Hi Kelsey!! i personally love love love this new style of editing. i’ve been following your channel since forever and it’s impressive how much better your cinematography skills have gotten. also, i typically watch ur videos while drawing/doing other stuff so to me it’s perfect that you put a lot of effort into the intros of your videos and then spend the rest jut painting + chatting.
seriously congrats, you’re one hell of an artist!! 🎉❤️

My parents went bankrupt when I was 8 years old. Financial stability is important. Art is always there. The easel is always there and you can return to it any time you want. Sometimes that means I get up at 4 am or stay up late until the baby has fallen asleep just so I can touch my paintbrush.

@@liberator2057 Well yes! It works for some people. Just saying it's harder for artists in modern times to make art as their main source. Thank you! I love how you phrased all this. I have the "do a little of a lot" vibe happening for years now and I always feel like I didn't DO anything. I love the Eras idea. I need to switch my mindset to projects. I've learned in my 50's that I have executive dysfunction, so I literally have to think of 80% of the steps to do things EVERY time. It's not "do the dishes", it's "go pee, open the cabinets, empty the top rack, is it dry enough? empty the bottom rack, turn on hot water, where's the sponge,... etc" every step, every time goes through my head. So I tend to feel like ALL tasks are important and need doing now. Trying to switch mental permission to give priority to one project would help so so much. I also forget some of the steps in between projects and so have to "refresh" my knowledge if I pause a skill more than a week. I also live with the "two disasters from living in a box" safety fear. I've been kicked out with nowhere to go and not enough to live on. I've had negative income with kids to feed. I don't want to be 80 living under a bridge.

I have 3 lists must do, have to do, would be nice to do. I only ever hold myself to doing 1 thing of the must do list a day. Anything else I get done is a bonus but I find it focuses my attention to where it needs to be. Also art for mental health is scheduled everyday for a half hr min. It's surprising how much that focused half hr gets done and I feel sane at the end of it.

You didn't mention chores, things you must do if you don't want to live in a pigsty. I'm the type where everything around the place has to be just so before I can start creative work (home studio). It really feels like there's always something to clean, wash, take out, bring in, vacuum, tidy up, put away, sort, arrange, fix, repair, scrub, dust, move, throw away, launder, air, heat, cool, tune, FOLD... (every time I have to fold clothes or sheet -to save space- I really feel like I'm wasting my life away.
And don't get me started on paperwork (taxes, insurances, bills, etc.) or my 10-year-old laptop which hardware-wise works like a Swiss watch but is repeatedly being RUINED BY MICROSOFT WINDOWS UPDATES.

    • @Taka_Takata
      @Taka_Takata 5 месяцев назад

@@2moonplanet Thanks for the suggestion. I thought about it, but the problem is not really with the programs I use but with the deep knowledge of the OS and the tools I've gathered or created over the years which allow me to be super efficient and organized. Recreating this environment and workflow in Linux would take so much time (even though I'm an old hand at unix) as to require a complete halt to the actual work for which the computers are just tools.

OMG, you so hit the nail on the head about Art being a compulsion for you, I felt that to the core, the need to create to feel fulfilled. Non creative people discourage creating artists as they don't understand that it is built into the very fibre of the creative mind, it is essential to our wellbeing. I hope the people you know, who are struggling are able to transition to a more fortunate state.

Being a full time artist is a lot of work and requires a lot of time. I started full time about 10 years ago when my 3 kids were tiny and it was so so hard. I was exhausted being an at home mom and also trying to reach my art business goals. I stuck with it and over time it became easier to manage my schedule and pare down my tasks to just the things that move the needle in the business. It's so easy to get distracted by all the different possibilities so I learned that focus was key. Over time, I've grown each year but it has been very slow. Building relationships and discovering what works for you and what doesn't takes time and experimentation. No shortcuts for that! Never giving up is the name of the game...taking hits and always coming back. It takes a lot of patience and grace as mistakes and lessons occur.

