🤣🤣🤣 I most definitely work in sales but that's actually something I picked up from watching @Steven Strangles People His channel is fantastic and he is the absolute king of segues.
There it is 😄 thanks a lot Nico. This solo is criminally underrated in Adrian's catalogue of great guitar solos. Maybe my favourite and the harmonics give me goosebumps anytime I listen to it. When I started listening to Maiden, I was fond of Dave's playing and then I started playing and studying guitar and Adrian became an obvious favourite of mine. Dave is great, but Adrian got something more. When I list my favourite Maiden's solos, Adrian is holding the major part of it
That is what makes Adrian special for Iron Maiden and so fit for other projects, his blues/rock foundation and basis. Many thanks as usual Nico and carry on like this 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Dang dude, killer lesson. This is precisely what I was thinking when I asked for some Maiden lessons. Next best thing to a full metal course. This was so enlightening and makes Maidens music much more accessible because I’m my short time playing I have studied the blues quite a bit. Thank you so much man. And keep these kind of lessons coming my friend.
Man, thanks so much for the great feedback! It really helps a whole lot to know when I am on the right or wrong track with these videos. Glad to see this one is being so well received! Cheers 🤜🤛
This is exactly why I love Adrian's playing so much. He's the perfect fusion of my two passions - Metal and Blues. I don't think anyone other than Gary Moore could do it this well. For this particular solo, I actually prefer it over the Blues backing track. Either way, Adrian is awesome!
This channel is a hidden gem 💎. You do a great job teaching/instructing in a way beginners can learn. And because you love what you do you can tell you're authentic and down to earth. Keep it up and I wish you great success.
Enjoy brother! I saw them in Sofia and Athens a little over a month ago (8th and 9th Maiden gigs for me). The soloing is better than ever. Up the Irons!
It's amazing to see this kind of analysis. The thing you did previously with the solo from The Prisoner really made me notice this bluesy style on other maiden songs. And It's also fun to see the bluesy style on the Smith/Kotzen album, which really makes it noticeable. Congrats, Nicko, and keep on doing this amazing job. Cheers
Another incredible dissection of Adrian Smith's soloing. It really adds so much to the understanding of music to hear elements mixed between genres like this. The solo sounded to me like Billy Gibbons/ZZ Top meeting Dave Gilmour on Money (from DSotM). Solid analysis, my man. Really enjoyable. It's educational worth in a musical sense goes way beyond Heavy Metal or Iron Maiden - although I learn all my history from Steve Harris lyrics! 😅
Thanks Nico, never thought about it this way! Mindblowing to hear the exact solo played over 12 bar blues and hear how well it fits, especially with emphasizing each chord change. Gotta love Adrian
Cheers Nico, once again! One of my favourite songs and solos. So underrated. Lovely break down. You seem to be drawn to the same details in their music as I am. It's maybe the mediterranean blood in us. 😃🤘🏼 ps: you should sell this shirt you're wearing. I'd definitely buy one to support you!
Nico!!! I dunno how to message you direct but I had a moment of discovery and thought of this video. Adrian's solo in "Jerusalem" is purely based on a blues turnaround. Jerusalem (BD's chem wedding album) is a top fav song of mine. I was practicing the solo on my strat and playing it clean thru my old fender deluxe amp, and realized its roots are blues based. Played it a few more times in a blues fashion and timing, and yes, Adrian did it again!
This video is definitely too short😁 😉. You all probably know, but many Maiden solos if slowed down (or not) could easily be bluesy and I love that. I'm still intermediate guitar player, so have to jam over a slower backing tracks and many of the Maiden licks fit perfectly in there
Welp yesterday I found out my “best friend” stabbed me in the back after being all buddy buddy with my ex girlfriend for the last few days, but this video should cheer me up!
Hey Nico, great channel! Just a memory here... Maiden was coming to Winnipeg to support the Powerslave album. Twisted Sister opened I think. Anyway, parents didn’t let me go as I was in Grade 5 at the time. Remember seeing the free press the following day. Picture of Bruce standing in the middle of the eye on stage, headline was Maiden delivered epic performance. I was so pissed lol.
Fortunately we have Live After Death at least 😃 From what I heard from many people, Twisted Sister were incredible on that tour and Maiden really had to work to follow their set every night.
For songs, I think I just mention The Thrill Is Gone by BB King. I do mention a few players though: Albert King, Muddy Waters, Otish Rush, Billy Gibbons.
sir, i love your videos very much, but a request. can you do a guitar playthrough and an in-depth break down of the song Space Race, from Bruce's skunkworks album. that song feels super nostalgic for me, and i can't really describe in human words (probably because of i lack proficiency in English) the feelings i get from listening to that track. thank you 🙏
Hi. Greetings from Colombia. Love IM, great work, man. I'm curious about, if you had the chance, how would you construct a Setlist for a 2 hour Iron Maiden concert. Cheers.
I wouldn't go that far as there is still a whole lot I don't know but I try to bring attention to some of the things in their music I find particularly cool 🙂 Thanks for the kind words! Always hugely appreciated! 🤘
@@LicksOfTheBeast that's great, man. I'll be at the Toronto show as well. Hey, I interviewed Adrian when his book came out - check it out!!!! ruclips.net/video/M-n1WmZrar4/видео.html It would be great if we could catch up!
No, I think he just worked out a solo that he thought sounded good and fit the song. Dissecting it is a way for us to better understand how he developed his style, what is the musicality behind the licks and where some of his licks might come from.
Has David or Adrian ever contacted you online regarding thier music? They surf the web too, im sure they must have come across your utube chanell and shared it with each other, " hey look at this guy from Canada, he's picking our music apart " 😃 😀 😄 Adrian has a home in Canada, I'll bet he's come across your chanell 👩 from: Scranton, Pennsylvania
Nah... I'm sure they've seen enough good tribute bands in their time so I don't think they would care too much about what I'm doing here. But I hope they'd take it as a compliment 🙂
@@LicksOfTheBeastI've actually watched an Iron Maiden cover band with Nicko, Dave, their former bouncer Wally and Blaze at the Dagobert in Quebec Ciry after the X Factor show in Feb 96. I'll tell you the story in person when we hang out at some point!
Listening to you deconstruction, Nico, this seems pretty obvious and logical. The only thing I'm wondering is if Adrian was actually thinking about this while composing it or it all happened spontaneously and as second nature to him. Your videos are the best maiden stuff on here btw. Complimenti!
I think the approach was more natural and spontaneous based on his own "musical programming", even if the solo is clearly worked out to some degree. Thanks for the kind words, man!
The whole powerslave album is full of absolute gems when it comes to duel guitars and solos the duellists being one of the stand out ones.
Playing the solo on top of this blues rythmic was just insane!
One of the best instrumental & solo sections in Maiden history.
Along with the solo from wasted years
What a cracking version with the 12 bar blues!
My favourite of all time. From any band or artist, and I dont know why. But this is it for me.
I feel you my friend
2:53 “so the first thing some of you might have noticed”. Hilarious. Such a smooth pivot. You definitely work in sales
🤣🤣🤣 I most definitely work in sales but that's actually something I picked up from watching @Steven Strangles People

