I’m estatic that Angel is one of your favorite characters and I’m glad you touched on his snarkiness from early on. He is one of the reasons why Season 2 is such a nostalgic and poetic phenomenon for me. The actor did perfectly playing the brooding romantic Angel as well as playing the vivacious evil Angelus. His swag in Season 3 is unique yet an epitome of how cool and mature 90’s teen television was(Faith is a good example of that as well). Angel’s character breakout season was Season 2 which led to one of the most saddest tragedies in the show as well as exemplary storytelling of television ever with the work of art of SURPRISE, INNOCENCE, PASSION and BECOMING. I don’t care what anyone says about “creepy”, “cringy”, “inappropriate” or whatever modern social intellgence you want to apply to television from 20 years ago. Angel and Angelus is part of what made Season 2 a complete epic masterpiece.
I love Angel and Faith too. I hate when people over look the choice of wishing back the day in season 1 of Angel. He was redeemed to human form after admitting its what he wanted more then anything. But he wished it back because he loved Buffy so much. He didn't want selfish love destroy their calling and missions to save the lives of others. Heartbreaking. I don't by any means mean their love is selfish. I meant feelings over all would because they knew their callings came first despite how strong their love is.
It so dumb saying oh he's a 250 year old with a 16 year old. Like how could anyone even look at it that way. I wish ended with them two happily ever after the way it was meant to be.
@@johncap6495exactly! 🙄 Viewers these days are so technical and too overaware..it ruins quality story and great television just to appease to their perfect world. We dont need sensitivity training like we are at work. We need a piece of art in the form of gripping, gritty, superb storytelling. Also, it’s not like David Boreanaz is visually wrong for the role as if he were in his 40s or 50s like Giles. I never looked at it in anyway before and I definitely dont know. Glad there are people like you out there that agree!!!!!!
@@AmoMe2009 yup they look same ages. Tv and entertainment as a whole is ruined with this inclusive crap. Oh Buffy don’t look like me so..that character needs to be more queer, or fat. It naturally happened and moved the entire story without becoming the story. But I’m glad your here too cause nowadays you can’t have another opinion lol
I need a video essay from you on Spike as a character haha. So many people love to excuse Spike’s behaviors (especially those in season 6), and I love hearing that someone agrees with me. I also loved hearing you talk about Riley and his season 5 plot. I usually have a hard time choosing favorite and least favorite characters because pretty much any characters that were not written specifically for the purpose for me to dislike (ie Warren), I enjoy as a character.
OH MY GOD FINALLY SOMEONE WHO SEES MY ISSUES WITH HOW THEY WENT ABOUT SPIKE AND BUFFY'S RELATIONSHIP IN S7 AND HOW THEY BRUSHED PAST HER TRAUMA!!!! Thank you for actually seeing the massive underlying issues this causes that so many people just love to gloss over!
yep! One of the many reasons I will probably NEVER watch S7. I have watched a few episodes and knew kind of a lot about Buffy before watching it and nope, in my headcanon S7 should be and is very different.
I’m so happy Buffy made your favourite list, BTVS has been a part of my life since before I can remember and the character of Buffy made me feel strong 💪🏻❤
Love this! 💕Congratulations on 11K subscribers! You most definitely deserve it. Thank you for standing up for Xander! I had no idea that a lot of the fandom disliked Xander until 2 years ago and I was shocked and upset (I get weirdly defensive when it comes to Buffy characters, lol. I don't think I can say that I hate any of them really). I also agree that Faith's appearance in Season 4 was a highlight of that season. I loved Faith from the beginning and as I got older, I started to really feel for her tragic story more and more. Have you seen Dollhouse? It's not the strongest Whedon show but Eliza Dushku is amazing in it.
Excellent video. My number 1 and 2 are also Buffy and Angel and honestly, they are equally loved by me. Always making the hard choices and even when they make mistakes, they always pick themselves up and fight on. And I agree about Spike. Suddenly the show seemed to be more about him than about Buffy and I hated it.
