If you work on cars frequently, then you invest in some hose clamp pliers. I have a standard pair and one that has a cable for tight spots and I’ll never go back. I have the Snap-On ones, but you can get cheaper brand versions of both for under $20. It’s worth it for sure. They also have hose pinching clamps so nothing leaks too that are super convenient.
Yeah those are nice with the throttle cable on them to be able to reach the clamp.... This process definitely is nice if the home mechanic doesn't own a pair tho
I ran into an issue today where i used those and it locked it open, left it like that for 30 min or so while i did a thermostat. Put it back in its original groove and it leaks, move it up to fresh rubber and its good to go..
Had a project on my car, so "while I was in there", I replaced EVERY type of rubber hose with silicone. The hose clamp pliers were a must, as well as hose grip pliers.
Been working on cars for 35 yrs, never needed a pair of hose clamp pliers, i guess mainly cause im not an idiot, and i didnt buy a screwdriver wrench or a ratchet hammer.
or you could just use the pliers and slide the clamp an inch or so down the hose and then you wont have to retrieve that socket when you bump into it and it shoots off
@@Greaseballmx Last time I dated my GF decided to Clean... never could i find a bloody thing. Since being single i can locate anything i want because of where i put things.
These hose clamps can be in the worst spots. On an audi i managed to jam needle nose pliers into the radiator trying to get the clamp off the lower hose. Hose clamp pliers are the way to go on those clamps.
Black overflow tanks means a smoked head gasket 👀😧. Better hope the bars fixed over worrying about a the stained container 🤦♂️😝. Sweet hack once again though 🤙😎
The best tool I ever bought was the hose clamp tool with a 2 ft cable and ratcheting handle. Only way to even get to some lower radiator hoses. That specific tool saved me from a bunch of cursing many times.
That black is from exhaust gas in your cooling system. You got head gaskets or crackhead. Glove. over the current bottle. Remove the radiator cap. See, if it inflates the glove While. You have the engine running.
Dirty Reservoir Fix: Remove reservoir, rinse, drop in a handful of screws/ bolts, fill 1/3 with water, small squirt of dish soap, put on lid and shake it around for a few minutes. Then scrub outside with soapy water/brush. Results: clean reservoir interior. But if it's an old pressurized reservoir just replace it because they can break and leave you stranded.
The hose in the original video, had been removed before the made that clip of footage. They were re instilling.... anycase, in the rust belt. You usually have to break the seal. Then pull it.
Makes no sense to me, just grab it with regular pliers instead of needle nose, move it, and done till you reverse procedure to move back. Put a socket on there and all you really gain is a chance to lose a socket. Plus replace a tank merely because it's black? Just wash it. If the black is on the inside, throw some rice in and hot detergent water and shake it around a minute. If it is fungus, add a little bleach to kill that, but don't expose any metal if a pump or whatever is still in it.
every time i tryed to grab one of those hose clamps with needle nose pliers one side always goes under the edge of the clamp and get stuck ill keep using vice grips besides how often you have enough room to stick a deep well socket over the clamp
That hack is a thousand years old but everyone doesn't know it it's amazing what you can learn no matter how much experience you have when you know everything then you are in trouble
This is exactly a fake life hack. Why not continue to use the needle nose pliers? Use vice grips, use hose clamp pliers, compress the clamp with any pliers so that it locks itself. This is dumb.
Hold on, what does the original broken off tab for?? I've always used channel locks to get these off. What the hell have I been doing this entire century.
I seen a hack the other day... the dude was talking about leverage with a ratchet and he said you can use a wrench or a pipe but he also used a long extension and a socket to fit over the end of the socket I tried today and it worked mint I kind of laughed when I did it today
Get you a small set of vice grips I work on a lot of appliances and have to mess with these little connectors a lot and I'm telling you vice grips are the best way to go
Yeah because they go shooting across the shop because of shhhhtupid shiiit like this, never to be found again because no one wants to look for it and too lazy to clean shop. I will add that I still have my first 10 mm short and deep 6 and 12 point sockets from when I was a youngin, because I'm not lazy or stupid. Still have all my 10 mm wrenches as well. Any one who doesn't, fits into a certain category...
I only watched this to ridicule people who need a hack for a hose clamp. Then I watched it and it's a good hack. For the vise grip people sometimes you don't have one. You're choices are to squeeze it with plyers and get pissed off each time you pull the clamp down and the pliers fall off, or go to the store and buy a vise grip which you're not going to do because a half hour trip isn't worth a minute of frustration with the pliers. So, good hack.
Instead of replacing that black coolant tank, might want to try replacing that head gasket first since that's what caused that black coolant tank residue
@intentsmodz Remember the part of the video he said “my tab is broken so it won’t stay open”? or something along those lines… Either way He already had pliers in his hand and came over from the tool box So he had access to better pliers AND I guarantee he had channel locks and vice grips in his tools, they both work better than those needle nose he used
Just make sure you don't use a 10mm or it'll make sure it slips off and disappears in the engine bay forever
Trust me I thought it was just 10 mils but the curse doesn't end there my car swallows all kinds of shit in the eng bay 😂
10mm are one time use anyway, we all know that. I bet I've bought 20 of em and I can probly lay hands on 2 if you gave me an hour to look for em.
I literally was gonna say this EXACT thing🤣🤣
The elusive 10 mm tool tobacle. Why art thou so elusive?
There are demons that steal ever 10 mm they can!

