    ----------------
    For the past 10 years, the reality TV show Shark Tank has entertained and edified millions of viewers by dramatizing how entrepreneurs pitch venture capitalists. And none of the "sharks"-the investors who compete with each other to fund businesses they think will be successful-is more entertaining or edifying than Kevin O'Leary, whose signature insult to unsuccessful contestants-"You're Dead To Me"-has become a pop culture catchphrase.
    But O'Leary isn't just a small-screen blowhard. Born and raised in Canada, the 65-year-old investor got rich by developing educational and family-oriented computer software in the 1980s and '90s and holding firm to a gospel of thrift, savings, and reinvestment that he's outlined in best-selling books such as Cold Hard Truth on Men, Women, and Money. Over the years, he's diversified his investments into vineyards, storage facilities, and more, and he's dabbled in politics, too, briefly considering a run in 2017 to head the Conservative Party in Canada. His brash nature earned him easy comparisons to Donald Trump but O'Leary, who lives in Boston, is openly free trade and pro-immigration. He's long been in favor of marijuana legalization and gay rights and opposed to military interventionism.
    Nick Gillespie sat down with O'Leary at FreedomFest, the annual gathering of libertarians in Las Vegas. They talked about why Shark Tank is so popular, why Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is so bad, and whether "democratic socialism" is really a threat to the free market capitalism that O'Leary says makes us richer and happier. They also discussed why O'Leary thinks Donald Trump has been great for the economy despite a personal style so many, including O'Leary himself, find unappealing.
    Interview by Nick Gillespie. Edited by Ian Keyser. Intro by Mark McDaniel.

    When I first started watching Shark Tank, Kevin was my least favorite because I found him to be rude with no compassion. As the episodes and seasons passed, and I personally got involved in business and investing, he became my favorite. I realized he doesn't tell you what you want to hear, he tells you what you need to hear. He doesn't bullshit, he doesn't sugarcoat his message, he tells you how it is. This was a GREAT interview!

      O'Leary is as big an ASSHOLE as Trump and Reason TV. Their "profit comes first" mentality gets in the way of HUMAN PROGRESS. But they can give a s*%t about long term human progress so long as they fill their fat little pudgy hands with short term monopoly money.

      That's part of his charm on "Shark Tank" is the fact he isn't absolutely stone hearted, but he's not emotions first.
      He says what he thinks and he's clear about who he is.
      He loves a good story, but he'd rather have a great storyteller, because those make money.

      Holy crap, I'm rich!
      Reality... the market sets the values and human progress is guided by the most practical and valuable in most cases.
      Government is clueless, capitalism is the best way to move things forward.
      Famously, Hong Kong was a broke as a joke rock, and now it's rockin' big time!

      To each according to their investment, they shall receive.
      If you don't like how you're valued, increase your value or do something else.

He isn't against free speech. He is just disgusted with the media constantly using hit pieces to attack him and then retracting later on (when it comes to sources). And even though he clearly fights back with his words he doesn't call for their outright removal or for them to be silenced, as they do to him.
      Yes fox is just as bad and both sides are clearly too crazed right now to actually focus on more important topics but then again whoever said media was about truth. I believe we are at a point in time where what people focus on/follow has become bigger than ever before. Yet the attention span is shrinking as individuals who wish to make profit have to keep creating new media since consumption is in an all time high. I really feel like this is just the clickbait era we experienced at some point on youtube. It will eventually subside but at what cost? More division is occurring and it's not because of Trump per say, but because of choice. He is a roadblock to what some high political figures want and the tribalism mindset drags people who are moderate democrats further left or leaves them politically homeless. Lots of impressionable people are following the hate and have mob mentality.

    I thought Kevin was great. A wise man!
    Trump is definitely not racist and is not anti free trade. I also don't think anyone can be an isolationist, that would be like assuming that the rest of the world will just sing kumbaya and let America be to themselves but that isn't reality and never was and never will be. It's an ideological position just like socialism

      @@matrixman8582 Holy cow. Trump is anti immigration? NOT. He's anti-Illegal immigration. Anti gun, WTF are you talking about? He's only pro tariff to force the hands of those countries that got trade deals that favor them and not the US. Pro Military, yep, Pro Police, what does that mean? Pro drug war, well then Congress needs to make pot legal in the US. The president does not make the laws.

    • @matrixman8582
      @matrixman8582 5 лет назад

      @boson96 Strong military does not mean having bases in 100+ countries and fighting wars that have nothing to do with the US. The military is supposed to be for defense not offense.
      If he's pro legal immigration then why is he imcreasing barriers to obtain work permits, green cards, and visas?
      Criminal communists? Many US immigrants from 3rd world countries start their own business. And as long as they are not given citizenship, they can't vote or recieve welfare.
      Tariffs are a tax on the American people. IP is illegitimate property.
      The crisis is exaggerated. Less people are coming illegally than before and the majority come by plane/overstay their visa. Besides, The Constitution allows the govt to restrict naturalization, not immigration.
      He recently banned bump stocks

    The PRIMARY REASON to start a business is to MAKE A PROFIT. How u do it is secondary.

    • @katiek.8808
      @katiek.8808 5 лет назад +5

      This is not true. Starting a business for money will get you no where. It has to be about passion. Customers first. Employees second. Profits will follow if you have the first two down.

    • @Pcwarmachine
      @Pcwarmachine 5 лет назад +3

      It's as natural as a human breathing. Even our non-profits are in it to make a profit (and then just divvy it out to everyone involved).

    • @adonaiorion
      @adonaiorion 5 лет назад

      HUMAN LEADERSHIP and a business are two very different organizations. You cannot run both the same way and expect positive results on both, it's ludicrous. One is to look out for the wellbeing of people, nature and resources now and tomorrow, the other is to generate profits for a particular individual/group - and most have that approach of "at all costs" which easily translates into abusing people, nature and resources of today and tomorrow.
      If you ever wondered what is what's wrong with today's civilization, it's the lack of vision to see the differences. There will be no world where "profits" mean anything unless you account the first part, wellbeing for the LIVING which is inclusive with nature and a FAIR use of resources outside financial interests.

      @whyputaname2 I have two businesses they both require passion. When you own a business you work 24/7/365. It takes passion to keep you going. I guess your passion could be making money then you are good to go.

    • @georgemeyer3575
      @georgemeyer3575 5 лет назад +1

      @@katiek.8808 you can put all the passion into yr biz you want, BUT if you aren't making a profit, you'll b out of biz eventually. Additionally, the goal is 2 MAXIMIZE Profits, by way of keeping prices low and staying in biz 4 the Long haul, or keeping prices high and ending up with many, many competitors at yr market.
