That's probably one of the nicest 125's I've seen in a while; with a nice pipe on it I'm sue it's sound a bit better too... Not that I'm in the market for a 125, but if I was...
Those who comment regarding to playing it safe with a Honda or Yamaha 125, that's fair enough but something like this Mondial will get lots of interested onlookers when you pull up at your local bike meet. It's good another manufacturer is putting their money into the 125 category.
Great review, just came across one of these on autotrader looking for my first bike to make the commute easier, was skeptical at first but its in contention now!
I've seen this close up at a local dealer and IMHO it is one of the best looking bikes around bar none. It has a lovely steam punk feel about it. It would be perfect with the 660cc engine rom my old Yamaha MT03 mk1 with about 50bhp.
Neat little bike for a non mainstream manufacturer to reenter the motorcycle scene! Its awesome that you got to introduce this to us. I like the R nine T esque design and the waffle brakes that can be had for breakfast
loving this bike ,the looks ,wow great bike to commute or just have some fun on ,and not forgetting yet another great bike review as always, keep them coming.
Seems quite nippy for a 125cc, always fun being able to use all the revs all the time at lower speeds. Great video's coming thick and fast lately - thank you for the informative entertainment
And how! :D nah but seriously, It all started with the '98 R1 and then the MV Agusta F4 added to the mix. Now its just red accessories on bikes :/ the MT-07 Moto Cage looks good....
Now THAT is a 125 I would actually consider buying. It looks quite peppy and fun. As you said, it looks like it's as easy as a mountain bike. I think the sound is fine, actually and the only thing I would change would be the mirrors, which really are too far out to filter.
A very tasty little hoglet. With a petrol gauge too, so it's _not_ expensive to fit. Impressive. Like the remote reservoirs on the dampers too. I'd be keen to see more of the instrument clusters in action if possible. Maybe just me...
Well, actually on ther website I can see that they make 250cc version as well. I think that makes a perfect city bike, which may go out of a town on weekends. It is a bit pricy though... Maybe not as Yamaha MT-125, which is ridiculously expensive as for 125cc, but still. I ride 2016 MT-03. This is really multi purpose bike. Great to get to my job in city center. Also good on a highway, 'cause it easly gets to 140km/h, which is v-max. in Poland. But I belive 250cc Mondial Hipster would meet my expectations as well. And that look...
I agree, I like the look and I also agree that a 400 cc would be the perfect size but the name is a deal killer. The HIPSTER. Holy crap, how do you come up with a more uncool name? I guess you could call it the HIPSTER DOOFUS, that would be worse.
Fun to see Mondial name being revived. It looks too youth oriented in style for me. I do think that people with big bikes should think about having a small one as well. They are such fun and if you have one in your garage I think you might be surprised how much you use it. I think around 250 cc is ideal.
Everyone in my school has got a Yamaha or Honda. I wanted something else, something not every 2nd person already drives. So I found Mondial and it's really unique! It looks so good, and the seating position brilliant. The noise is not a problem for me personally, I like it quiet and when i'm 18 years i'm gonna buy a bigger bike anyway. :D
hi Mr F.. I bought a couple of bikes off Steve first a yamaha yzf 125 while I was learning, only passed my full bike test last year 😊 and then went back to Steve when I passed and because I only had the 125 for such a short time he did me a right good deal, a straight swap for a kawasaki ER6n 2011 which I still have. For a first big bike it's not to bad at all... but as you know once you get the motorcycle bug you just want more bikes..I would love to own a few but alas the finances won't alow 😦shame ..but I am thinking of changing it this year because I my girlfriend loves going out for a spin ☺ so probably look for something more comfy for two ... you keep up the good work great videos 😊
In picking up bits for the Scrambler and the gf spots this wee bike on the shop floor. Genuinely is a nice looker and the build quality can’t be faulted. For £3k it’s a bargain for town riders and newbies. Nice video again fella 👍🏻
Thank you for this video. I'm just about to take my CBT and have been looking at lots of different possible first bikes, mutt, herald etc but just love the look of the Mondial and as I'm 20 minutes drive from the motorbike man in Watford I think you've tipped the balance in getting the Mondial from them. Just hope they let me take it for a test ride
Hello TMF Nice review on the 125. I like the fact you mix your bike range and size into your vlogs. It's an open club large or small one of my favourite bikes is the suzuki gw 250cc inazuma its a super little machine. keep it up.
What a lovely little bike! BTW TMF... hope you don't mind my pointing out the the name "Mondial" is pronounced Mon-dee-al. I guess that makes it sound a bit better (exotic?) ;)
Hi TMF. This is virtually the same style as the new Fantic 500 I mentioned recently that's being released in a couple of months. Wonder if they are related? Wonderful bike and it'll encourage youngsters into motorcycling. Why isn't Triumph making small bikes like this? Anyway....nice one!
