This is only true if you are a PR or citizen.
Being a temporary resident/foreigner in Australia and pregnant, i have no access to Medicare, hence very expensive - even with my private insurance.
All outpatient appointments related to pregnancy is out of pocket. GP costs $40-100/visit, OB and midwifecosts $365/visit at RWH. Ultrasound cost $230/procedure.

Does anybody that doesn't have health insurance go for opt in for private care in the end would that still roughly be around 5k or would that end up being significantly higher ?

This is so misleading. Of course it’s not expensive for a heterosexual couple. This video is not inclusive at all. There’s not just two options, public or private. What about same sex couples? Single parent child birth by choice? Upwards of $10K just at a chance at getting pregnant. Medications, injections, specialist appointments, fertility appointments etc.

The 2016 Census indicated that only 0.9% of couples in Australia are same-sex couples, so I think it's a bit much to call this five-minute video misleading and exclusive.
