    O been told that the main should have a 4 th reef this then solves the problem of leaving the safety of the cockpit.

      When the wind strength becomes sufficient for a fourth reef, you would be better off using a Trysail.. Why would you risk blowing out your mainsail??

      One thing to consider is the boom. In conditions requiring a trysail, the boom may be going into the water. Since the trisail doesn't have to be sheeted to the boom, the boom can be kept centered.

      yes 4th reef on main and after the storm pass you should pass from sailmaker to pay 5000euro for new main sail 🙂
