- On September 1, 2023, PHL17 (WPHL) switched affiliations from My Network TV to The CW.
WPHL had been affiliated with My Network TV since 2006. It previously had affiliations with The WB (1995 to 2006) the United Network (1967) and was an independent station(1965 to 1995)

Finally, after 17 years, WPHL is now a CW affiliation.
It was originally affiliated with the WB, but then changed its affiliation again to MNTV and then to The CW.

From 7:13 to 9:34 there was a Nexstar Washington test pattern onscreen, unlike the monthly Starz Transmitter Test we are familiar with on air. This was due to a glitch after WPHL-TV switched to The CW from My Network TV, as My Network TV relocated to a secondary TV digital subchannel 17.2 shared with Nexstar Media Group's Antenna TV.
I saw it live when it happened and was lucky enough to get a screenshot before it was fixed.
@@ericariley1696 We have never seen it LIVE as never shown in other markets, but a change had to be happening on the air.

Aren't you mentioning Nexstar (that took a majority of The CW)?
You catch on quick, the answer is yes.
What time was this? There was a test card on for about two minutes around the 7:15 minute mark of the video.
These bumpers were taped throughout the day, starting around 6am. The test card was at 8pm when the changeover from MyNetworkTV to The CW officially switched. The channel was having some glitches in the first couple of hours with bumpers cutting off and repeating.
PHL17 NOW THE NEW HOME OF THE CW ....WHAT'S THAT AN SIGN OFF?
This one is confusing, as the ads seem to indicate that the switch had already happened, since they're all advertising CW shows.
I think they were promoting the switch to the CW if anything.
Wait until Nexstar sells this station to Disney!
Disney doesnt want stations? u see what happened with the fox sports stations?
@@MaskedKillaJay They own ABC, you know.
Fun fact: PHL17'S switch to The CW means PHL17 will air the NASCAR Xfinity Series starting in 2025.
No, PHL17 and The CW will stay there forever. Nascar Xfinity series will not start in 2025!
I meant that The CW is airing the Xfinity Series starting in 2025, PHL17 is now an affiliate of The CW, so therefore, PHL17 will air the NXS starting in 2025.

Wait hold up... So if I'm getting this right, PHL17's morning news is produced by Nexstar, but the 10PM news is produced by Disney/ABC?
It's been like that for a while.
@@newstarcadefan I don't live in Philadelphia idfk this stuff
It's Pennsylvania.
ABC has been producing the 10:00 news since 2012. Previously it was done by the NBC affiliate after the switch to MyNetworkTV.
For the time being WPVI continue to produce channel 17’s 10 pm newscast, but it would not surprise me if Mission acquired WFMZ (channel 69) so that channel 17 will have additional resources to restart the production of its 10 pm newscast in house. If Mission does acquire channel 69, then most of its newscasts would remain the same, but the 10 pm newscast would move to channel 17 and expand to an hour, with the Berks County edition of the 1030 pm newscast moving to 11 pm. This would unfortunately result in the discontinuation of the 11 pm Spanish language newscast on channel 69.
This is seriously all speculation.
I disagree. WPVI would do better if they let ABC own a CW affiliate like WPHL.
It would be more awesome if ABC (WPVI) will own PHL17.
Why would and should ABC own a CW station? That makes no sense. They don't even want to own more ABC O&O stations.
What's going to happen to PHL 17 morning news & 6abc news on PHL17?
likely nothing, as WPIX is affiliated with the CW whilst not having the CW logo in their logo.
Both are staying put. The morning news is in the process of getting a new set.
Nothing of note. PHL17 Morning News is still on the air and in the process of getting a new studio in place which makes sense as PHL 17 is now technically the 2nd highest ranked station in Distribution Marketing Area or DMA rankings directly owned by the CW's majority owner Nexstar Media Group. Philadelphia is ranked number 4 in DMA behind New York, Los Angeles & Chicago. Sister station KTLA in Los Angeles is the highest ranked station in a DMA which technically makes it the CW flagship station. WPIX in New York and WCIU in Chicago are not owned by Nexstar so they are only affiliated. As for Action News at 10 on PHL17 the deal that WPVI and WPHL have in place is also unaffected by the changeover.
They're remain the same with PHL17 Morning News which was produced in-house since March 9th, 2015. Currently, the PHL17 morning news is still getting a new set, so they're still in a temporary set during the morning broadcast. The 10pm newscast was still produce by 6ABC since September 2012 as Action News at 10 on PHL17.
@@troykearney9516 KTLA was the west coast flagship of the network. WPIX was the east coast flagship of The CW since Nexstar acquired The CW on October 3, 2022. WPSG was usually the flagship CW station from September 2006 to October 2022.
