I am amazed that people complain about what you spend on plants. Some spend more than that for a dinner and concert or game tickets. Which is entertainment for one night. These plants will give you beauty and joy for a whole season. Go for it Laura!!! Do what brings you and your family joy.
Agreed. Not to mention, she has to have business expenses to put on her taxes each year, otherwise she would be paying a crap load every tax season. Whenever they have something spendy I just think wow that'll be a great tax write-off LOL.
I’ve always figured if I love the channel and watch all the videos I’m helping them buy all the plants I can’t afford and building me my dream gardens at their house and I LOVE it!!!
Great video...for the people commenting on how much the costs is of your plants, this is a gardening channel folks...it would be quite boring if Laura came on and only planted a few plants because of cost....enjoy the flowers and don't stress it.
I don't think people stop to think this is a business, and plants are a business expense for them! I'm sure Laura doesn't expect everyone to go out and plant 26 supertunias!
They have a huge property to fill up. They make their living from doing this. It wouldn’t really work to do things on a scale like my yard. I have almost no yard. And I could not support myself doing videos of it.
Exactly. I just spent a fortune, to me, on a punnet of blueberries because I enjoy them. Blueberries are expensive here in Australia and especially now it's coming into winter. My reasoning was I don't drink or gamble or eat out so I'm quite comfortable buying something I enjoy. All that to say buy what you can afford and makes you happy. I don't know if we can buy supertunias here. I have seen some Proven Winners plants at Bunnings but not many.
@@loissaedder2214 Same here. I love fresh pears. No one around here sells them. I spent a fortune, to me, on 5' tall pear trees. Like you I don't do those other things and I don't like to shop. I will enjoy them and I totally agree with you. And I will have a huge blue berry crop if the birds don't get them.

Laura and Aaron, this is YOUR garden. Do what you want! I’m not a hedge kind of person, but i really liked your reasoning of winter interest and structure, plus you love it! We adore you all and want you to be happy and loving your garden, so forget the comments against it and do what you want!
I don’t care for structured hedges in my yard but who cares what they plant! My taste is looser but I don’t question what they do because everything they do is breathtaking!
I'd be more interested in finding a plant native to Oregon that may be a worthwhile replacement for boxwood. Or find a, evergreen, small-leaved plant in the trades that would be a good hedging material that has the look and performance of boxwood without blight or the maintenance needs of their pruning schedule.
I’m excited about the upcoming container videos! I don’t understand people and their complaints but laughed out loud over the hole in your shirt. It’s true, everyone spends money on what makes them happy. Thank you for all you do!

I 100% agree on flag poles! You explained it beautifully. We're not anti flag, just anti flag pole in the yard, lol. You're right, it looks better on the house.
LOL, Laura I love it when you give back some sass to those know it alls. You crack me up and I know you would love to say more but you keep it checked. You just keep doing what you love, it’s obviously working 🥰.
I think boxwood hedges in the cut flower garden area make sense and would be beautiful. The layout of that area feels like a more formal English garden and the hedges would add to that. Regardless, seeing how your face lit up as you talked about it is a perfect reason to do it.
Hi Laura and Aaron Just a suggestion for your mangave pot. In similar pots I have, I put the plant in a plastic pot that fits inside the concrete container so I can easily move it out for the change of seasons. It’s so easy and works really well. Love your channel 🪴🌻😊
Good morning! Another fun recap video. You plant what and how you want. Your home, your choice. People can plant what they want at their place. I don’t understand why people think it’s ok to tell others what to do. Your property is absolutely beautiful and I wish I could be your neighbor!!!
Laura and Aaron, we used your potting table video to make a table this year. It was fairly easy. We added two wheels, so we could pick it up with handles and move it easily. We used it in our garage to harden off plants, moving them outside each day on the table. We ended up adding two more wheels and thought that made it much easier to move, as the table is heavy. Since we have to turn a corner to get to the table to shade in our back yard, it was a little difficult moving it. In hindsight, we should have added two heavy duty wheels that pivot. We may change to the pivoting wheels next year. I grew enough seeds this year in my basement to completely cover a 4 x 10 table! Yea! Lots of plants for the garden this year. A great cost savings!
