What is Wicked (2024) about?
Misunderstood because of her green skin, a young woman named Elphaba forges an unlikely but profound friendship with Glinda, a student with an unflinching desire for popularity. I am so, so, so ready for this first part. 🌈 I wish both parts were presented as an epic roadshow (with an intermission between), but those don't draw crowds, like they used to. This way, I think, will suit modern audiences.

When I first heard about this I had an eye roll. Same one I got when I heard Barbie was happening. Barbie is one of the best movies I've seen in ages, so perfectly well done, so I will give Wicked a chance. Production value is off the chain though and the acting is gorgeous, the sets, costumes.... I'm glad and sad to see the origin story of the Wicked Witch and to discover in this take, they were besties.
Also, Jeff Goldblum has really found his groove playing the lovable, eccentric villains.

The reason this story makes me so sad is Elphaba longed for all her life acceptance. And then she found friendship and even love. But the people around her still considered her a monster, even though she wasn’t one. Then they took away someone she truly wanted and she turned into a monster.