F**k the algorithm, this video was GREAT and should have more views! Thank you for your time on this video. I think the title of this video may also not be helping having 10 subscribers in the beginning actually made me nearly miss this video since I did not realise at first that it was about favourite and least favourite characters.
Congratulations!! 🥳I love that the King and Queen of the Buffyverse are your top two favourite choices 🥰 and I agree with your top least favourite characters‼
I'll be able to watch tomorrow but just stopping by to say massive MASSIVE congrats Rachel :) You do some awesome work and I've been taking notes for the last two years. Love all your stuff ^_^
This was really well presented - and while I don't really agree with the majority of your choices personally, I really enjoyed hearing your explanations on why these characters stand out to you, for better or for worse. I was very happy to see some love for Dawn, who stands as one of my top favorite characters, and always has. I felt she was a necessary addition to the show, retaining much of the youthful part of the show that ran the risk of being lost with the aging of the other characters. I also love your discourse on Season 6; I've re-watched the series more time than I care to admit, and I tend to cease right at 'Hell's Bells'. I've always theorized that someone on the writer's team was using the show to work through their own trauma past Season 5, and eventually just found most of the latter half of S6 & 7 to be nearly unwatchable, as it shifted from the show I loved and enjoyed into this dark, trauma-laden drama which, while good, was very often depressing. On point with Warren, Andrew, and the Initiative boys - and I've always disliked Riley. Say what you want about Spike, but his reference to him as 'Captain Cardboard' was dead on. All in all, an excellent recourse, and something I really enjoyed watching. Love your love for the series and characters, Rachel - stay amazing!

14:21 Spike should have stayed a villain reluctantly helping the heroes against bigger evils. "Good Spike" didn't work nor did his out of nowhere Buffy obsession which ended with him trying to rape her which worked against them portraying him as good. And getting his soul back just made him an Angel clone.

Yes!! I agree with soooooooooo much of what you said!! I rank xander lower and faith much higher, but still. Especially what you said about Spike and Riley. Spot on.
Really good video. Like your reasons for including Buffy. Can’t argue too much with your least faves. Think I might agree on Andrew lol. Never knew Forrests surname was Gates! That gives me a chuckle for some reason 😁 Talking Buffy has been some of my best times in your company.
My Top 10 Favourite Buffyverse characters: 1. Wesley 2. Willow 3. Oz 4. Faith 5. Angel 6. Giles 7. Buffy 8. Spike 9. Cordelia 10. Xander My Top 5 Least Favorite Buffyverse Characters (from worst to a little bit bettter): 1. Fred 2. Riley 3. Andrew 4. Kennedy 5. Eve
favorite 1.Xander(probably the character that made me start to love the show when i first watched it) 2.Spike(he truly is disturbed, but i think his charisma and funny character makes him one of the best characters of both shows.) 3.Buffy 4.Giles(while he sometimes doesn`t fit within some scenes, i think Giles is one of the characters most responsible for Buffy growing up to be the person she becomes, i think he had a sutle but powerful effect on the character growth of the main characters) 5.Harmony(too me this is the most tragic character in the Buffyverse, because she was never able to be good as a human being, but she was always too kind hearted to truly be evil as a vampire) So Harmony doesn`t truly have any solid place within the universe. least favorite 1.Warren(while i like the trio as an evil group as they were quirky and different from the serious nature of some of the buffyverse`s villains, Warren just does a lot of messed up shit, but unlike Spike while he also did messed up things Spike works to try and change and fights for his own change, Warren when his actions are starting to caught up with him, he runs away.) 2.Graham(Forest i can excuse, because while i prefer him being evil with Adam, Forest while he is clearly Riley`s side kick, Graham is just the third wheel, these three to me felt like they were supposed to be a close friend group, but Graham much like Ben has no character trait or depth.) 3.Kennedy(she is barely even a character, while i like some of her chemistry with Willow sometimes, much like Ben she really has no depth as a character) 4.Ben(he got set up as some sort of love interest or at the very least a good friend of Buffy, but once Ben and Glory become the same, Ben lost any importance and potential impact as a character, it`s hard to remember sometimes that the character even existed in the Buffyverse) 5.Wilow(while i love her character, i felt like she become quiet demanding, always expecting more from the characters around her, without being able to live up to the standards she expected from the other characters.)
