwillingly withdraw their support.

    Mick Lynch is a clear thinking, articulate guy. Pity he's a Brexiteer, but that's his view.
    Renationalise ALL utilities, water, gas, electricity and all public services including the railways and buses. If the shareholders want compensation, inform them that if they push for it, they'll be prosecuted for insider trading and their assets will be seized as 'proceeds of crime'.
    I know, I know, "We have to be realistic, that's just the dream of a pipe." Of course it is, we've allowed ourselves to become accepting of national scale legalised asset stripping as "Just the way it is", and we no longer have the ability to imagine any better than we've had fed to us for decades.
    If we can't imagine better, perhaps we don't deserve it.

    Mick Lynch talks so much sense he is right about the need for more fairness in society. He is a good speaker but his first and only job at the moment is to look after the interests of his own union members. If he ever became an MP he would soon discover that politics is the art of the possible. English voters, in the main, are conservative and the more "socialist" policies become, even though they and the whole Country may benefit from them, they are conditioned by historical social levels.
    In some country areas it is almost a remnant of serfdom (JRM voters come to mind) These conservatives are encouraged on a daily basis, by reading and viewing the Tory client media, to accept Tory government policies that are to their detriment

    Maybe they don't need the unions anymore?

      If that's the case the unions will withdraw their financial support. Most of Labour's income comes from trades unions.

      Only time will tell. Might find some nice fat donors. Give the unions the brush off. I will vote for Labour. I'm old and cynical though. I just hope Starmer doesn't f us over...

      That would likely cause a new left wing party to grow, further splitting the left vote.

    If the Unions realised this by now, they'd cut the funding. It's not that difficult.

      @jgmediting7770 11 месяцев назад

      As far as I’m aware, most of them have cut funding to the bare minimum required to remain a member of the party. They need to take a further step and break away to form a new party. I think the cooperative party would be apt for a left wing party name.

    Mick Lynch is great but Brexit is haemorrhaging money from the UK which that is one of the reasons that we are in so much incredible dept. Mick was very supportive of Brexit so he partly has himself to blame. If we had that money that we have lost and continue to lose, we could have afforded to buy back some of our privatised companies. Labour won't touch Brexit because the majority of the press will eviscerate any party that supports the EU.

    • @jgmediting7770
      @jgmediting7770 11 месяцев назад

      Brexit was never the problem. The interests in charge of brexit has always been the problem. And that money would never have been used to do what you say.

    Not all Trade Unions are left wing and likewise not all Trade Unionists are Left wing which is why many Unions are not affiliated. Trade Unions cover a wide range of opinions. Their job is to represent their members not the Labour Party.

      RMT disaffiliated from Labour during their last government due to Blair being too Thatcherite. They almost reaffiliated under the last leader, but of course, the Labour right stopped him.

      Trade Unions by their very nature came from left ideology, and Labour itself was formed out of the unions. Where do you think the name comes from?

    • @lotoreo
      @lotoreo 11 месяцев назад

      Trade Unions are THE definition of Left Wing politics. The Downtrodden, the 99%, poor and marginalized people coming together to fight for their interests against the rich elite masters IS the left wing.

    12 minutes of intelligent debate...get a tory or LABOUR politician on and it's just zzzzzzz'ds 😴😴😴 i think we're all gonna be sorely disappointed with starmers labour...his ambition seems to be don't upset the racists...let's hope once he has power he shows he is a real socialist...lol just kidding we know what he is but what comes after the disappointment...that's the worrying thing.
