Don't target and object when you're collecting with your limpets, they will shut down once they've collected it unless you select another target before they return Just let them go without a target and they will collect everything in range. You can omit items in the left hand menu if you don't want them to be collected in future, and discard them via the right menu. Far easier that way.

Hey Foxy, I wanted to say that I love so much your willingness to just throw yourself into situations, try everything yourself, and not be deterred by short term failures, rather than just research the meta solution for everything on the internet and miss out on the valuable and enjoyable experience of learning from your mistakes (even tho I'm sure you know the commonly accepted solution to every problem is out there if you were to just go and look it up). This is a rare and admirable attitude to playing a game that's been out as long as Elite has. Pirates attack you, because you have valuable cargo in your cargo bay. They also try to steal it by using hatch breaker limpets (they open your ship and let your cargo out). Hint: don't collect cargo (you can add it to ignore list on left panel), only materials. Also: you can check what materials are floating around on left panel. Plus - you better install shield boosters (a lot of them) - you don't need so many heat sinks.

  • @alexzk3

Start your quest for the "guardian FSD booster", it's up-to +10.5ly free range in exchange for the slot used. Also you may want to unlock 3 guardians' fighters as you like it (repeat another quest 3 times). Those are top-speed beasts.
When you target something before limpet launch it will pick only this 1 thing and will be quick, without initial target it will just pick all a bit slower.
Also you don't have to hunt "chemical processor" - just collect everything they drop, then exchange at the trader for what you need.

    • @austinm5630
      @austinm5630 Год назад +1

I'm sure you already know this, but for Foxy's benefit: the Guardian FSD booster is a flat boost that ignores your ship's mass. For this reason, it is much more useful on, for example, the "Imperial Corvette" than on a typical exploration ship like the Krait. A size 5 one will give your Corvette 10.5ly more range regardless of whether you weigh the ship down with another thousand tons of equipment or not.
So yes, I highly second this suggestion, get the Guardian FSD booster. Plus I'd love to see you reaction to visiting the guardian surface sites.
When you do, make sure you equip a point defense utility module on your ship. I'm not going to spoil it but trust me on that. You'll know why when it happens ;)

Absolutely correct about the "grind". For me, progression is what the game is about - it is even named after some of the top combat ranks. I spent last night doing missions, gathering materials and visiting on-foot engineers to get a couple of minor upgrades on a rocket launcher that I had barely tried before (and never made improvements to). First I had to find a place that sold the basic weapon! The ED Materials Helper app helped me choose the right materials to pick up, or trade for, or seek on missions. This is why I upgraded other ships, suits, weapons - to make it easier to upgrade this one! That's the game for me, along with seeing the beautiful sights and surprising locations on the way, and other people's lovely ships. Oh, and using my freshly-modified rocket launcher after all the work and sense of achievement? Bliss!

@@Foxyloxy.X, you should also know that there are a few places where you can _farm_ high-grade materials in each class (Encoded, Raw, and Manufactured). If you plan to do a lot of engineering this is really the best way. You farm for high-grade mats, then go to a material trader and trade down to fill up your material inventory. The higher the grade of mats, the fewer you can carry. For grade 1 you can carry 300, for grade 5 only 100. Farming mats is boring but it's 100 times faster than hunting them down in the black and it makes engineering a new ship _much_ faster, especially for the very rare things like Chemical Processors.
Also, a couple of point defense turrets on your utility slots near the cargo hatch and cockpit will stop hatch breaker limpets and missiles.

The signal source you should look for is "combat aftermatch" in high security systems.Tip: also look for "high grade emission" signals, they give high grade materials you can trade at a material trader (in this case manufactured), it is best to trade low grade materials for high grade ones. Also dont carry any cargo(exept limpets) in a extraction zone when farming materials, they will swarm you.

