This design is all about incorporating small dainty classic spring flowers with blooms that border on the ‘hunky-chunky’ or should I say LARGE flower - in this case big heavy king protea.
When we visited Mangrove Creek Farm, I saw these divine blooms growing and was interested to hear that although it is commonly referred to as ‘white king’ protea, its proper name is ‘Arctic Ice’ and was breed and patented to a grower here in NZ. Now it is a global hit in the flower world.
    Things to gather:
    - Small glass vase
    - 1 large white king protea
    - Several pieces each of flannel flower or Phylica, pittosporum, Teatree or manuka,
    - Pieris blooms
Thank you to Vania and Darryl at Mangrove Creek farm for your time is sharing what’s involved in growing these magnificent blooms! You can find Mangrove Creek at / mangrove-creek-flower-...

Also thankyou to New Zealand Bloom. They ship the blooms from here in NZ to a market near you.

I enjoyed the background info and tips about the King Protea. In your design the colour way is beautiful! I love the gum nuts in the bouquet.

I feel like starting another comment with “wow!” would be redundant, but this deserves it! Definitely doing a service to the community here, Astar, because I’ve certainly seen those proteas and thought their size was too daunting! And they can be very expensive! But using one like this is incredible! And as always, I LOVE green and white 💚🤍💚 And the information provided was enjoyable, and it’s both relaxing and invigorating to hear your enthusiasm! 💐

Hi Jesse, aren't they just so deliciously visually beautiful. To see them growing on mass was beyond words & breathtaking. Like you I've always seen them as massively oversized and difficult to work with, but tbh their stem is a stem to hold them up & if a cut is necessary, cut to fit. I'd like one in my garden, but they are just too big. They are a wee bit expensive, but they last weeks & as they fad away, they are still wonderful blooms to work with. We have filming again tomorrow and in their faded glory, they get to reign again. Warm regards Astar

Thank you Angel, I'm pleased you love the flower focused in this video. I had thoughts of growing one myself until I saw it growing, but its growth habits are a bit too much for my inner city garden. Very warm regards Astar

You're such a Natural, Astar! You took such a harsh pointy large bloom and softened it beautifully! I just want to tell you that I always enjoy listening to all the knowledge you share with us. So thanks so much for all the effort taken to do so. :)

It's all my pleasure. If I can inspire, then I'm making progress in my quest to bring the simple joys of life into some else's life. Flowers should be called 'memory keepers', because I don't know a soul who doesn't have a memory or remembrance of the sight, the feel or the fragrance they offer up. Warm regards Astar
