No problem, I found out RUclips needed a video like this when I went to change mine!! Of course they want you to spend more money rather than do it yourself. As you can see, you don't need to be ASE certified to do this job. Thanks for the comment, I'm glad I could help!!
If your screws are hex shaped, be sure to use a hex screwdriver. I tried unscrewing mine with philips screwdriver and they'd start stripping instead of turning. Hex screwdriver worked fine, though.
Nice video. Four of the screws on the engine air filter housing of my 2002 Civic are stuck and cant be removed. I've sprayed Liquid Wrench and WD 40 and neither seemed to help. Any suggestions? I'm almost at the point where i might replace the entire engine air filter because I can't remove the lid.
Hmm, I've used PB Blaster in the past, but I don't know if you'll have any luck with that either. You might be able to drill them out and replace them as well...
+Krayzie Trini Usually the purpose of this silencer box is to reduce induction noise. Normally you would'n have any problem, but i think a bit more od dust would accumulate on the bottom af your air filter.
Gonna check my airfilter on my 01 civc car gets great gas milage living 10 to 15 minutes from work half tank of gas lasted monday to friday with having to fill up about mid day 228 thousand and still going some parts are gonna need replaced as parts dont last the as long as the vehicle does but only few parts to fix and replace n its good running car
I need to remove the air sensor because I am going to put it an air intake, I read that you must be careful with the air sensor, do you know anything about?? thanks.
ilovecarlos480 No clue, but I think it would be similar. If I were you, I'd look under the hood to see how close it looks to this video, and also seek out some other resources online to check. The guys at your local auto parts store should be knowledgeable enough to tell you as well. Good luck!
i tried checking my filter to see if it needed to be replaced but 5 of the screw are stuck. they just keep turning and turning and dont come out its annoying
pointlessCRAYtv Sounds like they're stripped. If they go all the way through the plastic, try pushing on them with something from the bottom and then trying to unscrew them.
+Chris Grant I had a similar problem, my screws weren't striped. They just kept spinning and not coming out. I used a needle-nose pliers to pull on them while I unscrew. That did the trick for me.
+Krayzie Trini I have exactly the same car. The screws are not stuck....they just have 2 scales of unscrewing. After you unscrew up to the first level, try to lift up the screw with your finger and then try to unscrew again for second time ;)
+Honda Madness Hi @ honda madness. would you be interested in sharing your experience with this air box with me in more detail? I am considering a new design because there are many people that experiencing issues with this exact situation
Thank you - I found KN online GRATEFUL for advice 2002 ex civic I had engine lite come on yesterday P0133 code oxygen sensor obviously I m a single female on tight budget with no help for anyone on my car I will try to do the oxygen sensor myself replace air filter and take my car to auto part store to rent the tool and maybe they help me there thank you again youtube VIDEO ARE AWESOME HELP
+Nicolas Rosario I have the same model of civic (1.4 / 2003) and today I drove it without air filter for some meters. Sounds awesome, but I wouldn't recomend doing that by means of engine longevity.
It would help if someone posted a link to Amazon or Walmart.com where exactly the correct product can be ordered. That fully closes the loop, and prevents getting the wrong item.

Thanks! You just saved me $80 from having to go to the dealership!
That's what I like to hear, and exactly why I made the video. Hope you got something nice with the dough you saved!
straight to the point and clear description. great vid
Great Video Chris! My MPG dropped down quite a bit so this may improve it. is there anything else to replace that may help?
I’m not a mechanic, but I know some basics. New spark plugs, a fuel filter, oil change, and a fuel injector cleaning might help too!
Thanks for the video Mr Grant. it was very useful for me, i have a H Civic 05
Carlos Gongora No problem, glad to be of help!

You described it the best everything I need to know thanks bro
Glad to hear it
We have a 2001 Civic. Good video. Thanks.

what happened to old fashioned circular filter housing removable by simple wing nut operated by hand? 60 second job
Brian Waters I often too miss the 60 second hand jobs.
Hello, air filter screws are rust and now 2 of them are broken. Can you suggest something?
Thank you
my screws are totally rusted and won't come off, especially the center screw.. i might need to force it which might break something.
I took out my silencer, because I like the way it sounds without it. Is their any negative effects by doing that? I know its kinda off topic.
+Krayzie Trini Usually the purpose of this silencer box is to reduce induction noise. Normally you would'n have any problem, but i think a bit more od dust would accumulate on the bottom af your air filter.
you just woke up my neighbours with that intro!
Thanks for the video, very useful for me.
You mentioned that you are using a K&N filter. What type of oil do you use for the reapplications?
On the last car I had with a K & N, I just used the oil that they recommended. I still haven't put enough miles on the Honda to need to oil it yet.
What do you mean reoil it

Garcia dany I know nothing, tread carefully my friend...
Chris Grant It was pretty easy, just pull it out and that is all, thanks anyway for your reply.
Perfect
What brand of filter did you replace it with?
K and N
Does this work for a 03 hybrid as well?
ilovecarlos480 No clue, but I think it would be similar. If I were you, I'd look under the hood to see how close it looks to this video, and also seek out some other resources online to check. The guys at your local auto parts store should be knowledgeable enough to tell you as well. Good luck!
If I'm cleaning it, with that do I re oil it ?
Hector Cruz what do u mean reoil it

No problem, that's why I made the video. There's no reason to pay a ton of money for a job that can be done so easily. Good luck!
Linette where did you buy your Oxygen sensors from... I have the same model and the same problem did you end up doing yourself?
Thanks 🙏
can you drive it opened like that
I'm not a pro mechanic, but I wouldn't advise it.
+Chris Grant I'm just asking as in a what would happen questions lol I'm not driving like that
+Nicolas Rosario I have the same model of civic (1.4 / 2003) and today I drove it without air filter for some meters. Sounds awesome, but I wouldn't recomend doing that by means of engine longevity.
+Marshall Murdock I drive the 02 civic lx coupe model but ok I hear ya