A huge thank you to you and Aaron for allowing yourselves to be vulnerable. 'Haters gotta hate' as the saying goes. If you weren't reinvesting your income into your garden then some would be whining about that, accusing you of being cheap or putting out low quality videos. Just keep being yourselves. I am a second year gardener and have learned so much from you, Laura. Thank you, thank you for being you.
Don’t ever feel the need to justify your decisions and choices to unkind remarks. Plant what YOU want. I look at my flowers as my entertainment, therapy and joy! I love your videos and look forward to seeing boxwoods in the cut flower garden!❤
We just had a major hail storm and it totally shredded all of our hostas, over 800!! A good friend said "Gardening is not for the faint of heart" So, so true.
I'm so sorry! ☹️ We don't often experience hail here in the Bay Area but the damage that was caused by one last year was so disheartening 😞 I can't imagine having them as a regular occurrence. May the damage be a thing of the past quickly! 🤞🏻😊
OMG...Belly Laugh for me...I have a hole in my shirt so I can buy more plants!!! love it!!!...I'm cut from the same cloth. I say, "I can eat in the winter"!...in the spring and summer I buy plants when I want!...Love you guys...thank you for being here with your wonderful information and sense of humor!...x
Laura you may not have words, but we sure do. It's your home, your purchases pay the growers, their employees, feed many people and bring you joy. People need to stop putting their money worries on others. Your purchases provide for probably hundreds of people who rely on people like you. Great recap. So, when do we find out about that challenge you and Aaron have?
Gardeners dont complain about prices of plants…we look for the best deal we can find…but I buy what I enjoy and I enjoy spending money on flowers or plants…Im wondering if those complaining are gardeners? Mayhaps trolls…and troll is the word…as they are pessimistic about everything. Love your videos.
I don't have a garden 'budget' either. You wouldn't believe how many people go for walks to include my garden. I even have one on the outside of my fence along the public path that leads to schools. I made it longer as I discovered that no one was wrecking it. A couple of kids have picked a few flowers but not enough to notice. I LOVE that high school boys walking home in groups talk to each other about the garden, too. They don't even know I'm there. So sweet. Covid restrictions brought the importance of this garden home to me. I never felt isolated. I could chat to all the people that came along about happy things.
I always try to get the most bang for my buck If I can get PW annuals from grocery stores a little cheaper, I do it. I save the really special choices for the nursery. Specific choices for caladiums especially and Surefire begonias! .
The new barn & horses, such a smart move to slow down & take your time and get a good plan. But, I can't wait to see it take shape. Not really going to miss the college planting this year, and understandably, you have so much going on.
You do you! I'd love to see the rose garden be wrapped in formal boxwood hedges! And, the priceless amount of joy, you two bring so many people, 26 plants or 5,000 plants, all good in my humble opinion. Plant seeds of kindness ❤
Laura, you are AMAZING!! I love your channel. You have taught me so much. Even though I’m in the south, I use so much of your information. I just wanted to say I’m so proud of you for putting your family 1st! Your children will only be small for such a short time. Enjoy them as I know you do. Also, plant what you want where you want!! I have a small yard, but I spend a lot of money on annuals, because I LOVE THEM AND ENJOY THEM. THANK YOU for sharing your life and your love for plants with us! I appreciate you and Aaron so much!!
I grew lots of annuals from seed this year, zone 9b by Tampa, and the flowers are amazing. I love having masses of flowers because they bring the butterflies!
Me too! I wonder how tall they’d want them to be? Would a “walled garden” look around the outside edges create too much shade? I put in some Green Tower boxwoods last year, and they are a gorgeous green all year long and grow to 7-9 feet x 2 feet wide.
