Giant Dog Refused to Leave Dollar Store

- Bradenton Florida police were called out to assist store clerks in removing a 135-pound dog who refused to leave! Workers at the store needed to close up and couldn’t lock the doors with the dog inside. Taking the dog, whose name they later found out is Bentley, out of the store proved to be a challenge. The ties the first officer on the scene tried to use just weren’t big enough for him. Thankfully, Bentley had a microchip, which successfully reunited him with his family.
He obviously wasn’t done shopping, I can’t believe how rude officers can be. Should’ve let my man Bentley finish and MAYBE he would’ve left. This is OUTRAGEOUS.

Honestly respect to the store owner for not just forcing him out and instead trying to get him home. The poor little guy would have gotten hit by a car if they didn’t take the time to call someone and just threw him out in a hurry to close up. And he’s a smart dog because he knew staying in a place with lots of people would be his best way of getting home.

Big guys can be sneaky as all heck. My old boy was three feet at the shoulders and 150lbs (Alaskan Malamute). The friendliest goof in the world, but he could sneak up on you super quiet and put his muzzle in your hand to ask for pets. It freaked people out occasionally in the dog parks.
LOL, they probably were. Dog was obviously well cared for... Probably the last place thing they thought to do was get out and look in Dollar General. Thank goodness he was friendly..lol.

I know what u mean there. I remember the time when i lost my cat after getting him back from grooming. I went in search high and low for him. Ask every shop around the block, eventho im a shy person, really had to suck that up for his sake. Went seeking from morning till night only to find out he was in the car the entire time. I was shouting his name like a crazy person around the neighborhood while he was just chilling under the seat like a boss😤

I think he got out of the yard, got lost, and wound up in the area around the store and remembered because he might have previously been there with the owner. It was the only familiar place he could have gone to in order to look for his owner, so he did.

@@user-fk9vm6no5i it would be a different outcome situation if it was human, but for dog it's ok, police only will think is that dog is staying there because one of store employees or it's owner probably feeding the dog daily that makes the dog to keep coming back to the store or the dog just loved to play there often since the dog liked the environment of that store place and preferred not to leave because of that

He is 1/2 Great Dane and 1/2 St Bernard. I used to have a dog just like that. I wish I had him back, but I moved several states away and had no room for him.

@@richardsmith1331 if its been a few years, he probably isnt around anymore. They don't live very long. Most times, the bigger the dog is, the younger they die. I would say 6-7 years is average for a dog that big. I had a great dane that lived 7 yrs and that was good. And then tiny dogs like chihuahuas live like 20 years very often. And it's no surprise when they live 15, 16 yrs.

I’m in charge of a warehouse and the main boss brings in his dogs and encourages employees to bring theirs as well and it honestly makes the work environment so much happier I think more work places should allow to have dogs around(if it’s safe for them to be around of course) it creates a happier place to work in
Man I wish I could do that. I brought my dog once to a little nature reserve and the minute I sat down to chill and draw in my book, my dog starts yelling he's bored and wants to go. 🤣

Dog probably just open the door and went for a regular walk to the store and got lost with all the snacks

I would not trust cops to handle this with their track record of shooting friendly dogs. Glad that these cops knew how to interact with the dog and knew he was friendly.

I feel like this is a good PSA for why it's important to get your Pets microchipped. Even a well-trained dog can be liable to jump a fence
Also a good reminder to train your dog to present itself in a friendly, non-aggressive way. I think it goes a long way in one's willingness to help the situation. I'd love to know what mix he is!
We Need microchips on kids too in he future. It is needed if they get lost too. For school of course, I can't wait for the future

I'm a professional dog trainer and I *Iove* the approach those officers took--the high, happy voices, the petting, the overall upbeat happy attitudes.
My guess is that Bentley was actually tired of the heat--giant dogs overheat incredibly easily--and didn't want to go back outside into the heat and humidity. Can't blame him, I feel exactly the same way! Thanks to great police attitudes and microchipping, the story has a happy ending.

I'm just scrolling through videos, and this pops up. Now I'm crying. Lost my dog Solo about a year ago. He was 135 lbs of just absolute kindness and everybody loved him. Only made it to 7. Love you big dummy and I miss you. I quit drinking after he died. 20 years of life I missed. My dude died so I could be free.

Reminds me of our local Tesco cat named Spartacus! His home is right across from the store but he likes to hang out in Tesco in his designated cat bed until night time when he decides to go home. His family and the store manager have told people not to feed him because he’s well looked after and they don’t want him getting too chubby! 🥺😭❤️

Have had Saint Bernards most of my life. The best sweetest, gentle Dogs. A hell of a lot of work and space needed, but if your heart is truly into it. So worth it.

We had a store across the street and there was a dog who would come in everyday and stayed until they gave him a packet of Doritos. He did this for years. They even donated Doritos when the poor Roxy died. This video just reminded me of how cute and funny it was.
