Hi Rainy, I hadn't made a children's cake for 25 years so when my son asked me to make a pirate ship cake for his little daughter's fifth birthday - I said ....you had better have a back up plan! But thank you so much for your tutorial video . It was brilliant and it works. Took hours but lots of fun and we were all thrilled with the results. So bless you for sharing your skills. Thank you x
Thank you so much for the lovely feedback! ♥️ Well done on the cake & I am so pleased that you found my tutorial helpful. I would love to see the cake you made - I bet it was amazing! If you are on Instagram then you can share a photo of your cake & tag me in it (#rainyjscakes or #rainyjohnson), or share it with me on my Facebook cake page 'Rainy J's Cakes'. Thanks again so much ♥️ Rainy xxx
Thank you so much for this easy to follow video! My 4 year old asked for a pirate ship cake for his birthday and I was so worried I was gonna fail miserably, but thanks to you I nailed it and he loved it! Tasted amazing too. Thank you so much xx
Hi Katie! I'm so pleased you found this recipe easy to follow and that your son loved it! Really well done!! Whenever I make a celebration cake I'll try to put a tutorial up for it too because I always find other people's tutorials helpful for me too. Love Rainy xxx
Hi, thank you for watching my video. It's been a while since I made it but I think I would have used 1-2 packs (250g each pack) of brown fondant for this project. 1 would probably do it but I like to err on the side of caution. I hope this helps 😊 love Rainy xxx
Hi Erica, thank you so much for your comment 😊 so you can bake the chocolate cake weeks in advance then as soon as they're out, give them about 30 mins or so to cool then you can wrap them in cling film (plastic wrap) and a layer of foil (aluminium wrap) if you like and store it in your freezer until you need it. I wrap mine whilst they're still fairly warm as this tends to keep my cakes naturally moist. Then when you're ready to decorate it, defrost it thoroughly then you'll be able to frost your cake, carve it and decorate it as shown in the video. I tend to decorate my cakes 1-2 days before they're needed as the fondant and ganache layer protect the cake from drying out. I hope this helps. Happy baking!! 😊 Rxxx
Hi Tia, I would say that this size of cake would serve around 15-20 people depending on the size of your slices and whether they were children or adults eating. If you needed it to serve more you could use a bigger square cake pan and incorporate the 4th rectangle of cake (I only used ¾ of the 9" cake for my recipe)? It'd just be a taller ship. Or you could bake some cupcakes to go with the main cake? I hope this helps. Rxxx
Well, it just so happens I have another kids cake in the pipeline 😊 I'm so sorry I haven't put a video up for a while - we've had a bout of sickness in out family and a ton of things on, so finding time has been difficult. But I will hopefully have my next video up by next week. Thanks so much for watching! Love Rainy xxx
Sorry had to got to another video... it was a little to fast for me and l found myself playing it over and over so l can see what was actually happening...
Apologies for these comments - Video way too fast, your heads gets in the way, you cannot see properly how it is constructed, should have done the video from the front not the top of your head - beautiful cake though :)
Thank you for your feedback, it's really helpful to see how I can improve my videos 😊 This was in our old house where I had limited kitchen space, but I am hoping to have a better setup in our new house. Best wishes, Rainy xxx ❤️
Hiya, thank you for your feedback. Yes, there was a point in my filming where my phone stopped recording and I didn't realise. So unfortunately some aspects were not filmed so I had to just describe what I did instead of being able to show it. But I will do my best to clearly film each aspect of my cake decorating process for future. Best wishes, Rainy xxx

Hi! The recipe you've included for the cake, is that for just one 9" square pan or to make the whole cake? Many thanks!
Hi Suzi, thanks for watching my video. The recipe is for 2 9" cake pans 😊 all the best with it! Rainy xxx

The camera never showed what you was doing so it was very frustrated