I think it's a great idea too! A box wood hedge would help protect the young plants by acting as a wind break from the severe winds they always seem to get. It would also look like a formal English parterre/potager kitchen garden which would look stunning 😍
Love, Love, LOVE my new kneeling, garden pad! It truly IS the best kneeling pad I've ever had! It feels good not to have my ankles hanging off and getting mulch and rocks & or sticks, pressed into my skin when I get up from planting in my beds. THANK YOU, Laura, A-A-Ron and crew! ❤😊
In the Netherlands, I treat Tulips like a reverse Dahlia. After spring I cut them back and I dig up the bulbs. Clean them and let them dry and they go into the dark basement until I need them in October to be planted again. When I store the bulbs I grab my Dahlia tubers and get those started. After the Dahlias are done I cut back, dig them up and they go into storage in the basement and I grab the tulip bulbs to be planted. And the cycle goes on and on. At some point the tulip bulbs are in fact done but I've always learned to dig them up each year and the can go for multiple years.
This is your garden and you can do what you want, but I am SO over boxwoods! They get mites and disease and then they look SO bad! The boxwoods look good by the Hartley where your garden is more formal, but I love the relaxed, open feel of your south garden!
How dare anyone critique how much you spend on plants! Some people set themselves up as the arbiters of other peoples life. Ignore them! Love you, love your content, love your channel!
I agree going from 80 plants to 26 is a massive savings! Love your ability to bite your tongue when you get complaints….I guess they look at things as the half empty instead of half full. I think you did amazing with that. I probably wouldn’t have been as gracious which is why I wouldn’t be good at this as you are. Keep true to yourself!
Ya'll are so entertaining to watch! Love your videos & content. New editing style makes it even better! My favorite is when Laura said, "I did it because I wanted to!" It's also ok not to do something because you don't want to. Haters gonna hate. Fans will always fan. IMO, when making decisions - ask for expert opinions, do your own research, check your morals, then do whatever you like and never look back - next! Continue to keep it real - out here in plain sight! That's why GA is a hit! Kudos :D
From someone who runs heavy equipment for a living, don’t grab the pot with the pinchers. It will definitely smash it. Alternatively you can build a simple frame to go around it and use pallet forks to pick it up.
The repotting video of the big maple tree came at the perfect time last week because my husband got me a couple of massive, Jurassic-looking Boston Ferns for Mother’s Day last weekend and I knew I had the perfect tall, black, footed planters for them, but I had a couple of Heuchera in them that were loving life on our porch and had to be relocated from the big pots to some matching, smaller pots on the porch. I knew exactly what I had to do to depot and repot in those massive planters because of your video, Laura. Thank you! It actually made the job enjoyable for me and my husband. (No arguing over how to do it at all this time. 😂) I’m so happy with the result. Could not have worked out better. 👌🏼
Crazy coincidence , I was driving home to Chicago suburbs from Georgia. To help pass the time I listened to this episode in the car. About 45 min later I literally drive by Power Planter headquarters. Had never even noticed or heard of this company before.
Re: cost - many ppl spend thousands of dollars on vacations, eating out and clothes. you don't do that. do what you love and ignore the haters. i love what you all are doing and have learned so much by watching your channel. i super adore the content that you add with your mom, your sis and your kids. it is very calming to watch!
Ok-can I even say what a chuckle it gave me when you said you had a hole in your shirt under your arm🤣🤣🤣! And as everyone has mentioned, money goes into what you enjoy. I had horses for 25 years and every spare cent went into the care for them and into the barn. Do what you enjoy, and turn a deaf ear to the basement dwellers.
Plant only what you love and are excited about. Anything giving you problems, or you don't like it, move it or give it away. Neighbours/family are usually great at taking plants that don't work for you. Buy trees/perennials in the fall when they are discounted. Buy super petunias where you will only need 1 to fill a pot. Put a perennial in your pot to plant later in the ground and fill in with annuals. There are so many ways to stretch your dollar in gardening. Don't forget this is a business for Laura and Aaron. It's created to teach people how to garden and it definitely does that. My gardens have never looked better! I take all the tips I get from Garden Answer and apply them to my garden. Laura planting a lot is a business cost of doing business. It's like buying seed for a farmer.
