Hello D&J, I'm the lady who requested this journey. I'm so extremely grateful that you carried out this trip. It has made me so emotional seeing my mothers house in Springers Gap once again. I also saw my fathers house in Station Hill opposite the prison. I will also put in another request for the Southpoint lighthouse to St Christopher's girl school in Silver Sands, but I don't want to overwhelm you both at this point. You both are doing a wonderful job. Keep up the great work. God bless you both.
Thanks for your kind remarks, and we are happy that we could do this for you. Incidentally we started preparations for a South Point journey including the Lighthouse. Thanks for your support. Please share with other Barbadians living overseas
Thank you so much for this driving tour of Barbados, i left Barbados as a child of 12 in 1958, an only made it back twice, i live in North West England UK. An this makes me so home sick, although my memories of places are fading. I was Born in the Orleans, then live in an area called Dunnermer Land, an also 4th Avenue Beckels Hill. I remember as a small child child going to a school called Mrs Brown Private school, think it be like what's niw known as pre school. But i attended St.Mathias Girl School before leaving to come to England. I remember place names like Brittons Hills, an Queens park, Brown Beach. Cave Shepherd stores. Once again thank you for trips down the land of my Birth. Many thanks, an Blessings to you an your Son .
Great videos D&J. I especially love your accent and narration of the names of roads, buildings and places of interest. My suggestion for a video for us overseas is to drive and show 3 or 4 (possibly more) of your favourite food places / restaurants as you have made reference to pudding and souse as well as fish cakes in some of your videos. Keep up the awesome work. Thanks.
Thanks for sharing such beautiful videos ❤! Can you do a video for Society Hill, St. John please. I only seen footage of the city and not the countryside. Watching from Pennsylvania.
Barbados and Jamaica have the two oldest schools in the Caribbean. Combermere which was called Drax Parish school established in 1695. Wolmer school in Jamaica kept it's original name was founded in 1729 making it the oldest in the Caribbean
BTW about Waterford Road …research will show that the Cut Rock was done by The Irish Slaves who In the 17th century, during the period of English colonization, many Irish people, particularly prisoners of war, rebe 1:19 ls, and the poor, were sent to the Caribbean, including Barbados, as indentured servants or penal laborers. These individuals were often subjected to brutal treatment and exploitation, but they were not considered property in the same way as African slaves. There is (or was) a plaque about half way on Waterford Road that shows the history of carving that road 😊
Very interesting video on Station hill, Glendary Prison etc. Incidentally the police station you visited was once the Home of Captain Raison, an Englishman who was in charge of The Royal Police Band and was responsible for many training visits to London U.K. with The Band where they became very versed in classical music.
I gew up very close to Glendary Prison, as boys we played cricket in the grounds of district A police station before all the buildings were constructed. I even got to see my brother's house on the video.
Hi, D&J nice work again especially showing the springer Memorial and the Combermere School. Combermere is one of the oldest secondary schools in the west Indies...en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combermere_School
