This was an AMAZING video! You dropping a comment means the world on this side. Thanks so much for the content you put out, it is heart warming, and real, and NEEDED! Sorry I made you cry! It seems we are even now :) Much much love and respect! Always in your corner.
We will never forget what these brave men did for the Netherlands and Europe. I will pass on the stories to my kids so they know that freedom came at a price.
I’m American. I’m overwhelmed that the Dutch have individually adopted every grave of ever Allied fallen soldier buried in Netherlands. Most since 1946, most passed down in the same family throughout generations. Thanks for caring for our fallen so very well.🇺🇸🇳🇱🇨🇦🇬🇧🇵🇱
To see actual soldiers that liberated us.. its like looking at angels. At a wonder. Their numbers dwindle each year. Soon, there will be none left. We cherish them: more then jewelry. More then any money can buy. It brings a grown man to tears, to see them: still alive.
I am studying History in the Netherlands. Because I want to be an history teacher. I visited a lot of cemetery's of ww2 veterans. It is such a beautiful but chilling site all those men who fighted for our freedom. We will always remember those who still stand or have fallen. And allot of people think the same here I can tell because all those times I visited an cemetery there where allot of people visiting as well. Sometimes I needed to wait to read something. Love your genuine reaction in the video. Take care and kind regards Hessel
I'm overwhelmed with emotions.. watching your last couple of videos with you learning about the history of my country simultaneously made you a teacher to me about my own country. Thank you for that, seriously.
I love youre reaction. As a Dutch we never wil forget the old and new veterans. I am a sailor on a ocean geing salvage tug. Ive never seen combat but battled the sea many time. No sivilian wil understand that seeing the death in the eyes. So i can relate to that feeling.
The gratitude to the liberators in the Netherlands is huge. Still. We are all aware of the war and how we are liberated, especially by the Canadians. Our kids are educated with this history. We will never forget this.
My kids already know everything! As we did...And a small story from my side. Only 60 meters from my house is a Church called Witmarsum Protestant Churchyard and contains five graves of airmen who fell on May 28, 1943. Three of them came from the United Kingdom (Sergeant Peter Cosgrove, Sergeant James Fitchett and Sergeant Eric Short), one from Canada (Flying Officer Stanley Bishop) and one from Australia (Flight Sergeant Arthur Chapman). The flew in 1943 to a city called Essen in Germany to bomb that area. On there way back the plane was hit by a German Jager and crashed just at the edge of my village into the countryside. Three man from the crew survived the rest found there way on the graveyard of Witmarsum Friesland in the Netherlands. The graves are kept well by the community, and there is even a website about he story...Still lots of respect for those young guys who gave their lifes.
That lady that witnessed the liberation... that gave me goosebumps aswell, it must have been felt like angels were coming down from the sky! We will never forget who gave back our freedom
I can tell this touched you deeply. It did me too. It brought back the memories of my dads stories from when he was a US Navy Seabee in WWII. Amazing what you all went through. Thank you very much for your service Highly.
from childhood we're taught about the war, what happened, what it ment.. as kids on elementary school we would go to graveyards to learn more and pay our respects to our fallen saviors. My parents, school, at boy scouts, everywhere we where taught about the war, and in my turns I teach my children the same lessons. National Remembrence day is something very important, my grandparents lived through WW2, and because they where liberated and survived the war we where able to be born. Everybody that is alive today in formerly occupied territory owes their life to these people. That's why we think it's so important, and that's exactly why it's so important to never let this happen again.
My deepest respect for these people. And for the ones that didn’t make it back home. We will never forget the sacrifices that they made. Such a beautiful video!
My deepest respects for all those young guys and girls who came over here to fight a war that was far from their backyard. This is the least we can do. Honor them.
It’s heartwarming to see these aged veterans being celebrated for what they did. The greatest show of respect they can receive is for the world to never forget them. They deserve every bit of attention they can possibly receive. 👏👏❤️🇨🇦🇺🇸
07:44 "We can explain how something went, but it's impossible to explain how it feels" ... I think that says it all. A #ThankYouForYourService is just not enough!