I think a stone wall in the cut flower area would remind you of those British gardens you see and the walk up to the flower shed would be so dreamy with the flowers falling over the edge of the walls. All your space is amazing. It will be fun to see what you end up with. Be happy.
Although you can grow tulips from either bulbs or seeds, bulbs produce flowering plants faster. A tulip bulb produces a plant that will usually bloom the following year. Tulip seeds take only a few months to germinate, but it can be several years before the plant bears flowers. - according to the Google
It's probably also because most tulips varieties are really hybridised and so the flowers probably don't produce any good seed or maybe seed of the parent plants
I agree with you, Laura. Do it! The minute you mentioned boxwoods around the perimeters for winter interest I could picture how beautiful that would be. How soon can you start planting them?! 😊
I love that you and Aaron can laugh about ridiculous comments. The hole in your shirt discussion literally made me laugh out loud. Love your channel for many reasons, and besides learning so much from you, I love that you do you, and don't deviate. 😊
LOL, I am with you Laura, priorities are important and that is where the funds get spent. With a large area to plant, it is going to cost. I am so GLAD you are able to afford it for yourself and for us that are tagging along with you. (We are all are watching, liking, and supporting your projects) ❤❤❤❤
I remember the video that showed how Aaron built the greenhouse tables. The video was so well done that i firmly believed that I could handle the process. Sadly, i haven't but if i was inspired and confident enough, anyone would be! Its one of the things i love about GA videos...most of what they do is something that can be done on a smaller scale as well. It is always a learning experience to view GA videos and I often start my day with all the good feels 🤗☺️🌿🌻🍅🌼🌰🥔🌷🌱❤
Laura the trick to rid your hands from garlic is to wash your hands and while still wet rub your hands on stainless steel & rinse again (I do it on my kitchen basin, but also have a flat soap shaped piece that is handy). Repeat if still smelly... although it is seldom necessary to repeat. But it must be stainless steel, not aluminium or zinc.
I take so much inspiration from you and you’ve influenced the evolution of my garden so much - my little .2 acre lot. I’ve learned to downscale my plantings to the appropriate size for my space. I think people don’t take into account how much space you have to fill so you need 7 or 10 plants where I can only plant 1 to 3. The only thing you ever talk about that I don’t care about is the horses and I’m perhaps the only one happy that those projects are years away. Horses and large animals just aren’t my thing - but I’ll just ignore those videos whenever they come.
It would be cool to see two rows of tulips that match but have several varieties so you could run an experiment. Dead head one row and set the other row to seed and place the seeds in that row to see what method produces the most prolific naturalized tulips. 🌷 💚 love the videos!
Yes! Aaron is right. The slope is a perfect spot for things to breakdown and it will naturalize over time. You are creating a more level area over time and provide habitat to so many critters.
I remember about 5 years ago or so, you planted up a broken fountain in, what used to be, the back formal garden with hanging baskets. A structure like that could possibly look amazing at the center point of the cut flower garden. These weekly recaps are part of my Sunday ritual, love them!
I was planting some PW bubblegum and pinching off leggy stems. I stuck them down in potting soil in their empty pots and WOW they're rooted! More plants for me to plant out.
Can't get enough of your channel. We live in horse country and a word of warning - those with horses don't worry about the money. Our neighbor came over to see my plantings and I asked how the horses were. "Oh, another quarter million this year." LOL He currently has 8 horses and spent around $50,000 for vet service alone in 2023. I assume you'll be boarding so you'll need one full-time and one part-time worker. There's food, trailers, saddles, grooming equipment, etc. Horse shoes are very expensive - a checkup every few weeks is required and new shoes are frequent. Are they beautiful creatures? Absolutely, my granddaughter learned to ride but I'm glad I have a neighbor who is willing to throw money down the "horse pit".
Just plant the boxwoods around the cut flower garden! It would be so very lovely!!!! I love how Monty Don has boxwood borders around his garden beds!!!