+Steve Inskip Ah yes I remember you saying, maybe there is some relation. And I agree, great machines to get people into riding, I reckon if Triumph made a cool, well priced, great sounding,125 it'd fly off the forecourts (I'd have one!)...
Agree with that re Triumph, a 200cc and a 400cc would be nice. Get them in on the brand and they will move up the food chain, provided the bike is good of course, which I'm sure it would be if Triumph did it. BMW have release a 300cc bike for that very reason.
Seen one of these in the flesh and it is a really cool looking bike and i hope they make a bigger engine model of this and at some point i might take one of these out for a test ride
I really fancy a small capacity bike for 'local pottering', the Herald Scrambler is currently at the top of my list. This Mondial is certainly a nice looking bike, which I had no idea existed! Thanks for the video 'Little' TMF ;-)
Fully understand. After 28,000 miles on mine I am replacing it this week with a err. err. err. another GS TE. Sadly it will be in white since I don't like black and didn't want it in Austin Allegro brown, nor did I want the more off road focused Rallye. Hey Ho.
I actually plan on buying the Mondial for commuting to school and it has a fairly good price point compared to other bikes. In Germany you are allowed to ride a 125ccm Motorcycle if you're 16 years old. And I think this is at least from the looks the best looking Bike at 125ccm.
Hi TMF. My daughter is going to learn to ride as soon as she's 17 next year. Do you think this would be a good first bike for her? She loves cruisers, bobbers etc, much more than sport bikes. Great videos. Thanks. Gavin.
Yes this is a really cool machine, something a bit different that her pals definitely won't have and on top of that it rides really well - ideal I'd say.
I own one since this spring. I really fall in love with it. Rides perfectly, brakes are amazing, by the way: both brakes are linked together that's why it is so powerful and stable. Nice review and I fully agree with your comments. I was having a YZF-R125 2014 before this one and I do not regret my decision. The Yamaha was looking like a small replica of a proper racer, but this Mondial, has his own personality.
hi mate... loved the video.. apt and appropriate ...i am a PhD student in GLASGOW and am fascinated with the MONDIAL HPS125 ... I am interested to know regarding the services for this bike and reliability of the maintenance.. since you are the only one I know owning the Mondial I would be more than happy to receive a feedback regarding the bike ownership..looking forward for your reply..
looks cool, will you be testing the 250? A 125 would struggle pulling my fat carcass around and me thinks it would die on its arse after a week or two.
Might be a silly question? Sitting position or rather handlebar shape is my concern. Although position is already upright, is it possible/worth changing handlebar to have even better reach, less lean towards the tank, less sporty, more relaxed? Anyone tempted doing this?
Brilliant video TMF (as usual). What a find! What a coup. On that evidence, I want one, but may wait for the 250cc version. Looks like it's water cooled too. How cool is that bike?! 👍
+Rotherider Agreed! ...I think a 250 would be great as long as the Wright doesn't suffer too much (and I don't see why it should)...thanks for watching - TMF
Have you seen/ridden the PGM bike from Australia yet? Never heard of one until today. Plenty of youtube pages. The Mondial is very different 125 from what I grew up with in the late '60s! Rotax motor? Looks sharp.
What did you reckon of the tyres ? I felt as if they where nylon plastic ? Had them up here in Scotland for about a month or so best looking 125 out there in my eyes . It's the aprilia rs 125 engine well so the guy at my local dealer told me . I don't think the 250 will be coming out for a while well again so I was told .
+williamn01 Yes I recorded this a few weeks back...I didn't notice the tyres to be an issue at all, on a bike with this level of performance I don't think they are going to be a problem. And I agree, cracking looking little bikes aren't they...thanks for watching - TMF
One thing no one seems to mention with this bike is the exhaust being in the way. I sat on one today in Dundee and loved it... but my right ankle was on the exhaust and I found I couldn't really use the back brake without some very gymnastic footwork. Is it just me?? Otherwise I was hella impressed and it's a stunning looking bike. Mondial are mooting a twin 400 which I think I might wait for, or at least the interim 250cc'd HPS300.
TheMissendenFlyer yeah I know what you mean I have a supermoto so not really use to them looking pipes and yeah I think they all do i have a lextex exhasut on my 125cc does the job 😂
Mondial are steeped in history and have made some lovely bikes, more recently the Mondial Piega which used the motor out of the legendary Honda SP-1 (RC-51). Mondial are very similar to Bimota, they have suffered financial issues due to there super exclusive and highly expansive bikes,so maybe this little 125 can help them get going again and producing bikes that only the Italians can produce! The name Hipster is shit but I personally think it looks amazing for a 125.
I'm not sure how a company that failed when producing exclusive bikes can hope to compete with the Chinese. Not that it's the same company any more. Or is it Chinese? Must not comment unless whole video watched.....
