- Obese people are more likely to take more sick days and be off work for longer than people of a normal weight, according to a Europe-wide study.
The economic consequences of obesity are “massive”, researchers warned, while urging policymakers to “take more action”.
Talk’s Jeremy Kyle discusses this further with journalist Emma Woolf.

it is so disgusting to see these huge people when l am out,,they are costing all health care systems to the brink...and take up alot of room on the seats on the bus....
The tablet generation..... Limit their tech time, cook from scratch with your kids and get out on walks with them.
Look at Parliament before we start on public ?
😟🙁😕☹️ The whole thing is sad. It's not just one factor. It's a bit of everything. Heredity, chemicals and additives in foods. Fresh garden foods not readily available. Culture, ads, meds like tons of anti-depressants causing weight gain. There's so much, not just a lazy person. Hopefully we will all improve.
My husband is obese and has a heart condition and NEVER takes a day off sick, he worked all through covid as a community nurse and went weeks in a row without a day off and working 15 hr days, it's not about the weight it's about the attitude. He is losing weight and has lost 2 stone so far, but his weight has never affected him going to work or how much work he does. He's not lazy at all but not having time to eat at work as he drives between patients and doesn't have enough time to take a lunch break if he does he won't get to his patients on time and his day is even longer.
Well some Nurses are very Obese too. They are on their feet all day. When they start telling us the public to lose weight, we lose faith. I do think its alot of fizzy drinks and big bags of crisp are to blame. Snacking !……
I wouldn't be surprised if it was night shifts. Working nights fucks up your body, your sleep cycles and your metabolism, and a lot of medical workers have to do it
I really hate that Emma Woolf is being so vocal and kind of rude about this given her history of anorexia and the fact that that is considered an illness whereas she seems to not be considering obesity as an illness. She has every right to speak on this issue but some compassion would not go amiss. Eating disorders are awful. Anorexia and obesity are just two sides of the same coin.
Bring an anorexic on to talk about obesity. This is RICH.
And T.V presenters too !
Fat ppl know know it is about healthy eating and exercise. But you hsve to look at the underlying causes whats driving obesity. Yes, lets tackle obesity. I agree we need to be more healthier. But its not just about eating and exercising. Theres more to obesity then just diet and exercise. I have hidden disabilities. So i struggle with doing moderate to intensive exercise. I am trying to lose weight but its not that easy when you are disabled or poorly. No educational courses with help with my weight issues. As a disabled person, i need practical help to help me lose my weight but disabled ppl struggle to get proper practical support these days. I agree we need to lose weight and be more healthy but a course will not help obese people
Any person's weight is private and no-one else's business, and they have no right to judge either.
but they cost the health care system a fortune..they all need gastric bands or gastric bypass.
I don't care if they fund their own health care..news flash they don't
Covid?
You're a few years out of date.