I just want to be a person on the pro vote for boxwoods! Your encouragement to pull things that aren’t working and do the garden things that make you happy just for happiness sake has made all the difference in my garden. Trust your gut and garden intuition. You’ve got a wealth of knowledge and experience! I’m also quite sure the nay sayers will come around ❤
It will be interesting to see how your bulbs will fere! I have been told when I was in Holland that the bulbs sold are grown for 3 years and they take off the flowers to make the bulbs bigger. Bigger bulb=bigger better flowers. After flowering the bulb will set smaller side bulbs and that is those small things that in the future will flower. And they need the same amount of time to flower equally well. So that’s why you only see small foglige the year after. You can buy spieces bulbs those are the ones that are in nature but the flower much smaller and spread if you are lucky! That would be something for your pond area, south garden or dirtlands!
Biotone: I don't smell it any more...and I might add, I even like the smell now!!! Laura, you made me laugh with the hole in your shirt. You go girl! Haters will be haters! Enjoy your channel, it brings joy to many of us! THANK YOU!!!
Laura, I love the way you think. Spend YOUR money as you see fit! 😊 You know we'll keep watching. ps: I, too, have holes in my shirt. Who cares when my plants are looking so good!
I agree with others that a very low boxwood hedge in the cut flower garden would look great! Alternatively, relocating your rose garden in a formal, circular layout elsewhere- you have plenty of space for a formal rosegarden that can double for cut roses. Then you have more room for dahlias, lisianthus etc in the current cut flower garden 😊
You two are such class acts. The way you respond is always so respectfully direct and it’s beautiful to see. I have friends in Northern CA who live in the hills and they rent goats every year to keep their fire breaks clear. Super cute and super efficient. 😂 Might be a good side, relatively passive, gig for Bethany now that there are so many more residential tracks in your area. Thank you for the link to the hand truck!!! I’ve seen so many commenters who’ve asked about it over the years.
You could always terrace the hill at the back of the new property and plant a shade-loving garden since it’s north-facing. It doesn’t have to be a formal garden, either. Just plonk down some shade lovers and ground cover to help prevent erosion and it should be fine.
I am amazed that people complain about what you spend on plants. Some spend more than that for a dinner and concert or game tickets. Which is entertainment for one night. These plants will give you beauty and joy for a whole season. Go for it Laura!!! Do what brings you and your family joy.

Good grief! It's what they do for a living.

Why is anyone judging what you choose to plant? That's ridiculous. Calm down people.
Judging is usually spurred by jealousy.

May be hit by tornadoes (Oklahoma here)
lol 😂

I had a good laugh the moment Laura appeared as a boxwood😂😂😂
Yes! And hope she plants yhem
that was so cute i had to rewind again to see!

Laura, pay no attention to the noise. You're teaching thousands so many different ways to garden. The noise will always be there. We love your channel and appreciate you and Aaron.

As far as the garlic smell on your hands, rub them on stainless steel ( your faucet , for example ) and the smell will disappear!
Too early to get responses in the right place! I like using a soup spoon to get rid of the smell-nice curves and good surface area.
Spoons works great!
Yes, it works instantly using anything stainless steel.
They sell stainless steel bars

Good morning! Another fun recap video. You plant what and how you want. Your home, your choice. People can plant what they want at their place. I don’t understand why people think it’s ok to tell others what to do. Your property is absolutely beautiful and I wish I could be your neighbor!!!
I'd love to be a neighbor as well. What beautiful back view we'd have in our yards!
Nice!
Big caster wheels would be awesome on tables like that! Way to go!
Oh...that hurts my heart! I lost 4 and thought that was bad. Thankfully they'll regrow but it's still so sad. Sending you a virtual hug.
I'm so sorry! ☹️ We don't often experience hail here in the Bay Area but the damage that was caused by one last year was so disheartening 😞 I can't imagine having them as a regular occurrence.
