Steve Smith on Sunday was the first in the media to FINALLY call out Shanahan and the Niners on how badly they handle injuries, how often guys are hurt under him and how the Niners put guys out there not 100%. I have said this for a few years especially when Shanahan put Purdy back into the 2022 NFC title game injured knowing he couldnt throw. He does give a damn about player health or saftey....but he did spend the entire 2022 training camp whining about his hat and how the NFL wouldnt let him wear it. Big question now is, do they give Purdy the huge contract many expected him to get when the season started? He has been awful the past few games. They caved and paid their two WR (not what they asked for though) and one is on IR, the other has battled injuries. Harbaugh has THREE playoff wins since 2013. I wrote this comment in February 2024 prior to the NFL draft. Now, nearing the end of his rookie season, Caleb Williams performed as I expected: Here is the comment: Williams is not the 2nd coming. Let's start with the fact that Lincoln Riley is not the "quarterback whisperer." Riley had some interesting schemes when he went to Oklahoma that worked. But he never taught the fundamentals of mechanics and leadership to any of his "award winning quarterbacks." I'll reveal I am an Oklahoma alum, but set that aside. Baker Mayfield was "fully formed" when Riley arrived. Riley didn't take him under his wing. Kyler Murray was in the same quarterback room as Mayfield and benefited from film study and schematics but he was an original talent on his own. And Jalen Hurts? His time at Alabama gave him the fundamentals to lead an offense. All he needed to do was improve his passing skills. We couldn't tell much about Williams in his freshman year because Riley was off interviewing with Southern Cal. We thought he was good, had good potential and we were looking at bright days ahead until Riley snuck out of town before the break of dawn. I watched every Southern Cal game that was available both years Williams was at So Cal. I didn't see any development in discipline in utilizing the pocket or in developing complex timing routes. What I saw was a quarterback that either didn't see his "reads," didn't like them, or wasn't confident to deliver the ball in tight windows. I saw a quarterback that was quick to pull the ball down and begin to scramble pell-mell without any rhyme or reason. The passing play suddenly became street ball where he was waving receivers open down the field or he was tucking and running instead of forcing the defense to defend against the pass. The thought went through my head that "this kid is going to get eaten up in the NFL" without the discipline to stay in the drive concept on a fresh set of downs. Whether he started at his own 20 or his opponents' 40 yard line, Williams was erratic and undisciplined. Without question he wasn't coached properly and I was not surprised to see the Trojans crater in 2023. Lincoln Riley, for all his bally-hoo, isn't a seasoned head coach. Bob Stoops, the man he replaced, was the CEO of the Sooners. He only won 191 games against 48 losses. Riley will never coach that many Division I games. We should be glad he was exposed as a fraud in college football. Had he been hired to coach an NFL team he would be roadkill. Every NFL team should be wary of Williams. He's a raw talent; the skills are there to develop but he definitely is a "project" to learn the pro game. I laughed my butt off when I heard he wanted a percentage of the Bears' ownership in his rookie contract. The kid has had too much money, too many slaps on the back and too many hours admiring himself in the mirror. Is he still teachable? Good question.

