So happy to live vicariously through you on this one, Jim. I've had all the Spots, bar this one. Absolutely LOVE the wine finishes and have a bottle of each at the moment in the cabinet, as well as some Blue - all at various levels. The Quails Gate is a good un and I had to slow myself down a good bit. Very more-ish. Ach, all those wine finishes are! Gotta love the Midleton Pot Still products. :)
Thanks for reviewing, Jim. Haven't tried this one and the chance I ever will buy a bottle isn't big, due to the wine influence and the amount of expressions already present on the I-would-love-to-try list. Slàinte mhath
The Gold Spot I reckon is beyond most of 'our' budgets, but I am grateful for the recommendation for the Bordeaux cask finish Green Spot version; definitely one to savour for those special occasions. I've only tried a wine finish whisky before and that was the delightful and engaging Ledaig Rioja cask finish, also at around 46% ABV (no colour and NCF). The very best of health my friend.
So, I finally made it home to my "watch later" list on YT, and what better place to start?! Loved the review, Jim. I've opened the Yellow Spot now, the bottle I bought, when you recommended "anything from Midleton" (more or less), when I wanted an Irish whiskey in my collection. So I'm still just getting familiar with a new style, but haven't regretted the purchase at all. Will it be my new favourite over malt whisky? Nah, but quite enjoyable and interesting to try, and I will learn more from it, I'm sure. Too expensive? Yes, definitely here in Denmark, but I struggle a bit with wine finishes (although clearly not quite as much as Frank 😁), so I went for the Yellow Spot instead of the more price friendly wine finishes. Cheers buddy - and thanks again, for the recommendation as well as the review 🥃😎
Thanks Jim. I tried this one down at Whiskey Live, Dublin in 2022. It's a fine dram but given the choice I'd go for Yellow Spot. It's at least £30 a bottle cheaper, has a bigger age statement and you dont need to pay a king's ransom on an auction site to get a bottle. For me the Yellow was better. I also tend to back off when its a chased bottle and this one fell into that category. Haven't tried the wine finish Green Spots but I'd be keen to give them a go. On the shopping list when I kill or bottle or two
Agreed Craig. The Yellow Spot is still a cracker. I swapped from it to John's Lane though when the price started creeping. I would still take the Gold over the Blue though. But, as you know mate, (thankfully) we're all that little bit different. Cheers buddy.
Jim, nice review. I'm a fan of the Spots but honestly I was disappointed in the Gold Spot. I did like it I just thought it wasn't at the level of the Blue or Red Spot. I need to hit my friend up for another dram of the Gold to see if it changes my mind.
I had the chance on the Gold Spot, but didn't pull the trigger due to the price. That said, the Green Spot Leoville Barton is a fantastic whiskey. Love it. Cheers aul boy.
Totally agree on the wine finishes, super. But I didn’t know about Quails Gate! I do like the yellow thou, a regular on my shelf Jim. 🎉
Will "faff" become Jim's equivalent to Ralfy's "flannel"?

Cheers Benny. Glad you like it buddy.
I could not find this anywhere but I guarantee you if I had I would be drinking it for sure. Great review man and recommended substitute bottle 🤙🥃