A system in the "outbreak" state such as LTT 9697 might be a good place to hunt. Pharmaceutical Isolators (grade 5) can drop from the high grade signal sorces. These can be traded for chemical processors. 1 PI gets you 27 CPs. That's why if you can get the high grade stuff and trade down. Oh Foxy my friend - loved this video but 'Imperial Corvette'!!! (gnashes teeth in Federal). Well done on getting your Corvette - truly one of the best combat ships but it was so painful watching you get destroyed; so glad you were keeping an eye on the rebuy at least! You're at the point in the game where you need to think in terms of ship management and roles - the Corvette is a great combat ship and very good for hauling cargo securely but lousy as a jack-of-all-trades vessel. If you're going into combat then be thinking in terms of power management (those big lasers strip your power down), Pip management (no pips assigned to your shields and hardly to your weapons but all to your engine?!?) and outfitting. If I equip my Corvette for combat then most of the cargo space is filled with module and hull reinforcement modules (apart from a Fighter Bay and Limpet Collector); the external points fitted with a Heat Sink Launcher, Chaff Dispenser and 2 point Defence - one at the rear and one at the front - to defeat missiles and annoying limpets and then everything else fitted with shield boosters. So glad that you're using the limpets to collect materials - just make sure you've killed everything before you start ;-) Materials can be traded so the more you collect the more you can swap for higher value mats if you need to; all materials are worthwhile and are swapped between your ships - likewise your modules so maybe you can upgrade your Krait with some of the modules from your Corvette (it's a lot cheaper in Insurance...) if you're going combat farming for materials. The Corvette needs a lot of engineering to make it truly enjoyable (fully outfitted the cost of re-buying is punitive) - not just your FSD, every aspect can be modified for example, a single small laser set to thermal venting would help with the heat issues; I suggest you focus upon getting your power plant, distributor and thrusters engineered as a priority so that power management and flying becomes a lot more effective; then weapons (heh, just you wait until you get some *proper* sized multicannons on that ship) and then hull reinforcement, shield efficiency and boosters etc. There's also the whole Guardian route to go that would make your ship even more of a beast (for that I suggest a Diamondback Explorer, stripped down for weight and the highest engineered FSD you can get). I think Anacondas and Imperial ships like the Clipper and Cutter are pretty good for Chemical processors - it's been awhile since I went farming for Mats.
Sorry about the essay. Love the videos. Stay safe Commader.

