You can tell the cast and crew understood this project was a mess and basically decided to just go all out and have a blast.

Not a good film, but I love it. Hammy, cheesy with awful CGI, but Jeremy chewing the scenery at every opportunity gives me life lol.

I saw this on DVD in 2003 long after i watched Lord of the Rings and was mortified by how bad it really was.
I've never watched this film since that first and only viewing and never will again.
    Cheers guys.

I hated this movie, but I actually really respect that they could produce an actual movie given all the issues an time restrictions. So given all the challenges, it's kinda impressive!

So glad the new one has alot of buzz behind it (Not seen it yet) this movie has some really awful parts but I love it so and it has MY DOCTOR (Tom Baker in it) so it is always a beloved guilty pleasure.

I went to grammar school. There was one single small group of friends in that entire school that played some sort of tabletop "role playing game" with dice. Everybody else, possibly in the entire city, had no idea what mysterious adventures they were having.

5:35 The voiceover was actually Bruce Payne, who also played Damodar.
I have always wanted to like this film ever since it was announced. The animated show from 1983 is still my favourite of them all and when Thora Birch was confirmed, I thought she would be playing 'Sheila' from the animated show. But sadly it was a whole different film put together. The only part I liked was seeing The Beholder, who was featured in one of the animated episodes. But apart from that, it was a very awkward final product.
I loved The Nostalgia Critic's review of this flick but this was equally a lot of fun to see you guys give your take on it and also the interesting back story to how it came to be.

    When Snails died, it was....awesome.
But it was too little, too late.
I didn't care for the movie overall, having watched it only due to a crush on Thora Birch at the time.
Seeing Tom Baker was cool, though.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with Iain on that one, nice review btw, props to you, but I'm with @BlackNerdComedy with that one. Like he once said it best, *"One person's trash is another man's treasure, this is my treasure right there."* I just don't CARE what the metacritics say. But, there is one thing I can give it credit for, is that this one, and the Lord of the Rings, as you mentioned, and perhaps Game of Thrones later is what in mine, and in everyone else's opinion, is what the Masters of the Universe Movie should've been like, especially with Profion, being all Skeletor like, and that's what MOTU fans wanted to see in Skeletor, and we all wanted to see him get his comeuppance from He-Man and company.

Not the best movie of all time. But MAN did they have a good time making it. Also, Jeremy Irons owns his villain role. You guys need to do the sequels next. Because "Wrath of the Dragon God" and whatever 3 was called are classic Sci-Fi Channel made-for-TV movies. They have so-so effects, so-so acting, and so-so scripts, but they have that indescribable "yeah...but they are so fun!" that Sci-Fi movies are famous for.

Is an IP trying for year to jump to other media, series, movies, books, games, etc, however a movie adaptation is not easy, not only have a big deep lore but also need a good budget and a pro team for visual effects. This one in particular underestimated those factors, not proper writing or proper vfx, in the end even with a good cast the foundation is flawed and doomed the whole thing.

I remember seeing this in the cinema when it came out, I was 13 and even then I just thought the entire film was written as if it was people playing D&D and this was what they imagined, due to the way people talked as I have met people who RP their charatcers that way as this was NOTHING like what I thought a fantasy world would be like.

I recently watched the Honour Among Thieves flick with Chris Pine. Even tho it didn’t really do anything wrong, I ended up not liking it all that much.
But good gravy from my arse, does it tower over this one. I feel bad for the director, because it sounds like a passion project that didn’t turn out how he wanted.
Still, why did he make Bruce Payne’s lips blue? Is his character suffering kidney failure?

i'm not a fan of D&D the board game, didn't grow up with it, but i'm not a conservative religious nutcase either.
as for this film? much like The Room and Troll 2, i pretty much enjoy it.
i know there's a recent D&D film this year that came out that is better than this film from the year 2000 (funny, this fantasy film came from New Line Cinema one year before LOTR premiered), but i enjoy this bad film nonetheless.
