I use a finishing nail instead of the stand they give you and vacuum up the stray grass with an upright vacuum and used pantyhose I use watered down Elmer's glue woodland scenics glue is same I've used both same results
after about 20 minutes drying time I use a shop vac with a sock filter and vacum the area. It makes the grass stand up and collects all the excess to reuse
Great comparison Sparky, after watching you video I might try building my own as the woodland scenic ones are $140 AU here in Australia, thank you for posting, much appreciated. Gary.
Great video, SParky. Results may vary, but making it yourself and taking time does save. There are a few pros who think the homemades don't work, but you show they can- if you take the time and do it right... just like the expensive ones.
the homemade one work good but i wouldn't of paid the $150 to woodland but i do have one i'm not sure how much i paid for it. i did try to use it on my cafe build and i couldn't get the grass to stand up guess i need more practice. i didn't know back then that you can make one until i sub to you .so the homemade works just as good
I made one with the fly swatter and then I saw a video of one using a ‘ Negative Ion Generator and made it. It’s brilliant and does a fantastic job. I think it was a Luke Towan video that shows how to make it.
Great video, I really don’t think there much difference between a homemade or cheaper applicator. Woodland Scenics covers a little better but if saving money gets the job done then go for it. Of course I bought a cheaper version and works good for me.
Hi Sparky ,l went with the scenic express static grass applicator it has a metal Sieve mesh and that help it stand better, plus l uses the fine mesh works better takes bit longer but in the end it worth it ,l notice woodland scenics one is plastic sieve ,both look good it all come back to what your willing to pay for one cheers Ron.B
Great comparison sparky. I would say the woodland scenics is a wee bit better. You can purchase an ion generator of of Amazon and make one out of a flashlight casing. The ion generator runs off of nine volts meaning it's more powerful. You can make it for around 30 bucks.
Any hobby commercial grade static grass applicator are over priced. No why are they worth 100 to 200 Canadian. I made mine for 26 bucks using a negative ion generator used in room air purifiers from amazon. Works just as good as any of the brand names. Also better then the fly swater method. Got the idea form Luke Towsan Nice comparison video thanks for sharing. Thanks for saving us money.
Great video Sparky, I bought my static king for about $80. havent used it yet. I also bought the fly swatters a few years ago thinking i would make my own but never did. I watched a Martin Welberg video where he explains that more power yields a better result. I forget what wattage he recommended but higher end results would require higher end cost. Perhaps using the handheld electrode and using it closer to the spot where you are distributing the grass would give a better result? Cheers Rob
Harbor Freight 99 Cent Flyswatter is my choice. Now Sparky, how about a video on how you made the applicator with the Flyswatter? (guess I spoke to soon. Now watching the making of)
try going straight up and down and not "shaking" side to side, see if you get better results Sparky, just a thought great video on how to save some cash thanks for sharing
Hi sparky Saw you had a shaker of woodlands scenic static grass flock. Have you used that and what are your thoughts about it? Also, what is the length of the static grass flock? Thanks
i have tried the shaker and must say, I either didn't shake it enough, ha ha , or it just doesn't work the best, cheap and easy, I would say just make one. you can use different size strainers when making it the static grass that I like to use most is 6 and 4 mm
I think Woodland does a better job but not $100 better job, I have a commercical cheaper one using bug swatter step up transformer, But i`m going to fit an ion generator in it which is all the expensive ones have in them
I did the fly seater first. So, so results. I made a variation of Luke Towan’s and it works very good. I ordered a plug in dc transformer so I can use it and we’ll see if there is any difference.
go to the end of this video, and there is a end screen taking you to the video on how to make one

I do the same with a 12amp upright vacuum and used pantyhose
Woodland Scenics Thumbs UP That's what I have will be starting that project soon.
Great comparison Sparky, after watching you video I might try building my own as the woodland scenic ones are $140 AU here in Australia, thank you for posting, much appreciated.
Gary.
Thank you for the demonstration and honest opinion. If I ever need one, I’ll come back to your videos again.

Hey sparky I'm glad you readdressed this, I've been thinking about building one and you put this video out great timing.
Nice comparison Sparky! Based on your test, I think the home-brew version did a better job.
the homemade one work good but i wouldn't of paid the $150 to woodland but i do have one i'm not sure how much i paid for it. i did try to use it on my cafe build and i couldn't get the grass to stand up guess i need more practice. i didn't know back then that you can make one until i sub to you .so the homemade works just as good
I’m going try the home made uint, I have very small area to cover and will work the area as need, thanks for the feedback.

Very nicely done Sparky, the camera work was really done really well, those where great shots.

I was a sucker and got the Noch one shortly after it came out. Got my moneys worth from it, but still found it super expensive !

Nice comparison video thanks for sharing. Thanks for saving us money.
outstanding job on the two the home made one looks better i think thank you for sharing
Great comparison video, you got me sold on making my own, thanks sparky, I definitely like saving money.
Home made for me cheers Robert

based on this test i'd be going along with the home made one
I think doing larger sections to see how well the homemade version performs . Good job though
That's really good for 10 dollars, I'm definitely going to try that out.
Great video! Thanks for sharing, David
They both look great 👍 woodland senics is sweet but I’m more the homemade kind of guy I need to figure out to make one ☝️😁
go to the end of this video, and there is a end screen taking you to the video on how to make one
I made a fly swatter one, should have used a bigger screen but it works good.
Great job buddy..thanks for sharing and keep up the great work...Lance
They both look Great Sparky, Why don't you Pattern The Electric fly swatting Grass applicator???
Harbor Freight 99 Cent Flyswatter is my choice. Now Sparky, how about a video on how you made the applicator with the Flyswatter? (guess I spoke to soon. Now watching the making of)

@@sparky107107 did you the static grass flock in a static grass applicator and what did you think of the results?
Thanks
@@GlennGinsburg i don't understand your question. I am pretty sure I used static grass from woodland scenic. since it does come with the kit/
Hi ya Sparky. I have the static king. I use the wall plug for power. It works much better with more power. But…… to each his own, right?
Tremendous video Sparky. Thank you!
I think Woodland does a better job but not $100 better job, I have a commercical cheaper one using bug swatter step up transformer, But i`m going to fit an ion generator in it which is all the expensive ones have in them
More power,Not bad for 10 bucks
Really interesting experiment. I'm with you. Think I would do the homemade version!
Cool video sparky like the homemade applicator
Great Idea

awesome video
Awesome video
Thats a really great comparison. Yeah helpful, thanks for sharing.
Nice review....think I will make one
Try the static king with AC adapter&parchment paper on a cookie sheet for tuffs. You can physically feel and hear it work.freaky lol