Top favourite: Buffy Faith Willow Cordy and Tara Least favourite: with the exception of Giles Angel and season 3 Mayor which I liked, almost all the men in the show because dear Lord they were suffering to watch and some were just a waste of screen time. But the very least favourites are Spike Warren Xander Riley and Andrew.
Totally agree about warren and spike for Warren he was truly a horrible character and a lame big bad to me he didn't come close to glory the mayor or the master and angelous even though spike was good on angel the damage was done for me after what happened in season 6 Here's my bottom 1. Spike 2. Warren 3. Dawn 4. Adam 5. Forest
Great video, I agree with most of your points but disagree with Xander. Much like your opinion of certain characters changed as you grew older, that is the case with Xander for me. I used to like him but watching as an adult, I just find him insufferable. My top 5 favourite: 1. Faith 2. Willow 3. Dawn 4. Spike 5. Oz 5 most hated: 1. Warren 2. Xander 3. Adam 4. Ben 5. Joyce (I don't hate her but I find a lot of her behaviours problematic) I would love to see you repeat this video for Angel characters 💕
Let me preface by saying I do love Tara and yes he is very shitty. Although, I have never hated Warren Mears. I didn't feel angry when Tara died, I couldn't tell you why, but I did really like her. I love season 6, and Warren/The Trio are my favorite Buffy villains believe it or not. My top three are Warren/The Trio, The First, and Dark Willow. I never felt the hatred towards Warren, sorry if I'm weird for that. Andrew is the character I relate most to, save Winfired, from both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel: The Series. I can't help but love season 6. 💙 And from the very first episode "I Was Made to Love You" with Warren in it, I was invested and intrigued, I remember thinking "Who is he? What's going on?". The intrigue made me actually like that episode more than it probably would have in another context or scenario of my life. Even his death was intriguing, it had my heart pounding out of my chest and took my mind a few seconds to catch up with my eyes, also the most whiplash death. "Bored Now" and I felt like I had seen that scene before even though I hadn't, I could somehow feel what she was about to do. I couldn't help but kind of wish for more screen time, that's just me. I'm not sure why or how, but Warren Mears is one of my favorite villains ever.
I was so worried that Anya would be on your dislike list, so bullet dodged. I'm mixed on Xander. I love The Zeppo and other moments that highlight his courage, but I dislike his continued sense of entitlement over Buffy('s affection). That entitlement is explicit all the way to season 6 and implied to still exist in 7. I was not sold on Andrew until Storyteller, but they got me good with that episode.
He cheated on Cordy and left Anya at the altar so those were already big crimes that made me dislike him but then like you said his sense of entitlement over Buffy that can be seen during the whole show definitely are the cherry on top of the cake.
I love spike well I don't agree with what he does in season 6, I think he doesn't get the recognition he deserves when it compared to angel story arcs on buffy unlike angel he does care and he was always a caring person even before he became a vampire when he was still William.
I think that's normal, I mean she did the swan dive at the season of season 5 after all and then gets that kind of writing in the last 2 seasons... Yeah completely normal to feel out of character.

Congratulations on making it to 10K!
11k now, congratulations!
8:32 I've always liked Faith especially her redemption on Angel.

Wolfram & Hart would like to express their dissapointment with Faith.
I am SO with you on the xander thing!
favorite
1.Xander(probably the character that made me start to love the show when i first watched it)
2.Spike(he truly is disturbed, but i think his charisma and funny character makes him one of the best characters of both shows.)