NFL coaching as a majority is very simplistic minded. These coaches don’t have any true understanding of the game, they are there because of who they know, not what they know. Most of these coaches are hired to replicate instead of novel and innovative.
Crapahan should be on the hot seat. A stacked team with 2 second place trophies will put any coach on the hot seat. But Harbaugh? Not his fault the his QB disappears in the post season but he has the King at RB so he should help out. AP needs one full year with a better OC and give AOC a true chance to start from the get go. Draft the top WR in the first round. The Sanders Circus will be exactly that: a circus.
This is exactly why I can't stand Florio, he just engages in rapid speculation all the time, often time with little basis in fact. And since NBC bought his platform, suddenly he has "credibility".
This is dumb, the Niners just went to the Superbowl last season and are having an off year with some crazy bad luck this season which includes: a holdout from their number 1 receiver who then got injured for the entire season, their rookie 1st round receiver missing games due to being shot in the offseason, their number 2 receiver missing time by somehow getting pneumonia in the middle of the season that maybe still affecting him, their OPOY starting RB missing the first third of the season and now probably the remainder of it, their starting CB missing games due to a tragic loss of his child and now their starting All Pro LT experiencing a similar loss and most likely missing time as well. All of this occurred along with other guys in and out of the lineup like their DPOY DE and with a first time defensive coordinator who's looking like he's not the right guy either but they're somehow still alive and in play for the division, unlikely as it is. I mean Shanahan's definitely got to improve upon some things but if ownership has any thought of moving on from him they've not learned anything from how they handled the Harbaugh situation. This is a bad year for the Niners but if they don't make the playoffs I could realistically see them regrouping and retooling in the offseason and back to dominant form next season, as long as Kyle Shanahan is still there.
The Bears owners and front office aren't smart enough to do this, they'll probably hire Kliff Kingsbury and have the same results they had with Eberflus.
Kyle is only on the hot seat because of the toxic Niner fan base. Their are a lot of great Niner fans but some forgot about the past. We have it great!!! One bad year with tumultuous injuries is no reason to be on hot seat.
This is one of the dumbest takes I’ve heard. In no world are the 9ers trading Kyle, like what? 3 straight NFC championships, 2 Super Bowl births? What is this guy talking about?
Kyle Shannan and Caleb Williams will win multiple superbowls; one day we will see multiple Caleb vs Mahomes SuperBowl match up like Bird and Magic in the 80s. The NFC unfortunately has no true perennial contenders and Shannan is 0-2 vs Reid I know he is itching to get his first win and what better way than to take on a really young potential star studded team with a true superstar in the making of a QB and a young solid defense as well as good pieces on the skill position. If I were Kyle I will just make sure the language in my contract gives me some kind of say so on the players we pick and also the hiring and firing of my coordinators and this guy will be going against Andy Reid in the superbowl in 2026. No lead is safe with Caleb and he has shown that in multiple games this season including the last three weeks of almost making a comeback down 21, 23 and even one time with 33 seconds left down 10. Buddy needs the right voice in his head and Houston we have a problem
Kyle Shanahan worst clock management in games and superbowls. He is coaching an allstar team cheating the cap which will hit in next couple years Just like payton leaving saints in cap hell.
"can you imagine Kyle Shanahan with Caleb Williams?" Shanahan is notoriously hard on his QBs....Caleb would be in the stands crying to his mom. Also, Shanahan doesn't develop QBs. I'd give it 2 months before Bears fans would be trying to fire Shanahan.
Shanahan is one of the softest coaches in the NFL. Shanahan threw a temper tantrum the entire 2022 preseason and training camp when the NFL wouldnt allow him to wear his custom hat. He finished that season getting destroyed in the NFC title game, putting injured Purdy back into the game knowing he couldnt throw. He doesnt care about player saftey and always puts guys out there injured and guys always are hurt. On Sunday on NFL Network, Steve Smith called out Shanny and the Niners for always getting their players hurt, playing them hurt. Should be interesting when Purdy and Jennings demand big contacts....because that is coming. This guy also let his WR trash talk all the time, they demand all this money, the team pays them and then neither show up after being paid. Samuel got paid after a fluke year, hasnt done anything since. Aiyuk got paid, looked out of shape and struggled this year before going on IR. The Niners will never win a SB with Shanahan and Lynch. They have a SB caliber team each year.
@Peppers19781978 Jennings already got his contract this offseason. They should just cut Purdy, he's 🗑️. What they should do is take their entire 2025 draft capital and trade it to get the 1st overall pick and get the strongest arm QB in the draft. Don't need to upgrade anything because Brock is the sole reason they are losing.
Well, the Harbaugh idea is just plain nuts. No matter who's calling the Ravens about Harbaugh, I don't think neither the club nor John would even bother to entertain this rather absurd train of thought. Shanahan on the other hand is not so far off the table. The Niners are going nowhere fast and an aging roster, bad injury luck and in part complacency have the fan base (as well as ownership) going rabid recently. If they just fade away without another losing season, questions that include Shanahans future with the franchise will certainly be asked. Shanahan is in his 8th year with the club, and went to 4 CG's and 2 SB's. While he did lose the SB's his overall success can't be ignored. But he also had 3 losing seasons (6-10 twice and 4-12 once) and a 4th is very likely. A fresh start could benefit the Niners as well as Shanahan - especially when somebody is offering draft capital for his services. So while one idea is just hot air the second one could actually hold some thruth.

Harbaugh got lucky landing Henry this season as nobody seems to remember his top 5 All-time worst coached games in the NFL last season........ Guy made so many blunders from scheme to gameplan to getting away from Lamar running, it was atrocious. Kyle Shanahan needs to be allowed to have a 104 man roster because the only reason that guy seems to lose games and superbowls is because he's down to 3rd stringers. I have never seen a coach lose more QBs and RB's to season ending injuries than him and its not even close. Give the man 12 extra roster spots for RBs and 5 extra spots for QBs and then Kyle will finally win a chip. He should probably focus on the 3rd stringers and practice squad players in August because those are the only guys he'll have playing by December.
They're such a well run organization. That would never happen. Crazy how they are the Cleveland Browns and overnight became a well run organization. I remember the horrible 90s in Cleveland.
@ yeah, I remember seeing a bunch of stuff on that!! But they are a phenomenal ran organization. They would never fire him specially, after he brought them a Super Bowl, or even talk about trading him once he’s ready to step away that’s when it’ll be time.

The ravens are not getting rid of John Harbaugh. I can tell you that right now lol
@ especially now that his brother is in the same conference. I think they are very content with where they’re both at.