May the damage be a thing of the past quickly! 🤞🏻😊
Do what makes you happy in your garden. You want boxwoods around the cut flower garden go for it!!!! ❤️🌺
I can’t believe people were complaining because you planted 26 plants, you do you Laura and forget the complainers.😊
I always try to get the most bang for my buck
If I can get PW annuals from grocery stores a little cheaper, I do it.
I spit my coffee out when I saw Laura as a boxwood 🤣
Good morning everyone! From Canada
Good morning from New Brunswick, Canada!
And from Southern BC, Canada!
PEI here 😊
Ontario!
The Canadian one 😀
Yes! Plant boxwoods around your cutting gardens. Garden rooms are beautiful. Your gardens provide so much pleasure. Thanks for your videos🩷
Love, love, love the idea of edging your cut flower garden with boxwoods! I hope you do it! It will transform an already beautiful space.
Hello from Nova Scotia Canada...Love watching yous grow your yard...
Yes the BEST kneeling pad! I got red, totally love! Thank you ❤️
I got my red pad on Thursday and love it!😎
Mine red too and ❤️❤️❤️ it!!
Yes! It is so big and cushy - what a treat! :)
Benjamin is a second grader! good for him!!! I still can't believe he will be a second grader next year!
Love edging every section in boxwoods..definition to areas! People are funny and not to be taken too seriously…it’s YOUR business!
As crazy as the world is getting I check in with Aaron and Laura's just to keep grounded. Thanks for the hope and normalcy of gardening.
They sent us a drill how nice of them, now there named after you! Who doesn’t love Laura
I love the new editing style with fun little things in each video. Laura as a hedge, the thinking swirl etc. such a fun add to already great videos.
Hose links are my life. I would be so excited to get one
People shouldn’t judge what you want to do. It’s your garden, your money, and it makes you happy.
Yes… plant the boxwoods around the cut flower quadrants… it would be so beautiful with the garden shed
I agree with Aaron. Do the boxwoods. It will make you happy and be beautiful. Goes with the overall style of your garden. Just do You!!!
I'm loving the kneeling pad too! And I know darn well Laura wouldn't sell a product she herself doesn't love - she's way too practical for that!
Here’s an idea for the hill, U could put up a retaining wall. It would look nice and it would level off the area back there!!😊
Laura it’s impossible to make everyone happy. I love everything you do! Love how neat and beautiful way you do everything! ❤❤❤❤
I think hedges around the cut flower garden will be beautiful. Do what makes you happy!
Stand your ground on no big trees by the cut flower area lol. Im so jealous of your full sun!
It is always a learning experience to view GA videos and I often start my day with all the good feels 🤗☺️🌿🌻🍅🌼🌰🥔🌷🌱❤
bubblegum!!! my very favorite. i'm so excited to follow their growth and fabulous blooms. a gurl can never have too many bubblegums!!
Good morning all have a safe and blessed day ❤️
It would be cool to see two rows of tulips that match but have several varieties so you could run an experiment. Dead head one row and set the other row to seed and place the seeds in that row to see what method produces the most prolific naturalized tulips. 🌷 💚 love the videos!
Love the way Hubs supports your ideas ! DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY. 🎉❤ he loves you.
Yes! Aaron is right. The slope is a perfect spot for things to breakdown and it will naturalize over time.
You are creating a more level area over time and provide habitat to so many critters.
I love you doing all you do it’s great to watch and helps me in my garden I have watched for a number of years 👍😂
I remember about 5 years ago or so, you planted up a broken fountain in, what used to be, the back formal garden with hanging baskets. A structure like that could possibly look amazing at the center point of the cut flower garden. These weekly recaps are part of my Sunday ritual, love them!
The Hoselink on the Trailer is DEFINITELY BALLER!!!!! 🤣
Love my kneeling pad! Just the best!!
The 23th!? (1:14) 😅
On another note, 80 to 26 plants (or whatever) IS a huge decrease and you're right to feel accomplished 😊.
Boxwood around the rose garden would be AWESOME!!! 🩷❤️💛💚
Will miss your Community College episode this year. It’s always been a favorite, but certainly understand why.