Your video showed up at the right time. I get so anxious about getting art rigbt and making it into and income, but not just that but something I love and others love.
I see all around me people giving up on art and how hard it is in this era. Its disheartening to know; maybe I did miss my chance to be prime.
But after watching this I realize i have a very priviledge place of having a partner that supports our needs so that I can create with less pressure. Are we penny to penny? Yes. But if I know my love for art will pay off in the future, maybe I can let go of the grasp and desperation for perfection; that I can actually make something good.
So thanks for inspiring my hope again. ❤

I feel like I need to be more honest with myself and quality over quantity, but also making time for experimenting which is quantity over quality right so I feel like it is just doing stuff, just do whatever and have fun AND I need to better visualize what I want to have at the end of my life like a bucket list for my artwork. I have tried coming up with a large project planning annual calendar all on one page thing and trying to stay on top of my expectations and like I need to break down how long things take and then a more realistic time frame and more realistic yearly project timeline to get everything done. When I think of how little time I have to do anything I feel like I am having a physical stress response for something that should be fun and enjoyable. I have a list of concepts, topics, and themes I’ve daydreamed up so I know what to explore when I make time to do some random sketches and experiments.

15:15 To find a more sustainable solution to your problem of not being able to hone in on your art to the exclusion of other needs, consider blocking out a day, or even set of days, to do art, then other days to do your biz admin, maintenance of your work and living spaces, and so on.
You’re probably already familiar with time management techniques such as time blocks. When I’ve run across ideas such as that, the idea seems to be to block certain portions of our days for appointments, etc. I have tried some of those.
For me, especially when I am working creatively, interrupting my flow is disastrous. It is REALLY difficult to get back into something, once I’ve been pulled away from it. The entire day isn’t “ruined” per se, in the sense that it becomes a “bad” day for me, although there’s certainly a sense of “well, THAT isn’t getting worked on (or finished) today”.
I like the IDEA of blocking time. I’ve just found that I need bigger blocks. 😊
You’d introduced your audience to Louise a while ago. Louise is a Swedish artist. I found that I appreciate her channel as well. Her vibe is calm, yet she talks about times when she’s felt anxious and burnt out. I am someone with many responsibilities and challenges that I cannot lift from my life at this time. I sometimes feel burned out and anxious like Louise. One day, I was watching one of her videos, and she made a comment about doing her bookkeeping once a month. Mind you, financial matters have been a source of nearly daily angst for me, for as long as I can remember. The very IDEA that I could limit that angst to ONE day a month, instead of a daily feeling of dread was life altering for me. And, that video had a LOT more to do with her life in general, and how she came to be where she was then, than her financial matters - that was simply a comment that my ears happened to hear and resonate with.
I knew, there were enough things to deal with in that realm for me, that taking daily duress to monthly would be too big of a jump, initially, so I started trying to only deal with the money one day a week. It took me a few months to get there, but I managed. From there, I’ve gradually shifted my money mindset (LOTS of trauma-drama events live in the Land of Lack), and have brought both my personal and business money matters to 2-3 days a month, in my way to just once a month.
For other needs, instead of “mornings are this, afternoons are that” kind of time blocking, I’ve divided up my week: One day, I focus on the everyday needs of my home - Food in the pantry, etc; one day goes to biz admin; and FIVE WHOLE DAYS PER WEEK, I spend focused on the things that move me closer to my goals, whatever those may be. In my case, I’ve got numerous goals in various categories, and I float between those as I think I need.
For me, knowing that an entire day or set of days is devoted to a particular theme or main idea is MUCH more beneficial than a few hours for part of a day.
I get to hone in and exclusively focus on something with the assurance that I’ve still scheduled a day or so to do the _____ that needs to happen for my life to flow right. It’s a process. I’m not “there” yet. I can see the progress though, and it helps me to FEEL the flow and not feel so overwhelmed as I once did.
There are oodles of time management tips and tricks around. Don’t sweat it. You’ll find what works best for you.
Remember, LIFE is Art. Whether you’re painting or creating anything else, the best version of you is still in development. Enjoy the journey. Cheers!