Still catching up on your videos Foxy. (And still hoping to see you among the stars, in-game.)
Another video, another round of advice!
    1) You also gain some faction with the SuperPower of the local Controlling Minor Faction if you sell them that Cartographic data I keep telling you about. Use that Discovery Scanner to "Honk" in every system you pass through, and sell it when it's to your advantage.
    2) Illegal Missions and Cargo - Heat Sync + Silent Running and Boosting through the Mail-Slot are some of the things that you can use that usually get you past the scans so you can complete illegal missions. Just be sure to remove silent running, and drop your landing gear to slow down once you're through so you don't hit the back wall.
    3) For combat ships, consider B-Rated modules as they have the highest integrity and will stand up to a beating. You will just have to weigh those options!
    4) When you run out of other optional internals on a combat build, try fitting in some Hull and Module Reinforcement Packages.
    5) You don't HAVE to fill every module slot on a ship. Fewer modules equals less mass, less power draw, etc. Try to plan out what your play-style goal is for each ship (like you did with the multiple Kraits) and fill the ship accordingly. It's not a bad idea to plan for more than one role, but don't try and do everything all at once with a single ship loadout. You'll just frustrate yourself that you aren't doing anything well.
    6) Might be time to learn about Guardian Sites. The Grade 5 Guardian Frame Shift Booster will give you a flat 10ly bonus to your jump range.
    7) Ways to reduce power consumption - Choose less power hungry modules. Choose less overall modules. Turn off modules that you don't need at all times. Set power priorities in your right hand screen to turn off modules when needed.
    8) If you target something before firing a collector limpet, it will collect that one item as quickly as possible, then self destruct. If you DON'T target anything, the collector limpet will move a little slower, but will continue to gather items until one of the following happens:
8a) All collectable items have been collected. (Limpets will hang around waiting for more)
8b) Limpet runs into a solid object and is destroyed. (They are not smart)
8c) You move away from the limpet faster than it can follow and it exceeds the maximum control distance. (Limpet will explode)
8d) Maximum control timer expires. (Limpet's battery fails and limpet explodes)
    9) Occupied Escape Pods are cargo. They can be turned in to the Search and Rescue person at almost any station (Contacts Screen). Most of the rest of that will be Engineering Materials, and it doesn't matter what they are or are for.... You need them, and they don't take up space. (They are special inventory items that each have their own dedicated storage space that doesn't affect cargo.) There might also be other random cargo from the ship you destroyed.
    10) There are 3 basic groupings of ship-based engineering materials: Encoded Data, Manufactured, and Raw. These are then broken down into multiple sub-types and grades. These can also be used to synthesize (create on the fly) small equipment like limpets, minor single use upgrades to jump range and other things, even @mmuniti0n.
    11) To see the different materials and cargo around you, look to your left screen, third tab. Contacts. This list will let you see what's out there, but also allows you to set certain materials/cargo to ignore if you don't want to ever collect them. (Useful when mining, and can be reversed at any time.)
    12) Each time you collect an engineering material, it is actually 3 of that material. There are still a TON of materials you haven't discovered yet. You can see a list of every material you have, and how many of each on your right panel under inventory. It's spread out between the multiple display screens, and may not show items you've never encountered.
    13) Target and auto-scan every ship you see. Some of your engineering materials (Encoded Data) are collected that way. At 15:22 look in the top right corner of your screen. The blue text reads "Collected Encoded: Distorted Shield Cycle Recordings." That was you collecting Engineering Data that you will use for... something...
    14) Synthetic Fabrics & The Ship - Yes, it's a destroyed ship. And those fabrics are Cargo. (Anything in a canister is cargo.)
    15) Limpet Drones hanging around - See #8
    16) Try Encoded Emissions and Combat Aftermath sites for those Chemical Processors. Ultimately you may just have to fins a Material Trader for Manufactured Materials and trade for them. In the meantime, target High Grade Emission (HGE) sites and learn the "Frontier Flip Flop" to farm them. (Find a HGE site that you have 10 or more minues left to access. After collecting everything at the site, immediately log out to the menu. Log back in and jump into SuperCruise. Directly behind you will be an "Unknown Signal Source." Fly back to it and it will be that same HGE site, but will have all the materials available again. Rinse and Repeat until the timer runs out or you're full of that Grade 4 and 5 material.)
    17) Target different systems in different political states to spread out what you're collecting. Outbreak systems might have what you're looking for.
    17) To farm Resource Extraction Sites to best effect, follow the local police and let them start the fight and build up some aggro. You just have to hit an enemy (scan them to be sure they're illegal first, or you'll get flagged and the cops will attack you next) about 30 seconds or less before they pop. For bigger rewards, bring a kill warrant scanner.
    18) Be sure ALL your enemies are dead before bothering to collect materials. They hang around for at least 5 minutes, giving you time to get clear of most situations. Also, that may have been another Commander attacking you. They seemed too competent to be NPC.
    19) You may have lost your bounty rewards when you blew up, but any materials you collected are safe, so it's not a total loss.
    Doing great so far!
Hope to see you in the stars! o7

About material farming, the best way to do that is with material traders, which can be filtered for both on the galaxy map and Inara. There are three types of material traders: Encoded, Manufactured, and Raw. Encoded is for all digital materials like scans and downloaded data. Manufactured is for anything physically made by humans, like chemical processors. Raw is for...well, raw materials that you mine on planet surfaces, like iron and nickel. This is why it's important to pick up ALL materials you find, not just the ones you're looking for, because you can TRADE them for what you actually want.