Most underrated comment here. Sorry folks this is another Chinese hack, just use the plyers and slide it back...
You mean just work like a human being?
So you've never had your pliers slide off the clamp?
Weekend warrior? Smashed knuckles... Do you moisturizer 😂. Or did Lack of Hands on experience lead you to that comment.
I'm more impressed that you know where your tools are and can find them
😂 right

Well, he does belong with butthead and beavers.
And they are always the cleanest and newest tools too, almost like it was setup, huh?
I’ve never had a problem with just sliding the clamp back up the hose. It’ll stay right there until you’re ready to slide it back to the end. Promise
Vice grips.
You're Welcome.
Yup
Vise Grips
Multi grips
They also have this handy new tool that does something similar. It's called a vice-grip..
Will that work on crimp connections
Thanks for that, I got rid of all my sockets and just use vice grips now. Rebuilt a whole engine with one tool!
@@geodun this is the only way I replace my control arms now. Hell, I don't even use bolts anymore. Just vice grips.
If you aren't using vice grips to torque your head bolts, then what are you doing with your life?
@@mixerfistit5522 For suspension and steering I use cable ties rather than bolts. Safety third I say.

Standard pliers work wonderfully! Just slide it back my 8 yr old loves labeling then remove n all hoses and electrical!
Dude! 40 years later, I'm looking forward to this hack. Thanks 👍
The socket trick is cool but the saying on his hat makes this video great!
I use clamping/locking needle nose pliers. Whoever came up with the idea to make needle nose lock pliers is a hero.
The 'black' is surface so try a cup of sand and cleaner of your choice and shake it and most should come out. Cheaper that $120 tank.
They make a special pair of hose clamp pliers with a cable that lock and do the same thing. Small vise grips work too.
Visegrip hack and the black overflow tank is from oil in the coolant, intake gaskets usually, possible trans cooler
Those old vortec engines are notorious for the cheap head gaskets. Been there, replaced with the good set instead of the cardboard.
Umm… why not just remove it with the pliers? So confused
Excellent👊🏻 I’d rather learn later than never learn at all. Good video.👍🏻
I coulda used this literally 3 hours ago.😢 Jobs done now
This dude is classic, love your videos. And the hat
Put a dog chain inside your old reservoir along with some hot soapy water and shake it a bunch. It'll end up looking brand new.
These hose clamps can be in the worst spots. On an audi i managed to jam needle nose pliers into the radiator trying to get the clamp off the lower hose. Hose clamp pliers are the way to go on those clamps.

mini visegrip plyers work well too

That black is from exhaust gas in your cooling system.
You got head gaskets or crackhead. Glove. over the current bottle. Remove the radiator cap. See, if it inflates the glove While. You have the engine running.
The needle nose pliers is all you need... just slide it off.... and the socket simple is not tight enough for most hoses....
I've never found it to be even the slightest problem to just grab the clamp with pliers and pull the hose off with the other hand
just like he did... only he didn't
That is a pretty cool trick! 😎 👌 👍 I never thought of that before.
Great little hack. Thanks for sharing! 👍
I've watched so many of your videos. Now I find myself saying what. No way just like you. 😂

Dang. I wished I worked on cars cause this is a solid hack. Good one!!
For those clamps, the KNIPEX TWIN GRIP Pliers work phenomenally on them!
That is cool hack got dayun looking for non existing and or " missing " pliers or worse the vice grips that are too small or big .
Ty frank the tank 😂
I love your videos man keep up the great work
A small pair of vise grips work much better 👍
Fuck it just use the plyers and strong hand and be done with it

Or buy a set of hose clamp pliers with a concave side & a tab side. Locking ones work great but if you can find the 45degree ones get those too.
every time i tryed to grab one of those hose clamps with needle nose pliers one side always goes under the edge of the clamp and get stuck ill keep using vice grips besides how often you have enough room to stick a deep well socket over the clamp

Fuck yah. I had seen this and super rad that it works.
