The Failure that was WWE Studios

  • When you see that a movie is made by the WWE.. that is usually not a good sign. WWE movies are very interesting creations. Want 5 straight to DVD Marine movies? WWE got you covered. Before WWE Studios was a company that lived to make straight to DVD "classics", they actually tried making major motion pictures. Such as the Marine, See No Evil, The Condemmed and more. They had the Rock, John Cena and Stone Cold ready for stand by.. but they flopped. What happened? How could WWE flop at making movies? Well lets find out. A quick history of films made by the WWE.
Hey at least they helped the Rock right?

They should have did movies based on their characters own history. Like I would have loved to seen a movie that would be about the Kane, Undertaker, Paul Bearer story. Showing what happened to their mother and other things. I think a lot of wrestling fans would have digged that.
A crazy funny story about the Dudley Boyz coming up in Dudleyville with their family and friends.
Mick Foleys story would have some crazy twists too.
The Rocks Smackdown Hotel being another idea. Based on the Rocks commercials, and that one about Kurt Angle checking in to play WWF Smackdown 2. I think it could have been amazing to turn into a movie.
There's plenty of possibilities.. But instead WWE just made things that any other studio was already doing better. The only ones that I thought was ok was the first Marine, The Chaperone, and See No Evil.

13:14 one can say the same thing about their roster. WWE knows how to build a star if they want to, they just don't, they just choose to waste talent and time, but they CAN do something good, that's currently more or less a point of contention after the waves of mass firings, so many people who could've actually made an impact but simply didn't because WWE chose not to do their magic

@@comet6740 WWE has a big roster with a bunch of people they could push to stardom, not just a handful of guys. my point is they aren't utilizing their talent as well as they maybe could. if nothing else, look at all the mass releases they had since 2020, a bunch of those guys were underutilized and the Creative couldn't be *creative* enough to do something with them, so the company couldn't justify paying for all of them, which then led to the "budget cuts", but maybe, if WWE had given those people a chance to shine and get over with the crowd, the workers would've become investments, not expenses

For all the dynamics behind the culture of board members of Turner that hated wrestling and felt that WCW was a waste of prime time for other movies; gotta say Vince and Kevin Dunn may share that attitude. "Performers", "superstars", "sports entertainment", these are all self conscious efforts to distance themselves from what wresting represented in the 80's. The obsession of wanting to win a tv credit or film in a way, is more significant to them than improving WWE. That's why AEW is growing in viewership.

I honestly believe that the real factor that set McMahon off into trying to be a movie mogul was the surprise success of Roddy Piper in John Carpenter's "They Live".
Of all members of the old WWF roster, Piper's role had people calling him an up and coming star and Vince was astonished that the middle aged heel could be SO DAMN popular, and nobody paid Hogan a bit of notice.
A year later: Hogan was in the official first WWF movie, "No Holds Barred". And the public agreed with the Hulkster about the smell of that amazing picture.
    "Dookey!"

The characters and actors are fun, Kane as Jacob is awesome, the kills are brutal, and the final two kills are severely unexpected along with the ending. They did a good job on that one
