Who had the best version of Holy Grail? Southern or Jackson State?
Coming back 6 years later to re-listen and I still gotta say Jackson State. Their arrangement was clearly written and executed better. Sending chills down my spine
SU alllllllday
@@enxsty this shit was trash. SU arrangement was close and powerful. JSU just didn’t give a damn arranging this 😂😂😂😂😂
SU you can actually hear the medley
They both sound great but I really felt the music move through me when JSU played it.
To thine own self be TRUE... Bama State Mello checking in... Su is pure d nasty,,, but them Jsu horns over across the way,,, sending that fire... I just give credit where it's due... Good job both bands... I luv the SWAC 💉 on to the next page to get a band crankin fix... Lol
Omfg! JSU have SLICK WAYS OF getting the crowd/viewers turnt up! #LuvDaBoom
I feel like Jackson put they’re heart and soul a lil more to it
I STILL live this battle! I can proudly say that this was the second Boombox that I attended and this battle was a DAMN GOOD ONE! I was closer to SU in the stands (almost right across from them) so I have to DEFINITELY give them props on their POWER and STYLE on this song. HOWEVER, JSU, who was in the far corner of the stadium, had SURROUND SOUND CLARITY with the horns and balance! I give the nod to JSU but SU did not disappoint. When the horn in SU blew that "off note" before the full band you could LITERALLY hear the WHOLE CROWD let out a collective groan. SU outblew them. JSU outplayed them. Winner:JSU
Year of the mellos. Both bands had phenomenal mello sections..
Why everybody saying su won? They messed the song up bad.
That moment when you come in early and everybody looks at you lol
Jackson clearly takes this. They just blew SU out of Louisiana especially with that ain't worried bout nun that shit was dangerous.
I Jus Love How You Can Tell How Much They Love What They Do. Both Band Are Really Good
I like JSU arrangement more but both versions are beast
I don't know why but I love that HBCU style band. Love the old ratchet battles that these bands have. I wish I could go down south and see a battle myself..
su win in my opinion. but jsu version is so damn funky. like week old socks😂😂
I started laughing when you said it lacked intensity b/c it was clearly intense from start to finish. That intro by JSU is written funny and the holy grail part makes any true musician shake their head.
Everyone and they mama know that SU has stupid power but everyone and they mama know that SU also has a tendency to over blow and miss notes and when they mess up they go back and try again and in this clip it clearly shows. And the SU faithful refuse to take the L......#Luvtheboom
So that mess up made the song not better then jsu lol
@@lildubcw34yeah you can’t mess up them still stay ur version was better
The more people say the Jukebox version doesn't sound like the song I realize folks haven't really listened to the song.
JSU never disappoints.
JSU won this one I mean the perfect power the perfect melody. I think their arrangement is perfect too.
Jackson State wins this one....arraignment on point.....
Jackson got this one
JSU sounded like their arrangement was for a military band
This might be the GOAT band video😂
I'm sure Jay-Z is very proud of JSU after hearing this 😌
so yall didn't hear that person blow early for su lol
They hear it they just don’t like to admit
two dangerous bands love em both
Say whatever you want, but JSU arrangements almost always have more musicality to them, 6 years of music education later and i'd still much rather listen to jsu version than southern's typical "wall of sound" arrangement.
And JSU is better cuz they werent spiting out loud sounds but both did a great job
OK LETS BE CLEAR!!!! now im from neither school, but being a musician you can clearly see that the camera was closer to su than jsu...both schools have the power, but as far as who smashed the song??? JSmfU!!!! Their version was crisp and clean...su clearly went for the loudness above their clarity, both times!!! There was no need for jsu to follow up on a replay because they smashed it the first time...SU had to come back again to clean it up and absolutely did not succeed...Big ups to JSU, the only band that can hold that corner down, and DID!!! JSU did det!!!!!
I'm feeling ya on thay
Yes sir
I can dig that bro...
Luv tha boom '95'
I didn’t think anyone else noticed where the camera man(or woman) was
Yeah Jsu got this one the thang about SU holy grail even though they play the whole arrangement its so damn long loud n boring to me. Jsu had a twist to it n it stood out loud too. But jsu is better
In my opinion, JSU had the better arrangement cause you couldn't even hear the melody when SU played it. All you heard was Whole and half notes...Lmao
dawg u trippen. go ahead and take that butt woopin lol
Thats su
JSU's arrangement has too much going on......