Mike Think you may be on the money with this comment they buy the old marquis of old like the Enfield ,Benelli in all but name. TMF is being very naïve.
Looks great! Still, i am very curious as to build quality. It's made in China, will this thing be a rust bucket after 1 day of winter? My mountain bike has many cheap components on it and that was a rustbucket after 1 week of winter. Will you be buying one? If so , it'd make a great owners review series
Is this too small for me if im 6’1.5 (186 cm) tall, and around 85 kg (187 lbs). Also, i am not particulary looking for this bike, but instead the 300 (250cc)! Do you have any knowledge about the differences or Wether or not that is a better purchase
TheMissendenFlyer thank you! Also, i know its random, and i dont know if you know, but would a mt-03 fit me better? Was looking at these Two bikes and can’t decide
a nice little bike 😉 you should also try the ktm 690 duke... also a very light single zylinder bike. looking forward to seeing your next review. 👍 cheers Tom
Very nice starter bike indeed. A lot more to it than the run of the mill commuter 125s... Only downside not mentioned is that it doesn't look as if there is much - if any - provision for a pillion. And once you pass your test You Want to Take a Pillion! Don't you??
+Jeremy Shotts Thanks Jeremy....and good point (although personally I wouldn't want to ride with a pillion on a 125 I entirely get where you're coming from!). All the best- TMF
there I really really need your help. Do you know what the swing arm pivot bolt dimensions are? Mine has broken and I can't find a spare anywhere I really need one but parts are so hard to find. What other swing arm bolt can i use???
They are beautiful bikes but not something you would start out biking on mainly because of the price but also because you wouldn't want to scratch such a beautiful thing haha.
Does look good and although seems a bargain compared to its Japanese competition it is actually expensive compared to other Chinese manufacturers - yes let's not kid anyone this is a Chinese bike masquerading as a historic established brand. Benelli use the same tactic with their bikes the same as Mike Ashley at Sports Direct buys defunct sports brands, manufactures inferior products and tries to add credibility by sticking on a badge. To be fair being a Chinese product doesn't necessarily make it bad, there are a lot of top quality Chinese built products on the market, in our homes and in our pockets. But, I believe it should be made clear that this is an expensive Chinese bike that is as yet unproven. it is not a cheap European bike nor is it a legitimate Japanese alternative until it has proven it can last through a couple of winters, still run and stay in one piece - and still look good 😉
There seems to be a lot of snobbery over where a bike is manufactured so correct me if I'm wrong but aren't small Japanese bikes such as Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki made in China under licence.
Talking about cool italian bikes , check out benelli 502C, italian style and quality build ( looks like a ducati diavel) but has a chinese price tag. Review please 😁
Agreed! It's good to see some of these manufacturers having a crack at the 125cc market, those riders are the future of the motorcycle industry after all....
That's probably one of the nicest 125's I've seen in a while; with a nice pipe on it I'm sue it's sound a bit better too... Not that I'm in the market for a 125, but if I was...
+Cloggsy Goodwin Yeah, my thoughts exactly...

It's a rebadged Aprilia, so should be alright.

It is good looking... I wish it was "bigger". 400cc matches better to this...

wasn't sure if I liked the look but then I heard the price and well it looks better now
+CookieGuy97 Exactly!
1 year later, likely the hipster looks much less hip now. Perhaps he's a genuine rat by now..
Love it. Something a bit different is always welcome in my opinion. hipsters around the UK will be swooning over it come summer.
+Rob S Yeah I agree, wouldn't say no to one myself I must say! What could be more useful for getting around a busy city....
TheMissendenFlyer why not.... I think the main man RJ rides a Grom/125 for this very reason

Thinking about buying it! One question, I see it has a 2 person load. Do you think its easy for the second person to ride on? Thanks
+Dan Fidelio Looking at the seat I'd say no! Great little bike though....
+Philip Roberts 100% agree Philip, thanks for watching and for stopping by - All the best, TMF
Very interesting. Bimota: now there's a blast from the past.
+TobiasProtector Where have you heard it's made in China? The dealer told me it's made in the Aprilia factory in Italy??
Of all the motorcycles you own and test ride which would you choose if you had to own just one.
+Nicholas Crocker My GS....
Nice review Sir
Nowhere on their website does it use the word "Hipster"
Probably just a nickname due to the "HPS"125 possibly?
Hmm, good point....maybe they changed the website since I recorded this. Regardless of the name, a cracking little bike...
TheMissendenFlyer
Yes a great looking bike. Saw they also do a 300 now too.
As a 17 year old just passed their a1. Would you recommend this bike (mondial hipster 125) or the mutt mongrel 125? Cheers
They are both great fun - the Mondial seems better finished but comes down to which you like the look of I reckon.....
What a great looking bike!
+oofafoo Agreed!