Thank you for sharing. I think it's probably been at least a couple of years since I've finished an art piece. Sporadically I may have played around with my art to experiment with techniques, but not creating any actual pieces.
I want through this experimental period where I put out a ton of work very quickly. After that I just got into a state where I felt like I couldn't make anymore art until I had gotten what I already created online on all the platforms I wanted to utilize and implemented ways to monetize all of it. Then I actually hit a state of burnout while working on the business side of things. That was just over a year ago and I still don't feel like I've really recovered from it, which is probably in part to having multiple health setbacks as well as just a bunch of bad stuff happening in my life.
I have been doing a lot of brainstorming about ways I can scale back and simplify my art business, but somehow in the process of doing that, I think some of the ideas I'm coming up with for how I want to do things, while they are scaling things back in some ways, also feel like they're creating more work for me in others. So at this point I have no clue when I'll feel able to properly dive back into the business side of things, or even just get back to making art again because I think I'm still feeling paralyzed by the enormity of everything that I want to do, and like you, I'm doing it all by myself. I don't want to give up on things, but a lot of days I just feel discouraged by how overwhelming it all is.

Respectfully, you’re in a city. A certain amount of noise is expected (and, frankly, preferable to most of the background music people insert). Not only that, a city that’s particularly well-known for the rate of car break-ins.
I will say, though, that it really usually only becomes noticeable when you call it out. Then not only is it noticeable, but it’s harder to ignore.
So I’m not saying you shouldn’t worry about it-appreciate that you pay attention to that aspect of what you’re creating-but unless it’s truly egregious when you’re editing (and particularly because you do so many of these in voiceover and could conceivably do either ADR or post-processing), quit inviting the attention to it.

Your art is gorgeous and you’re clearly talented and you didn’t ask for my opinion but it’s the internet so here it is. It’s a little gross to me when people with 50k plus RUclips channels act so humble like money is hard and difficult, all while you show your very expensive studio and expensive nice canvases etc. (you worked for it, not saying you didn’t) but as someone who “actually is broke and poor” you seem to act so overly humbled of taking things slow and stuff when in other videos you’ve said you make like 10k a month. And you or others can come at me and accuse me of being jealous, I’m not, like get your bag keep making content, but my problem is you sitting here trying to make connections with less fortunate people when you are very clearly from the looks of it not financially struggling to survive like so many of us are. If you want to talk about your own like actually detailed personal experiences with struggling in the past then go for it, but for you to be acting so incredibly humbled as of now as if you barely have any money in your bank account is like a really privileged take. Also people enjoy your art, so I’m pretty sure you could paint almost everyday if you “actually” wanted to and just make videos on your art, but instead you’re like “I don’t have time for art”, you do you but all of that is so insanely sugarcoated from a very privileged stance. The economy is hard for everyone yes, but I’m pretty sure (as of right now) a person with 250k subs on RUclips with like 10k views on each video or more is not in a “bad place” financially. I love your art but I just think that way of acting is kind of gross. If you wanted to make more art then you would.

The traffic feels like a paid actor, because you’re talking about focusing on one thing like the viewer focuses only on your talking, and then there’re those other things and distractions(cars). It’s kinda ironic😅

try to do more art centred videos then you will be forced to do that for work. your vlogs+art stuff might do worse first but it'll get better

I prefer the other format, I like you talking into the mic and then maybe some background stuff. I like the experimentation but it’s too obvious that you moved the camera to get all these shots and it comes off staged and unnatural. It’s like when we take pictures of our products in front of a plant, theres a way to do it that doesnt look staged and theres the way that makes it cheesy that your hand is in front of the pot in your house.

A decade ago I transitioned from my era of painting into writing. For a while I enjoyed the accolades my paintings earned, and art students studying my worn with magnifying glasses trying to figure out 'How did I do that?' Selling a work was like selling a personal friend and meant I'd have to create another work. Others liked my artistry and techniques but but they interpreted what I painted (not abstracts) in their own image. It was an uncaptioned single panel message and nothing in the world changed. I realized writing could paint in other's minds what I wanted to say, and more effectively create a better world and legacy. The 656 page volume one will be released in two weeks. Reply if you want to know more.