Honestly jsu got this one. Did you hear that sexy intro jsu brought in. C'mon guys u gotta admit. Let go of ur pride
But they were both good but i believe that JSU won by far.
SOUTHERN hands down or should I say AND DOWN!!! A lot of these comments are reaching, it's a rap song and nobody does it better than The Human Jukebox. SU was intense and full, while JSU was lackluster.
hands down JSU took this one
Both were great! Fun to watch. Wish I was there
exactly.. guess the Jukebox really feels threatened by the Boom..
southern's arrangement sounded to close to empire state of mind.. lol.. I like how they put the "Can You Feel It" drumroll before the crank part, that was like a warning that they're about to demolish the opposing band
I come back to this every so often just for both mellos sections 🥲 tears of joy
Su arrangement sounds like a remake of
Empire State!!!!
i usually go with jsu but they both just KILLED that how can you chose
JACKSON version is a beast!! SU version has no kind of dynamics. Just loud obnoxious cranking. Oh and jackson won the 5th too..
the tempo drag is killing both bands but both arrangements are fantastic
Su got baritones and mellos over jsu i think that's why they are louder but jsu has trumpets and trombones
Southern straight murdered JSU in this jukebox!!! R.I.P to JSU Holy grail arrangment!!!!!
Jamorley Kittrell not exactly...
LMFAO@ SU PLAYING THIS .... THEY COULD NEVER... LUV DA F'N BOOM !!!!!!!
Jsu was sending it from that corner tho
JSU BABY SONIC BOOM TOOK THIS ONE HANDS DWN
JSU intro was on point but the French horns over powering everybody SU killed it
Jsu.....arrangement
Y'all really need to get over band bias when it comes to picking a winner. JSU clearly won this hands down and I don't know how many times I have to say it...SU is playing too fast and the arrangement has no character...I listened to the clip of when JSU played holy grail against ASU and it was loud just really sloppy, but on this particular night against SU they cleaned it up and it sounds a lot better and you can't say SU is louder when every brass section is playing the same damn note
JSU ALL DAY!! HANDS DOWN! #LuvTheBoom
Bruh wtf is SU Playing
No contest....JSU All Day!!!
#LuvTheBoom
JSU......FLAWLESS!!!!!
Luv Da Boom..
I had to listen to the original a few times but I can hear this song in both arrangements. I think Su chose to keep it along the style of the original and not put too much feeling into it thats not in the original like Jsu did but Jsu has every right to make the song sound how they would like it to sound because its their arrangement. Im going with the Jukebox on this. I will say not just anybody can challenge the Booms version tho. Both kicking ass with power. That's unbiased as it can get.
Su holy grail was better
Jsu's funky lol I guess that's what made them seem country
SU WASNT EXPECTING JSU TO COME THIS HARD THAT WHY THEY WERE DOING THE MOST
How that dude who played early feelin 💀💀
I though they were about to play Can you feel it lmfao...I knew I wasn't the only one..
Jsu got serious horn holders
3:45 a crab missed a note im piss never heard that form su band all of su horns do go up at the same time looks bad
THAT was your first time hearin a missed note???
and the camera is clearer closer to Su tho... just like it is at the SWAC and we STILL cutting through..
SU went HAM when they turned to JSU
Best year for both bands
Everyone has an opinion but that doesn't mean it means a thing. what does HBCU mean to us as a race? It means power to me. Both bands represent power. I love SU and I like JSU. I'm pretty sure most of us on this post are black... yet and still we on a band post downgrading each other where is it getting you today? Lol, what happens when their is no more HBCU because the negativity? Uplift the power we have as a race. HBCU!!!!