3.Buffy
4.Giles(while he sometimes doesn`t fit within some scenes, i think Giles is one of the characters most responsible for Buffy growing up to be the person she becomes, i think he had a sutle but powerful effect on the character growth of the main characters)
5.Harmony(too me this is the most tragic character in the Buffyverse, because she was never able to be good as a human being, but she was always too kind hearted to truly be evil as a vampire) So Harmony doesn`t truly have any solid place within the universe.
least favorite
1.Warren(while i like the trio as an evil group as they were quirky and different from the serious nature of some of the buffyverse`s villains, Warren just does a lot of messed up shit, but unlike Spike while he also did messed up things Spike works to try and change and fights for his own change, Warren when his actions are starting to caught up with him, he runs away.)
2.Graham(Forest i can excuse, because while i prefer him being evil with Adam, Forest while he is clearly Riley`s side kick, Graham is just the third wheel, these three to me felt like they were supposed to be a close friend group, but Graham much like Ben has no character trait or depth.)
3.Kennedy(she is barely even a character, while i like some of her chemistry with Willow sometimes, much like Ben she really has no depth as a character)
4.Ben(he got set up as some sort of love interest or at the very least a good friend of Buffy, but once Ben and Glory become the same, Ben lost any importance and potential impact as a character, it`s hard to remember sometimes that the character even existed in the Buffyverse)
5.Wilow(while i love her character, i felt like she become quiet demanding, always expecting more from the characters around her, without being able to live up to the standards she expected from the other characters.)
Great list! I also really liked Harmony especially when she was a vampire. I wish she had more screen time.
I love them all. 💙
Top favourite: Buffy Faith Willow Cordy and Tara
Least favourite: with the exception of Giles Angel and season 3 Mayor which I liked, almost all the men in the show because dear Lord they were suffering to watch and some were just a waste of screen time.
But the very least favourites are Spike Warren Xander Riley and Andrew.
Totally agree about warren and spike for Warren he was truly a horrible character and a lame big bad to me he didn't come close to glory the mayor or the master and angelous even though spike was good on angel the damage was done for me after what happened in season 6
Here's my bottom
1. Spike
2. Warren
3. Dawn
4. Adam
5. Forest
Great video, I agree with most of your points but disagree with Xander. Much like your opinion of certain characters changed as you grew older, that is the case with Xander for me. I used to like him but watching as an adult, I just find him insufferable.
My top 5 favourite:
1. Faith
2. Willow
3. Dawn
4. Spike
5. Oz
5 most hated:
1. Warren
2. Xander
3. Adam
4. Ben
5. Joyce (I don't hate her but I find a lot of her behaviours problematic)
I would love to see you repeat this video for Angel characters 💕
And from the very first episode "I Was Made to Love You" with Warren in it, I was invested and intrigued, I remember thinking "Who is he? What's going on?". The intrigue made me actually like that episode more than it probably would have in another context or scenario of my life. Even his death was intriguing, it had my heart pounding out of my chest and took my mind a few seconds to catch up with my eyes, also the most whiplash death. "Bored Now" and I felt like I had seen that scene before even though I hadn't, I could somehow feel what she was about to do. I couldn't help but kind of wish for more screen time, that's just me.
I'm not sure why or how, but Warren Mears is one of my favorite villains ever.
My favorite Buffy main characters are Xander and Anya.
I so so agree with you abut Andrew. The trio was terrible for me.
Thanks
Thank you, Dude!
@@racheldoesfandom Pleasure, you have a nice voice to wind down too ha
Love me some Buffyverse content
❤Merci
👍
I hated Angel. But I'm not a Twilight fan, either, so....
5:07 I feel like she was really out of character in the last 2 seasons.
I think that's normal, I mean she did the swan dive at the season of season 5 after all and then gets that kind of writing in the last 2 seasons... Yeah completely normal to feel out of character.