Good Evening TMF a nice bike Thank you for the review and video Take Care.
+Wayne Compton Thank you Wayne...
Hi where does the rear tail light cable plug into? I'm trying to remove it but can't follow it up past the engine? Can you show me
No idea I’m afraid
Hi, would love to see if you could get hold of a Bulit Spirit 125 or Hanway Cafe Racer or Scrambler...!
You never know - stay tuned!
Love the look.
Me too - cool bike
Is this too small for me if im 6’1.5 (186 cm) tall, and around 85 kg (187 lbs). Also, i am not particulary looking for this bike, but instead the 300 (250cc)! Do you have any knowledge about the differences or Wether or not that is a better purchase
Yes - I reckon so - sorry
TheMissendenFlyer thank you! Also, i know its random, and i dont know if you know, but would a mt-03 fit me better? Was looking at these Two bikes and can’t decide
That's a really really cool looking bike
I agree!
What a cool looking bike!
+PistolPete63 That's what I thought...
I would buy that over a Honda Grom for sure!
Hi. Are you going to be reviewing the 2021 version?
No plans too but never say never
Looks pretty smart! 👍🏻
I think so....
a nice little bike 😉
you should also try the ktm 690 duke... also a very light single zylinder bike.
looking forward to seeing your next review. 👍
cheers Tom
+Thomas Geser Yes the 690 is very much on my radar - stay tuned for a review on that in the next few weeks. All the best as ever - TMF
Same engine as Derbi Terra. Good, reliable unit.
Yes a well proven unit I understand - thanks for watching - TMF
What is the speed like on this bike compared to other 125's? Im considering one of these as my new bike when i turn 17
Fine - very comparable, a great choice for a first bike....something different too...enjoy!
Probably max out a genuine 70mph
Very nice starter bike indeed. A lot more to it than the run of the mill commuter 125s...
Only downside not mentioned is that it doesn't look as if there is much - if any - provision for a pillion.
And once you pass your test You Want to Take a Pillion! Don't you??
+Jeremy Shotts Thanks Jeremy....and good point (although personally I wouldn't want to ride with a pillion on a 125 I entirely get where you're coming from!). All the best- TMF
what engine does it have? Is it reliable? what about parts availability?
It's a Piaggio engine I believe, same as used in one of their scooters - proven reliability...
there I really really need your help. Do you know what the swing arm pivot bolt dimensions are? Mine has broken and I can't find a spare anywhere I really need one but parts are so hard to find. What other swing arm bolt can i use???
Sorry - no idea!
@@TheMissendenFlyer thanks thanks replying. Is there no way you could find out for me I'm so stuck...
No, I have no special contacts any nore than you do - sorry!....
They are beautiful bikes but not something you would start out biking on mainly because of the price but also because you wouldn't want to scratch such a beautiful thing haha.
I think you'd be the envy of your friends with one of these puppies...
Im buying this bike next week (i live in Germany) but i havent seen any buyable "upgrades"
+James Bowie Nice one James, enjoy...
Is it liquid cooled.
LOL I already watched this 😂🏍👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Is the HPS250 available yet in the UK?
Not that I'm aware of....
I'm 6'3 would it fit me well? That's my main concern :(
No it wouldn't - physically its a very small machine...you could ride it, but you'd look odd...
u mention about watford? is there any dealership there that they have this on their showroom?
+suedehead416 Yep, The Motorbike Man...
But, I believe it should be made clear that this is an expensive Chinese bike that is as yet unproven. it is not a cheap European bike nor is it a legitimate Japanese alternative until it has proven it can last through a couple of winters, still run and stay in one piece - and still look good 😉
+Quest For Fire Thanks for watching and for stopping by, all the best- TMF
TheMissendenFlyer yours are some ofthe best put together vids mate I always enjoy watching... keep 'em coming 👍
Very kind of you to say so - thanks!
Like the Mutt bikes. Basically Sinnis but had a paint job, a couple of things changed in England and £2000 added to the price....
Harry Limes isn't mutt = HMC heralds from china? Either way same same but different
this vs the mutt which one should i buy?
Whichever you like the looks of most....
There seems to be a lot of snobbery over where a bike is manufactured so correct me if I'm wrong but aren't small Japanese bikes such as Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki made in China under licence.
+James Haydon I'm not sure, certainly places like Thailand and India and I personally see no issue with that as long as the QC is there...
I would prob choose a Yamaha due to resale value and parts availability. No doubting this looks different tho
+Jay B Fair enough....
Talking about cool italian bikes , check out benelli 502C, italian style and quality build ( looks like a ducati diavel) but has a chinese price tag. Review please 😁
What a cracking looking machine.
Agreed! It's good to see some of these manufacturers having a crack at the 125cc market, those riders are the future of the motorcycle industry after all....
Interesting little lightweight machine .
+Hurley flyer Yeah it sure is!