Su has the power and key. JSU got this in every other aspect. This battle was historical and su got fucked up
BAHHA!! did yall hear that MELO come in early at 345.. it happens. haha
To me...JSU won and Ima tell yall why...Southern arrangement is good af but to me there not enough power in it...Their trumpets were on point and were powerful...Now their mellos! Ima mello player and I could tell that Southern mellos were tired and they sound out of tune...Their Baritones were good they just need to tell that one dude to stop hanging over...Trombones were good and Tubas were good...Overrall Good arrangement but needs more power and cleaniness to it...Now JSU arrangement is good af too and the reason why I pick JSU is because their sound more fuller, powerful and a lil clean, and also evil a lil lol...Trumpets were on point just a lil clean up and theyre straight...Mellos were good AF!!! Their was just one time when they sounded flat and tired and that was when they his the E flat or maybe it was the D (no homo) lol, Baritones were good af very powerful, Trombones were good af on that solo at the beginning, and Tubas were kinda the main problem they werent that powerful and it didnt bring much bass into the arrangement...JSU tubas as far as their size they are big but theyre not loud as Southerns tubas...Overrall JSU played a great arrangement, it was powerful and a lil clean...And to me...JSU won the battle
Hands down, I'm giving it to my boys at J-State. I fucking love that bottom part!!!
Jsu wins because of percussion
SU is louder, but JSU had the better arrangement and they also sound good with great volume too.
Their's also sound more like the sound....SU's version sounds like a messed up combination of Can you feel it and Empire State of Mind
Years later and JSU still has a better arrangement
I’m saying 😂
Man forget all the hater talk. Let's stick to the positive...I love to hear both bands, they never disappoint. Those mellos on both sides almost made me cry lol!
Jsu has a better arrangement..Southern just has more power
JSU won this battle hands down
Omg love it shout out tomy cymbals!!!!
Jsu!!!
it would have been more tight and crunk if everybody was rocking the same way but its all good though lol
J-State's arrangement is def better and is executed better. Southern's band now is undisciplined- from the director on down. Every man trying to out blow the next one, ,sloppy errors, etc..- can't tell what they are playing halt the time because the 'background' parts overpower the melody. Sad.
Hasan x no you stupid it's the exact opposite
I see everyone hated this arrangement but loves every other SU arrangement #SadAndPathetic
JSU ALLDAY!!!
I honestly don't know. I like both arrangements. Can't put my finger on a particular band.
but cleary jsu blowing hard tryna be loud.... they did that song no justice... S.U killed that song and reminded them again why they killed it..... and I have to agree, jsu is the only school to survive that corner lol..
Jsu need I say more. No comparison here!
3:45 SLaw no sauce
A mistake does not count as a loss. In fact, that's how anyone wins any battle in life! Great job both bands! JSU knows who the mother is though!
@ Cameron I agree a lot of su arrangements do sound alike.
Marched at SU and the mistake means we lost at this song but people forget the rest of the quarter was SU no doubt!
Hey H Nguyen, if SU plays baby notes and just loud ima give you two technically sounded music clips in which they are loud are te technical: Open Sesame and Beyond. This is for everyone else who have a problem with SU being just naturally loud. SU is 10 x's louder and technical than JSU and that's with their size
SU hands down!!
s-poo sounds a mess. JSU has the better version
I liked JSU's Arrangement a little better, but SU sounds soooooo full and powerful! Imagine SU playing JSU Arrangement!! OMGGGGGG Lol
Sergio Gomez It would sound nothing like if because they have terrible musicality.
Not that I agree, but that slowed down blues version comment had me laughing.
I'm giving this to SU number 1 clearly cuz they played the whole intro to the song. If you start singing the words with JSU u will notice its cut short. Somebody was right SU came a long way. I'm glad they changed the tubas but thisyear when they have a moment to shine them boys pushin it out. As far as who sharp or flat....look here the louder you try to play more than likely you gonna be sharp let's just get over it. I like SU's I just wish it actually ended like the song but SU got it tho
Can someone please tell me why JSU finessed this song by adding more notes? Why they wrote the song in another key since they don't have the range to play the song in its original key. And please can someone tell me where you found that last part JSU played in their song if not then please stop saying their arrangement is better than SU
I felt the same way in 2010 about SU playing Power. If you have to play the song twice, you must not have felt like you made your point the first time.
Ok, Im A SU Fan, but I would have to Give the Arrangement and the over all quality/displine to JSU.. By me being a Music Lover I can also Appreciate Great Qaulity when you here it! So thumbs Up to you on this JSU, But Power!!, SU All Day, and that's what the people like!, But as a Musician and former band member you Appreciate it(Music Quality) A little Bit more different then just your Normal Spectator.. Good Arragment JSU! Go #Jags
