Hi Judith, Thank you for photographing my twin brother and I at one of the Hazleton Public Schools in 1992. We both have fond memories of the experience and feel honored to be in the Portraits of the Hazleton Public Schools series. Sincerely, Joel Ewer
I took an intro to photography and darkroom techniques class taught by Judy at Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA in the late 80s. She was very demanding, but she taught me how to look at a subject before even looking through the viewfinder. It was one of those classes where I looked forward to the next assignment and felt sadness when the semester came to an end. I remember several late nights/early mornings in the darkroom, developing film and making prints using her guidelines as one of the best classes in my undergraduate studies. Although I have crossed over to the digital side, the lessons she taught continue to influence my work today. She said in an article I read that her teaching career was an "utter failure". I hope someday to convince her otherwise.
I just discovered her and her work and through Gregory Halpern and as a photographer she represents everything I believe photography and a photographer should be. Exceptional human being and and exceptional work. Now I am obsessed.
