Absolutely love my Medium Woo (s)- best accessory by far, you even customised one by welding the crossbars in place for me. Still going strong after over ten years! Greetings from the UK. BGE have now copied my other favourite accessories - Third Hand and Grill Wizard - I see a pattern.
so happy I came across this video as I am slowly acquiring add-ons for my BGE MiniMax. I will definitely buy your PS Woo rather than their EGGspander. New subscriber here!
I have two Large BGE's and two PSWoo's with stainless trays and the top sliding rack (I think it's called the PSwoo2??) that sit on top of the heat deflector (eggconvector). I wrap the stainless trays with HD foil before each cook for easy cleanup. For my needs the PSWoo is the way to go and I wouldn't have an egg without one.
It seems the Eggspander is more versatile. It has a ton of optional pieces that work hand in hand the the Eggspander. The upper extension on the Eggspander can be used to lower a cooking grate to do extreme heat grilling/searing (Cowboy Style). Cooking grates have been around forever way before CGS ever made their first one and it seems BGE has improved immensely on the PSWoo. It's not a copy like CGS is implying. The lower expanders are designed differently. The Eggspander can use the convEGGtor or 2 half moons baking stones. The half moon baking stones allow for direct and indirect cooking at the same time. With the PSWoo you are stuck with indirect or direct. Going from indirect to direct requires picking up the heavy, hot PSWoo and then gingerly removing the hot convEGGtor and finding a place safe enough to put it. Cast Iron is great to cook on. So why do so many people opt not to use cast iron in the kitchen? Because its heavy. BGE may have realized this and made their cast iron grates in half moons plus they cut down on the overall weight. Is there a big noticeable cooking difference between the heavy awkward full cast iron grates and the lighter BGE cast iron half moon grates? Another benefit to half moon items is that they are easier to store and retrieve. People usually store these in a lower area of their island or table. Being half the size it is less of an effort to bend over and pick them up. Instead of knocking the BGE Eggspander system, CGS should think about how to one up BGE with a better product.
From what we here, most folks do not agree with you. On your comparison, there is really no need to buy the extra expander grids for grilling at the lower level. With the PSWoo, put the EGG stock grid on the fire ring and set the PSWoo on it. Our upper grid on the riser is much bigger than egg's grid. If you want to do half moon stone, use the Spider - it's still cheaper than EGG. Cast iron needs mass to absorb the heat to impart the grill marks. Over my 20 years of doing this, I've all but given up on cast iron as it needs constant care and usually ends up rusting. Don't store stuff on the island or in the open, as the creatures of night come out and feast on it. Keep it all in the egg. We did come up with a better product, it's call the adjustable rig. The Adjustable Rig can do way more than the EGGspander can.
@@CeramicGrillStore I have an Eggspander and am considering the Woo or adjustable Rig for the ease of removing the platesetter. That is the biggest advantage for 99% of owners. Currently I leave the Platesetter in the set up 100% of the time, remove it all together and then set my original 18” grid down below the felt line. It’s just an eye sore. But it’s the easiest way to switch from cooking indirectly at low temperatures to grilling directly at higher temperatures. I don’t want to deal with removing hot grids and reaching over stainless steel while trying to awkwardly get the hot platesetter out.
@@CeramicGrillStorefirst of all I want to say that I have the adjustable rig and the spider and I love them both. The only thing that bothers me about the spider is that the stone sits further down into the fire box. That limits how much charcoal I can use. With Eggspander it gives you more room for more charcoal. I like the bigger sliding grid on the woo vs. the smaller one on the Egg. This is why I'm having a harder time choosing between the woo and the Eggspander. I have seen the conveggtor being taken out through the side rather than going through the top. So that is possible. Choices!
thanks for the kind words on our adjustable rig, it's my favorite for the large egg. On using the Spider/stone with the Rig, we only recommended when needed, the big cooks. Try setting the stone on the Rig's lowest notches. this will move it up above the fire ring and leave plenty of room for lump. Setting it above the fire ring will also give you more options on using a bigger stone for bigger indirect protection. Some folks will put the drip pan at one of the Rig's other settings to get it off and above the stone. Give the shot, I think you'll be pleased with the outcome. T @@JorgeChavez-xm2ew
My PSWOO does not bring grid to felt level, more like about an inch higher. The PSWOO Extender with grill touches my Thermometer and thus alters the accuracy. If the thing actually got the grill level with my felt line, and my thermometer wasn't touching the grid, then this would be an awesome accessory for my large BGE.
hi, I am curious what grill you have or how old the grill is, as the distance from felt line to fire ring in the large EGG has been at least 4.25" since the early 2000s. From your explanation, your distance has to be close to 3.25". About two years ago, the 4.25" distance increased slightly when EGG removed the ConvEGGtor notches. So on new Large EGG's, the PSWoo with grid sits a smidge lower. So we can see what's up, please send us a picture of your grill to: sales@ceramicgrillstore.com.
Just bought my first BGE LARGE and want to purchase a rig to move the grid up and offer a vegetable cooking tier above that , what kit to I buy? The woo and the slide rack? Please let me know
Ditto. Was in the market for the conveggtor basket and luckily came across the PSWoo while browsing for a better price. I got the PS Woo with the additional top rack for around the same price BGE is selling their basket alone for! The PSWoo is made in the USA to boot!
raising the cooking grid higher in a kamado grill makes it easier to grill food in the 350°F to 425°F range. You can cook direct, no deflector, and get more radiating heat into the food. At CGS, we like to go as high as we can, this let's us grill hotter with less chance to burn something.
We can but do not recommend wokking on both the large pswoo and eggpsander. The top ring on both can interfere with the handles on the wok, making it dicey at times to handle the wok. Wokking is a 500 degree cook with a bunch of hand and wok action, and with it, we promote safety first. Our Spider is best for wokking, as it does not have a top ring, so there is no interference. Plus, with the spider, you have two height options, down close to the fire or up close to the felt line. Our spider has multiple functions, including using it with the pswoo to hold 16" half stones for bigger indirect coverage or set-up half indirect, half direct when grilling. Price our pswoo and spider to the eggspander, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with pricing. CGS

@@CeramicGrillStore I appreciate you very much! My grill is from 2010 and seems like I spent $1K getting it set up, have had to have it moved about six times and has been used less than ten times.
