- For my Presets visit: johnnathancord... Well, so the Dumble thing is sort of an interest for me, but is obviously out of reach....However, I got my hands on this Ceriatone OTS which I'm really digging...
www.buymeacoff... - if you like what I do and only if you wanted, you could buy me a coffee!
Absolutely love your touch as you play such melodic lines. The tone and sophistication in your playing skill make me so envious. I Keep coming back. God bless.
I usually come here to for the gear used and then I don't care for the gear anymore, because I am busy stealing your licks :) Big thumbs up for the playing!
I've owned several D-clones: a few of them Ceriatones. I've built over a dozen of them for other people who didn't want to wait to have them built by the companies. With that qualifier out of the way, the problem with doing ANY type of demo, shootouts, "first play," etc is that they take about a month, give or take depending on one's experience with these type amps, the model and how they'll perform with your rig (cabinet/speakers, board, IRs if you're using them…) to get a handle on them and figure out how to dial them in.
I figured it out after the first 3-4 times I built them for others that a recurring theme was when I talked to them a week or two after they brought them home to make sure everything was okay and how they liked them I would hear "yeah it sounds great, but…" then get some version of them feeling a bit underwhelmed. A few months later however they would all change from that, to "oh it's the only all i ever want to use." Maybe not a complete 180, but definitely 160⁰ turn. I figured out that it was best to advise them to try using a compressor set really low early on, especially with the HRMs, and ESPECIALLY if they don't already use them and are used to Tweeds or high gain amps that tend to have a lot of compression naturally.
While now it's a different story with all the options you have to deal with loud amps today, 10 years ago+ they were definitely not an amp you'd want to buy a 100W version of unless you're REALLY in a scenario where you can play them loud. I honestly can't think of any Master volume equipped amps that are so volume dependent to get them to sound and play as they're intended. Hell, I had a 50W SSS than I ended up selling in less than year because it was just so punishingly loud, I can't imagine what the 150W one SRV must have been like. I'm actually surprised Ceriatone hasn't done a 22-25W version of them. Even if you play live and need some headroom you'd have plenty. I love Fender Blackface Deluxe Reverbs but I don't think they're as great as a pedal platform as they're often touted to be, at least in their stock form: they're really scooped in the midrange frequencies (especially the reissue) and the bright cap on the reverb channel can make a lot of distortion/fuzz and ODs too harsh and shrill. The Silverface Custom Deluxes are better in those areas but they don't have the headroom and the build quality and components aren't nearly as good as the MIA Blackface.
Still, you seem to have figured it out. 👍
This is a great post, I'm considering a Ceriatone OTS 20 and this is good info for me! I really like the dumble sound - both cleans and overdrive, and I'm thinking this is the amp for me. One thing that has become very important to me lately is the feel of an amp - that's my main hesitation with ordering something online. Do you think the Ceritones have that nice springy feel you get with a Fender 6L6 amp?
Srv. And people playing stadiums huge venues. Is different thing . They want super loud and a lot of head room.
@@godbyone clearly. But if you were able to actually hear one, you'd see that they're especially loud, louder than other amps with the same wattage. But it's not just that it can be turned up really loudly. Anyone who's played through a tube amp will know that the master volume has
a sweet spot. If the volume is below that, there's a lot of compression that's rolling off the highs and lows, and it doesn't have as much as that dynamic response to your playing. If it's higher you start to get break-up and it increases the compression.
But when you get to that spot the sound just opens right up. It becomes super responsive to your touch and pick attack and it just has that big and full sound.
With Dumbles and the clones that are faithful to the amp they're coming (as opposed to amps that are based on the Dumble circuit like Fuchs and Two Rock), that sweet spot tends to be at much higher master volume levels than the common amps. So it's not just that when you crank them, the pressure from the sound wave is great enough to liquefy your internal organs, it's that you kind of have to play them loud to get the most out of them, otherwise it's like driving a Lamborghini with your left foot slightly pushing down on the brake the whole time.
