- About two months ago, Mike Battaglia posted a microtonal jazz piano video that was so fantastic that it almost made people feel good about social media! Here it is transcribed, with his help! Thank you Mike for playing this!!! It was so fun to transcribe!!! The tune is originally written by Cliff Burwell in 1928.
Btw - there is one mistake that Mike and I found: at bar 34, the Gb (on the and of 2) and the G (on 3) should be an octave higher, making those intervals fourths instead of fifths.

He also did one in 19-TET. I thought the 31-TET one would be more interesting to see written out.

Super impressive! We need more microtonal transcriptions.
I'm a sucker for those 4:5:6:7:9 chords at 3:23
Really really cool: both the playing and the transcription.
31tet , for me, is the best balance between just intonation and being able to modulate and practicality.
Yes the best meantone tuning lies somewhere around 31edo and 50edo. However i would say non-meantone miracle tunings between 41edo and 72edo are more accurate when it comes to almost just intonation, precisely because they distinguish between the pythagorean and quintal major seconds, and thus have more accurate tunings of 3 and 9.
Just like we like meantone anyways, sometimes we like eventone/archytas (superpyth?), and for that i think the best tuning is somewhere between 27edo and 49edo.
19edo and 22edo are nice, but not accurate enough in the 7limit imho. We still use them, just like we use 12edo.
Oh, this is miracle as well, though in 31edo. I didn't notice, just enjoyed the music. 😅
I think I read somewhere that Leopold Mozart’s book on violin techniques used a tuning system very similar to 31 tet in the nowadays sense. So would not be unfathomable that you find it harmonious
We need to clone Mike since we need thousands more of these pronto. It's one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.
It's crazy good how much everything really connects together so as to have this seamless unified sound. Excellent composition. And great job, Mike!
omg when it starts getting spicy with the triplets in mm. 43-44 ... this is damn good.
Great transcription here, Stephen!

Maybe MidiPlayerPro can help play such songs. It reduces the number of keys you need on the keyboard to play microtonal.
we know you had to do it to 'em