Thanks for the Great video! May the vets long live ! Appreicate their service! This comes from a soviet fella whos great grand fathers foughted in WW2. One defending Odessa in 1941 in July-August and with just a platoon he was able to hold the advancement of the whole army for two long hours. Allowing civilians and other troops to flee the city of Odessa who would fall to enemy. grampa badly wounded barely made it alive on the last ship. He survived the war, was a respectable man who toughed me everything. Never bragged about this and always remembered with sadness and tears.. It took many years for him to get better, yet he was silent about war. There were secrets.... Just after he passed away i found out about the battle, him in the old newspapers. Oh God, those man.. They saw hell.. Literally. .. They alll fought for humanity, no matter their nationality and race. We cant just forget that. Cant allow another World War. We need peace! So for those of ye who get to read this message, know that in case Hell breaks loose, no matter, Russians, Ukrainians,French, German , Italians etc . We are all brothers and sisters. Stay merciful and remember that back in the day our great great parents, ancestors might aswell fight along side eachother. Peace and love to each and everyone! No matter the political or religious bs! My regards!
I had the honor recently of donating some original WW2 chapel service programs to the 11th Airborne's new chapel in Alaska, as I deal in militaria and came across these. The "Arctic Angels" as they are now called were recently reactivated, and the original 11th was one of the most famous airborne divisions during the war being heavily involved in the Pacific. Both my grandfather my uncle, who were also brothers (married sisters), served in WW2, grandpa in Europe and uncle "Keo" in the Pacific. They ARE America's Greatest Generation. The programs were one of a kind, very rare and valuable, but I would not want them anywhere else. I cried too. I always do. Just thinking about what they sacrificed, and where we are now. God bless these Angels.
Hey man, stumbled upon your channel. Love the Dutch content and it hits like no one else can explain. Living in Germany nowadays as a Dutch, i feel, see that Germans dont get our stance on freedom, given from those who liberated my grandparents. I miss my grandfather each day a bit more. He survived a concentration camps. And he thought me pike no one else, that our freedom was hard fought for, lives of young men sacrificed. And now in Germany, I'm heavily misunderstood by many, if not all, regarding this topic. I dont blame them, for not having grandparents who experienced and learned from the ww2, but still, telling people here, I'm taking 2 minutes of silence on the 4th of May is misunderstood.
Thank you. And what struck me is that woman who was telling about her memory of those parachutes appearing in the sky. The age difference with the veteran wasn't that much, which shows how young these boys were that were basically fed to the lions. Absolute heroes.
did you notice the pride of the children on meeting the vets they are taught what they did for there country they are shown by their parents and grandparents to be grateful on what the vets did for them, lets hope future generation will show the same respect for the people who fought and died for a simple concept called freedom.
thx for the publication of this video..... i had to watch it two times due to research, now was my third time, and im not gonna watch it again for, lets say the next 10 yrs., it brings back too many emotions, thx for your insights and pls stay safe.... grts from an old Nijmegenaar, now living in Germany....
We had a Canadian Veteran and his wife in our house for a few days to celebraite the liberation in our town. So the dont have to go to a hotel or B&B. It whas A expiring we wil never forget
@BestDefenseFoundation @Highly Combustible Reacts 100% Respect from me to you and all the missing vet,s and the living vet,s that their have give us the freedom that what we live in now
Some of the footage showed Margarten Cemetery, I grew up near there and many a times I went there (to take flowers and little flags that were donated by merchants where I lived) I was in the boy scouts, and we went there to clean up the graves, rake leaves, wash the little crosses etc, that was before that got a lot more organized. I saw people there that were wondering why we were doing that. I also lived inNijmegen, for a good while, where WWII veterans are welcomed as the heroes they are. There's a square in Nijmegen called "Plein 1944", accidentally bombed by the allies (de geallieerden) in 1944... The 'allies' airforce thought they already were in germany lready... the locals.. "oh well ... sh*t happens..."
