- I happened upon Poo Bah Records in Pasadena, CA quite by chance - and found some choice items, including some wonderful records of Baroque music.
Incidentally I have just started writing for Michael Fremer's (The Absolute Sound) new site, "The Tracking Angle," and you can read my most recent article on Christopher Hogwood's seminal recording of Handel's "Messiah" here: trackingangle....

My system, which has evolved over 20-plus years, is tube based and many pieces were acquired used. It was mostly put together with the invaluable help and ears of Eliot Midwood at Acoustic Image (acousticimage.com) who is also responsible for many of the fine recordings on the Yarlung label.

I used to shop at this store. Wonderful stuff.
Next time you're in the U.K., Mark, feel free to come around to my place and help me sort the wheat from the chaff in my Classical collection. 😊 I'm the only person I know who loves this music, so identifying the great from the merely good is some undertaking. Fifty years into collecting, I'm still finding lost gems on my shelves.
I've pretty varied taste. Started out with pop, then rock, classical, jazz and, right now, my soundtrack library is taking a hammering.
I must say that I really enjoy your videos. Genuine enthusiasm, expertise, and humility. Keep them coming.
My friend owns Poo Bah I’m so delighted you found some good records there.
It's a great little store!
Poo Bah used to be on Walnut further to the west. It was at the time -- '70s-'90s -- simply one of the best record stores in the LA area. The new site is okay, but nothing approaching the former site. As you note, they did know their customers. I recall dropping by one summer weekend. The guy staffing the register looked up when I entered and remarked, "Here comes the guy who pays my salary." I spent a lot of money at the old Poo Bah on rock, jazz, classical, you name it.
I’m an old new wave/Rock dude. I just started collecting classical records, because it’s a field I have never been on.. And I love your videos.. soo good👍
Thanks so much for listening - and congrats on your new explorations in the classical genre. You have so much to look forward to.
I already love my Schubert and Schumann❤️ and of course my own country’s Carl Nielsen and Rued Langgaard
@@SkovgaardDK yes, Rued Langgaard is really having a moment right now with those new recordings.
I grew up buying and trading records at Poo Bah's!
Can you make a record collection video? I'm curious to see your collection
Trouble is they are spread out all over the house!!! But maybe one day.....
@@musiconrecord6724 Then walk around the house filming them. Those kind of videos is always interesting and they will also get a lot of views.
I heard Anner Bylsma perform live solo at the Claremont Early Music Festival many years ago (same for Jodi Savall with Rejean Poirier).
So far, I have both records you've exhibited.
I envy you!
Started collecting rarer classical CDs and LPs there in the last 3 weeks. I bring a mat to kneel on because the LPs are mostly on the floor.
I also just got Gluck's Don Juan at Poo Bahs, with Gardiener! (on MHS).
Small world!
