Trento is a fantastic city. Stunningly beautiful. We having stayed in the Grand Hotel, we would not even consider staying in any other. (Very reasonable, too. We’ll be back!) Unusual for most cities, the Grand Hotel is only a two minute (flat!) walk from the train station and yet, unlike most cities where the area around the train station tends to be less attractive, in Trento that’s not so. For a start, there is a very nice park area in between. So easy to walk around, it is easy to see why. The city is at the bottom of a huge bowl of high and awesome mountains. A bit of trivia about those mountains: Trento was the city in which the famous Council of Trent was held in the sixteenth century, in the very impressive duomo. I suspect this was so the Popes (Paul III-Pius IV) could and for whatever reasons(!) easily control access in and out. 😎 My wife and I have travelled much of Italy and seen many monuments and fountains-but for me the one in Trento’s glorious main piazza, whilst certainly not the largest, but still large, is the most elegant of all. (Really something to see!) Do travel around Italy’s lesser-known cities, towns and villages. Soooo much to see!