Bro stop messing around and get a Marshall Major.
@@snoolee7950 f'ck that. An all but unusable amp. 100W Super Leads are all but unusable, 200W renders it useless.
came for the amp. stayed for the playing.
Sounds beautiful! Beautifully played as always but that tone lovely 👌🏼 I like!
Love the runs in this. It’d be sick to see a vid on your approaches to sequences. Eg. 1:13 1:30 1:47 2:02
Ooh good idea....Let me set a reminder...
Tom Quayle style legato riff!!! Very clean!! Has a Tim Pierce vibe also!!
Cool. I've always fancied one of the ceriatone dumble clones. I've got one of their klon clones and it's great
Had one for 5 years and loved it. I just ended up becoming more of a “pedal platform” guy and this amp works better when using its gain/channel switching.
That and I got tired of messing with the passive fx loop and the Kleinulator all the time and using essentially a 6 cable method.
Awesome! I got a Ceriatone OTS FM Modern Eagle with built in C-lator. It absolutely sings! Great vid!
Oh awesome! Do you think the c lator is necessary btw?
@@johnnathancordy I will hopefully have a definite answer on this tomorrow (strymon volante inbound!).
Typically I've run my effects through the front end and I'm happy with that, as I haven't used delay with it and only small amount of reverb. But with the volante I'm pretty sure that could get messy through the front end. So I'll run it through the Clator when it arrives and will hopefully have a better answer for you then!
@@IceGuitarist23 was it necessary?
We will never know...
This guy has a different sense of melody. Like Jeff Beck
Nice!
Would’ve liked to hear some overdrive sounds…
✌🏼
The tone is as good as the playing. ✔️
Bellissimo suono cosa hai usato come cabinet? Speaker ecc
Lovely tone and playing 👍
Wonderful. Love 2 hear you hit the other channel please!
How did it compare to VHT D50? Nice picking
Beautiful tone and very tasteful playing. 👍
Love that tone... Currently looking to buy a Ceriatone. Lovely playing dude. Are you using any pedals or is this clip guitar straight in to the amp?
wow!!! amazing tone!!!!
Love your playing by the way 💖
I have the OTS mini 20 and all though unintuitive in its controls, it sounds lightyears ahead of anything else..... And that's before you hit the drive
Whatever that was you were plugged into, that playing was specially good.
Killer playing!!
Great sound! Curious what the make of the guitar is?
Kline springfield
Great video! I have an OTS50. What settings did you have on the amp and how is it being recorded?
Hi, what audio interface do you use ?
The Ceriatone OTS amps sing symphonically...
Sweet playing! How are you running your effects? Did you oot for the buffered effects loop or are you using a dumbleator clone?
Nice. Do you think the Dude through the California Tweed (or through other gear) sounds in the same ballpark?
What speaker are you using with your OTS? Thanks!
Hey Sam! I think I was using a Mesa Widebody open back cab with a celestion c90 in it
Sounds incredibly sweet. What reverb were you using?
So in short. Yes.
the third chord is coming! the third chord is coming! nope
Do you have something against the bridge pickup? 😂 lol great playing man as always.
Yeh the neck pickup sounds better.....ha!
@@johnnathancordy I agree. I have little use for the bridge pickup on strat-style guitars unless I’m playing really high gain.
You've had this awhile. For Others out here are looking in this direction, What do you think of the amp now that you've had time to really work with it? It sound really good in this clip. Is it an amp sound you love ?
Personally I found the Mesa mark 3 a bit easier to work with!
Which flavour of OTS is this? Sounds really sweet!
Ots 50 - the bog standard
@@johnnathancordy any effects/processing on the guitar? Guitar straight into the amp? This is the tone I’ve been looking for... :)
@@spinningdorito I use a "Fender Reverb Unit" (with the Ceriatone OTS) - You don't need anything else to get this sound !
Just placed an order for mine with Nik today, the wait begins.... :)
