Just replaced the 4.0 in my 99 Grand Cherokee with an 01, 4.0.
Thinking seriously about building a 4.6 stroker with the original 99. Going 30 over plus a super charger, Banks header, Mellon Cam, 12 port Bosch injectors, cold air intake and a few other goodies, should give me the desired results.

I have a supercharger, I just haven't installed it yet. I haven't made up my mind if it's going on the Cherokee or my 91 YJ. Heck.... I might buy another and do both 😀

That 4 prong is your o2 sensor and can actually cause a no spark issue

Very good point! Thanks! I'm about to scrap that rig and turn it into a camper trailer. Thanks for dropping in!!

Question on the electrical harness. I have a complete 96 4.0 with all wires, sensors, cps, everything. Could it run as is without stripping unnecessary wires? I’ve watched videos where they strip it to bare minimum but is that necessary?

It's not necessary, it just makes the harness easier to put in a rig that didn't have all the bells and whistles. So, when you find the needed wires it can function. There will be a jumbled mess of extra wires to deal with. I stripped the harness out of that XJ today. I'm going to eventually build a stand-alone harness out of it to put in something like an old CJ or who knows what idea I may come up with. The rest of this XJ is going to built into a camper trailer.
