Don't know how anyone can really compare the two. The D sets have yet to convey any paying passengers, whereas the Waratahs have been in service for a number of years. Or that D sets are intended for longer distance runs. Fails to mention that D sets have 2+2 seating, whereas Waratahs have 3+2. When they replace the current Oscars with their horribly uncomfortable seating on longer distance runs, the D sets make nearly half the passengers sit backward on a full train, a factor that many hate.

How can you say the D-sets are more comfortable when they haven't taken a single paying passenger yet?

I am a semi-frequent user of the Blue Mountains line and let's just say I'm not looking forward to the prospect of facing backwards for much of that journey.

Queue all the people telling you they have irreversible seats overseas and it's fine. To be clear, I'm not one of those people and agree with you.

I thought I'd just correct you on a few things:
    - Waratah's are actually quite comfortable as the air-conditioning is top-notch and lighting is perfect too.
    - The Waratah's deserve a higher rating for seating as they're reversable, not to mention that high-backed seating on the Mariyung's, whilst nice, can get annoying after some time.
    - Trainspotters actual opinions on the two trains are that D sets are generally quite ugly and lack anything iconic, not to mention their various safety issues, whereas the Waratah's, whilst being too frequent, are quite nice. The main problem with the Waratah's is just that there's not enough variety of trains left as the majority are Waratah's.
    - More credit should have been given to the D sets in safety/accessibility for the colour of the doors being a distinct orange which is great for those who are visually impaired or even colour blind, also including the little orange streaks halfway down the doors which is also a big benefit for the same reasons.
    - The padding on the Waratah's are actually quite thick and there's even been concerns for how thin the padding on the D sets allegedly are.
To sum it all up, I personally believe Waratah's are better not only by opinion but factually.

air conditioning on waratahs is NOT good 😭
they use that silly auto air-conditioning that makes it so the temperature inside is always warmer than the outside? (as I've heard)
other than that these points are valid 👍

@@peterelvery I used to commute via G set Tangaras twice daily many years ago and I can confirm that the AC was draughty and way too cold - Especially if sitting at a window seat on the bottom level. Some of us brought small blankets with us each day... even in Summer. Just horrible. The seats were better than Oscars though.