About the security scans at stations, you can EASILY avoid those by just going into silent running. The heat meter on your HUD (opposite of the throttle meter) is effectively a STEALTH meter. The lower your heat, the harder it is for other ships to lock onto you. Silent running is a bit of an exception here because it actually makes your heat meter RISE, but that's just because your ship stopped venting your heat in order to hide it's thermal signature. So you start overheating if you have silent running on for too long, but during that time you are almost invisible to any ship that isn't RIGHT next to you.
This is also useful during combat, as there are certain engineer abilities that reduce your heat signature, making it harder for gimballed/turret weapons to get a lock without having to use chaff.

I'd experiment with builds and weapons about now. Lots of options. I mixture of laser and ballistics is the norm for effectiver distance fighting. Hull Reinforcement Packages are alos a go to. This is where the Engineer tree directs you to improve your modular options by directing you to an Engineer for each module type as you open them up. I'd go with one Module Reinforcement 4 or 5, then 3 or 4 Hull Reinforcement packages. If you're going Shielded then get some Shield Boosters in the Utility Section. Have a look at a few buils and see what you think. A pulse laser build can be very effective as well for a beginner. Lower power draw than Beams. When you have illegal cargo or illegal passengers, avoid scanning by switching to silent running. In silent running, you cannot auto-land and your shields are off. And your ship will overheat. So have some heat sinks at hand, and also do not enable silent running to early. Once on the pad, switch silent running off again.

    • @Foxyloxy.X

    • @KaiKrakow
      @KaiKrakow Год назад

@@Foxyloxy.X Silent running (you should assign a hotkey for it, I used a two button combo Shift+S so I don't accidentally activate it) will close all heat spreaders of the ship (you can actually see that in the external camera) and shuts down the shields which reduces your heat signature to a minimum. If you look above the fuel gauge, there's a noisy line: That's your heat signature. Using a heat sink does a similar thing. Targeting in ED is based on heat signatures: The lower the signature, the lower is the targeting range of other ships targeting you (it adds minus points to the other ships sensor range). You can also break weapon locks that way. Other ships have to come really close then to lock you into target. This means: no scanning of your cargo, reduced visibility on the radar, no target locks. Combining low heat and low emissions engineering with long range weapons and sensors can thus create you a sniper or stealth build of your ship.

    • @KaiKrakow
      @KaiKrakow Год назад

@@Foxyloxy.X Also, if you're running out of shields and your recharge rate from empty is slow, you can reboot the ship in the right hand side. It will shut down all ship systems and start a repair process, also repairing some modules at the cost of others. You will have no control over the ship for a few seconds but when the ship rebooted, shields are immediately up at 50% which means the force field around the ship re-establishes (if you lost your shields, you need at least 50% shield capacity for the shields to recover).

Outposts in Low Security systems often have only a single system police vehicle and there's no mail slot to ring, so smuggling is best done at outposts in those systems.

Also, about materials, check a station with a Material Trader (Manufactured kind of Material Trader). You can trade materials you have for other ones, and the trading system is a bit complicated but it's easier to see the trading table to understand it. In short, try to trade always on the same row, and pick every material dropped from destroyed ships (if it's not useful now, it will be later). Drops are mostly random (system states changes thing a bit, not only on signal sources you find), so if you're not having luck finding something, going to another system might help.
On another note on limpet usage, limpets have two behaviors: target and multi-target. If you have a valid limpet target and it's in range, limpet will be engaged as targeted, flying at maximum speed, grabbing the stuff, delivering to you, and then expiring. If you don't have a valid target or no target at all, it will engage in multi-target mode, flying at a low speed, collecting anything in range, bringing it to you, and looking for more stuff (or just follow you if there are no targets in range) until it expires (time limit or its destroyed by someone else).

6:13 no offence - but it's obvious that you haven't really got into ship builds. If you have a combat ship you want to have either shield-tank (shields take damage from opponents) or hull-tank (the damage from opponents goes to hull). Some ships are designed to be one of them, while some can be both (not at the same time, obviously).
Corvette is good hull tank, which means you should put a hull reinforcement package (or hrp for short), to maximize hull health. With build like yours it won't be a problem to destroy something smaller than you, but you can struggle with most of medium and all of large ships, as they will just kill you before you can kill them.
