The humility of Mary Ellen and Helena Christensen ... learnt a lot
Loved the interview with Mary Ellen Mark and Helena Christensen. Great questions and incredibly fascinating! Bravo! Dave Christensen, Director, Harvey Milk Photo Center, San Francisco.
Two very humble and intelligent individuals both of whom clearly love photography as an art form.
It is so refreshing with 2 photographers who gave a lot to photography yet so down to earth thank you
I have always been influenced by the truth of an image. Mary Ellen Mark's work captured a truth in the moment of capture that always spoke to me. This is why her work inspired me to be more authentic in most of my images with developing a relationship with what is in front of the lens to capture the subject's true self better. SO glad to have found this interview. Thank you Mark!
I just bought Prom and Twins off Amazon. I have been wanting copies for years, but finally did it after watching this episode. I'm just an ordinary small town photographer, but I never edit prom photos without thinking about Mary Ellen.
Some of the below comments complained of the music in the video. I didn't notice it because I was so focused on what was being presented by the two photographers. Not condemning those who thought otherwise, but it just didn't distract from my enjoyment of the video. I have no complaints. This was very inspiring and encouraging. Appreciate you sharing this with us.
Very nice interview with two photographers that tells you photography doesn't have to be super razor sharp and perfect but instead, capturing the essence of the story of the subject, emotion as well as authenticity & sincerity.

Cool. It's also not about the equipment per se, but if one has good eyes, that's all that is required....
Sorry, but for me ``Studio Quality Photography is FujiColor or KodakColor high-resolution and Ultra-High Contrast Portraits and and do ``NOT`` like any monochrome Black and White Photography and Grain visible or artifacts in Photographic Subjects``. The Photograhers in the Video Audio would ``FAIL`` given by above Objective Science Specifications!!!!!!!!!
wow really?
Mary Ellen Mark was my favorite female photographer as a student photographer....then I lost track of her and wow after seeing this I can see why! Thanks for doing this!!!
Mary Ellen seems so humble but in a authoritative way!! She knows where she is but is almost shy to admit it but on the other hand accepts it! She is an inspiration!! :-)
Great vid by the way :-)
What a great interview, I never new Helena Christensen was a photographer.
Wow I just fell in love withboth of these women and their work. In awe of Mary Ellen Mark and wonderfully surprised by Helena. What a great pair of human beings.
It's nice to view some real imaging produced by these two lovely ladies. The world is filled with tooo much glitzy overly saturated color. Thanks for sharing.
It might have been 10 years ago but it made my day!! Bravo!!
Wow truely inspirational, taking a photo for a specific purpose and not just taking photos for the sake of it. Thinking about composition etc without just snapping away hoping for good photo. Two inspirational ladies. Thank you
RIP Mary Ellen Mark. Wonderful soul and extraordinary photographer
Beyond anything, this interview was a beautiful and intimate look at the absolute power of photography and how lucky we all are that it exists. These two women produce such good work because they understand that power and are humble. This particular episode was really moving and inspirational. Thank you for making my day.
The most remarkable interview I have seen for the last years. Thank you so much!
I am sitting here in aww
Two exceptional Photographers loved the show
This is a wonderful, inspiring interview. It's photography gold. It's a lesson, its a bible, it's a revelation. Photography is an integral and essential part of my life. It's a personal thing that gives back. Mary Ellen Mark is todays discovery for me if she is yours and you gain from this you may in turn become someone elses discovery.
This was a wonderful episode. I've been in a bit of a rut lately only photographing clients and have needed a bit of a push to just strap on a 50mm and just wander about and interact with whomever on the street. Videos like this help light that fire for me to go make beautiful pictures for myself and not for a deadline or a critical eye. Just for passion. I hope there are many others out there that just got the same goosebumps. Have a wonderful time making images everyone. :)
Great interview, also love the stylish fashion photos of the 50s and 60s and of course intimate portraits to emotion and soul.
Rest in peace Mary Ellen Mark. A great photographer.

This whole series is fantastic and I hope you will create more. The background information on the artist and images is immensely valuable. As a photographer, it is inspiring to get these insights. One more thing...in the world of photography where men have dominated, I'd like to ask that you please include more female photographers in your upcoming episodes. Thank you!

Thank you
I don't know why but Im going to cry.
Excellent interview.
Mary Ellen Mark, what a beautiful woman and such a fantastic photographer. Helena, you are not so bad looking yourself.
I guess from my perspective, I really wonder what these classic photographers from the past think of modern day RUclips photographers and how the modern mentality of post processing photos has affected the “here and now” creativity experienced by the photographer on the ground when pictures need to be captured as perfect as possible in camera. Please do a video on this photography topic. I personally would like to know what these great film photographers from the past say. Thanks.
Thanks for this. I just am discovering it now. It's wonderful.
Appreciate youtube videos like this thank you awesome content.

Beautiful and incredibly inspiring. Wonderful.
I came across this video by chance after watching your normal generic videos of what digital camera you need to be a photographer. As she said, it's not about camera. I wish I could buy her talent.