Thanks for sharing this. Im Dutch and, so grateful to be free. Our liberators are loved here. I grew up with these stories from my grandparents and visited Margraten. Seeing this tears me up. Now i got 2 little girls and they will grow up free. I will make sure they know where their freedom is coming from.
Especially the Canadian veterans are very popular here, they liberated Zeeland province with heavy losses, they alos fought their way across the East of the country after the loss at Market Garden (Arnhem).
I don't have to go to any foreign place to visit a battlefield, it was right here in my backyard, many don't understand, that is why the dutch will never forget!
This is my home, I know most places this was filmed, some of these streets I walk every day. It really hits home to see these people I owe so much to. I probably would not be here if they would not have come.
My dad was born in 1941 and was a little boy in 1945, but the memory of the American soldiers stayed with him his whole life. The first candy he ever ate was one given by an American soldier. Hi there, my advice is check out some more about operation ´´Market Garden´´ WII. We have an annually commemoration and that is really very impressive. From 16 to 18 september there will be all kind of activities in and around Nijmegen, Arnhem, etc.
I came from 2 families, both living in September 1944 about 100 meters from General Urquhart's headquarters. Would you like to show you in what circumstances they lived those September days, or how we still remember and celebrate those days, yes we celebrate Aiborne in September. If anyone can show me some of this, I'd be very honored.
Our direct connection to this history will soon be lost when the last Soldier, Sailor, and Marine from the Greatest Generation goes to Valhalla to be with their brothers and sisters in arms forever.
Not many people (Dutch or Americans) know that the Dutch helped to establish America and helped them for years with the freedom fight! The Dutch were the first in the world to recognize America as a country, free from British rulings.
My grandpa did not believe in God. But he always said that when he saw the paratroopers he knew there was a God, because he send his angels down from heaven.
Never ever will us Dutchies forget. I know. is getting weary, but George Santana was SO RIGHT!. Lest not forget! And you Paul, again, fix the blur after the first few seconds. 😉
God bless you Highly for your reaction. We Dutch indeed don't forget what the Americans did for us and Europe. Freedom is something you have to fight for. Even now. That's why we are one of the most loyal friends of the USA to this day.
I watch your videos with great pleasure and added emotion. However, I have 1 question. Have you ever been to the Netherlands yourself? Otherwise I would like to invite you. To come to the Netherlands. I live in the Netherlands, Kind regards, Wesley
If you go to places like Margraten or Bastogne, you will see that our freedom has been paid for by jong heroes ,who where from far away shores. But stil gave their life to vanquish the Nazis.
When I was 17. Should I stand up for the Military Service INSPECTION! Just like a cattle market. 2 hours wait and 3 minutes Ophthalmologist. REJECTED! final! Okay, what if war breaks out here again? Am I gone or underground? Can I shoot well?
You've got a point. I do think, though, that even if there had been no NSBers the Netherlands could have stopped the Germans; larger countries weren't able to keep them out either.
Dude! Thank you for doing this! I'm over here crying watching my own video from your perspective hahaha!
This was an AMAZING video! You dropping a comment means the world on this side. Thanks so much for the content you put out, it is heart warming, and real, and NEEDED! Sorry I made you cry! It seems we are even now :) Much much love and respect! Always in your corner.

They certainly don't make men like them anymore. My father was one of those men.
Looks like this one hit you hard HCR. Will you be ok?
All these sacrifices wouldn't have been necessary if we wouldn't have let de enemy walk in in the first place.
That's wistful thinking. They're was no way for a country as small a the Netherlands to keep the enemy from 'walking in'.
@@joeycee2585 The enemy was already inside, called the NSB.
You've got a point. I do think, though, that even if there had been no NSBers the Netherlands could have stopped the Germans; larger countries weren't able to keep them out either.