The duellist is Adrians best solo ever.. so elegant
Elegant is a great way to describe this one!
Like you said once you hear it… you cant unhear it … man that was so cool😂
Glad you enjoyed it! 😃
Ome of his best solos imo and he has a ton of the great solos.
I love bluesy style of Adrian Smith's solos. And this is a reason why I started to play guitar

Funny enough I really like how it works over the 12 bar blues too. Especially the last lick over the turnaround!
Oh wow that is very cool! Adrian always does such thoughtful and interesting solos. One of my top fave Adrian solos here. Awesome work as always ! 🤘
Great explainer. Thanks for another fascinating video
The Duellists is one of my favorite songs from Iron Maiden. Now we need the Murray's solo.
Definitely one of their most under-rated songs. The twin guitars, in fact that whole mid-section, to me, is Maiden at their best. Cracking video :D
Great video, this is one of Maiden´s best songs in my view, a hidden gem as I call it. Thanks for showing this, really interesting!
Adrian sounds like Eric Clapton and David Gilmore . Adrian plays real bluesy chops his Smith/Kotzen stuff is Awesome! He’s a really good singer
Underrated singer !
I liked this video before watching it
Killer song and solo!! great video Nico!! UP THE IRONS 🤘

I know very little of guitar playing but your analyses are so clear that I understand very well what you're saying.

Trank you for This view to the Musik theory and history. Your Videos are inspiring. I practice Guitar now with new Fun and diligently.
I listened each song of Powerslave Album when i went to my university in 2017, all that songs remind me that time
the duellists!!!!!! YEAHHH!!!!!!! one of maiden best songs! great instrumental in this one, plus bruce's voice
Great video! Adrian's bluesy parts are a big piece of the Maiden formula that works so well to my ears.

Sick and on point explanation on that blue scale
Ciao Nico, great performance!!! What do you think about the final solo of 22 Acacia Avenue? It does have a blues touch!
Thank you!
It does have bluesy licks for sure but the structure of the solo and the phrasing is more of a Blues based rock kinda thing.
You always explain things so clearly, very much so that even a drummer can understand. Haha! Many thanks!
